Shows like Be Melodramatic

Just finished Be Melodramatic and I gotta say i haven't seen that type of writing and comedy in any show. It was weird but funny af. The whole final episode broke the 4th wall, the wall was not even there. Is there any other shows with that kind of writing? I am not asking similar in plot but in writing. TIA

Something like into the rong/memorials but not like be melodramatic?

I asked for recommendations of nice lighthearted dramas, and someone said Into the ring. I absolutely loved it and started looking for similar ones, and found be melodramatic. I get that the energy is similar, but be melodramatic is more on the crude, not that happy, more bitter end, It’s like more β€œreal” idk if I’m explaining myself. Right now I don’t want shows that real, so please recommend shows like into the ring.

Be melodramatic

Years after it aired, this scene still makes me cry. I think everyone who watched it probably will say the same thing. It has so many emotions that even the viewers want to go inside the screen, hug, and thank her. Acknowledging what you genuinely feel is difficult, especially when dealing with grief. Thank you, Eunjung.

I just finished rewatching Be Melodramatic and I forgot how much I loved Lee Eun Jung and Sangsu’s relationship. Can you guys recommend a show with a similar feel that they gave off? Not to be melodramatic but can someone please tell me to shut up?

I'm only 14. I don't hate being a boy and I never had any of the reactions to my reflection or being told to do boy-ish things. Closest thing to smaller me wanting to be a girl was a mild obsession over barbie before my mother told me that was only for girls. I have a bloody mountain of shit telling me I'm cis looking for attention but for some reason I am finding it hard to accept that. So I'm assuming it'd help to have people who do know who the hell they are telling me it

I don’t mean to be melodramatic but this new vacuum has drastically improved my life! I clean houses and it’s SO satisfying being able to get things cleaned up without breaking my back trying to sweep.

Off a recommendation on here I got an oreck xl used. It was basically new and only $70. It’s so awesome I can carry it over my shoulder and the convenience of having all those brush attachments right on the machine is freaking great. Just great.

Now my questions for you:

  1. Those of you that sling your vacuum across a shoulder: any recs on making it more comfortable? Like a better strap maybe? I feel like my side starts to get sore pretty quickly.

  2. Is there some type of brush attachment that would be good for getting gunk off the edges of hardwood? I have a client with dogs and so much hair gets gunked up around the edges and corners. I’m thinking something that softly scrapes since my current corner brush doesn’t do much.

  3. Speaking of that, is there a good attachment for hitting baseboards?

Thank you!!

The Weekly Binge: Be Melodramatic - Episodes 1 - 3

Welcome to the first Weekly Binge discussion of Be Melodramatic episodes 1 - 3. On Sunday we will discuss episodes 4 - 5.

It has been 1 year, 4 months, and 14 days since this drama completed it's run and time has wooshed by as I waited for this moment to rewatch and discuss with my binge crew. It may be a little bit melodramatic but this drama really suits me. I know that it wont suit all of our tastes but nonetheless I am excited at the least you can accept this wonderful earworm as consolation.

Full discussion schedule:

Date: Episodes: Notes:
Thursday February 11th 1 - 3
Sunday February 14th 4 - 5

Weekly Binge Guidelines:

Anyone is welcome to join the Weekly Binge.

Within the frame of the three episodes, you may discuss anything you can think of. I am not really into slow dramas but strangely enough I liked "when the weather is fine" , I then went on and watched "one spring night" and "something in the rain". I didn't stop there , I kept on searching for similar vibe dramas and ended up with "eun joo's diary" and "be melodramatic ". I love all these dramas and may have watched more than enough .I want to experience what I felt watching these dramas again . The feeling of longing , melancholy and hope . Please suggest me something along the same lines . Ps I have watched almost all the popular dramas already and struggling to find good underrated gems .

Looking for Kdramas with similar romance tropes in Be Melodramatic

I am ending Be Melodramatic soon. πŸ₯² I've been trying to pace myself while watching this because it felt so healing and I almost don't want it to end. I would like to watch something similar but takes a deeper dive on different romantic relationships of the three main leads. I'm looking for:

  • trope #1 : something like Jinjoo - kdrama that processes a break up, figuring out what went wrong, healthy closure, etc.
  • trope # 2 : something like Hanjoo - noona romance with a soft, soft dongsaeng
  • trope # 3 : something like Eunjung - romance where the gf/bf is sick

Thanks in advance~

Am I just being melodramatic to feel like you shouldn't tell someone how they "should" be coping with their mental health/grief/trauma unless you've been through the same thing?

The thing is I would say half the time when I'm having a mental health crisis it's probably quite easy for other people to see that I'm struggling. I can be quite vocal about how I'm feeling as sometimes I feel like it's better to be brutally honest about how you're feeling rather than to not say anything. But the other half of the time when I'm having a mental health crisis tbh it kind of scares me in a way because what happens is that I bottle all my struggles and emotions up then I'll have a breakdown or a fit of emotional burnout/anger but most of the time this happens when I'm in my bedroom with the door shut so obviously no one else is going to know that I've had a breakdown because it's happened behind closed doors. I wouldn't say I'm naturally an irritable or easily angered person, but when someone bottles up their emotions, everyone will explode with a different emotion, for me it's usually sadness and anger. Anger for having a breakdown because it makes me feel weak and sad because it feels like this is a vicious cycle because I bottle my emotions up, then I get more and more tetchy, then I explode, then I feel like I've fucked up because I clearly can't control my emotions very well, then I feel guilty that other people can control their emotions better than I can

I really liked this drama and I'm looking for something similar that is also pretty light and easy to watch, has good dialogue, has a good amount of humor in it, mature, not too serious but still tackles relevant/reflective topics every so now and again.

PS. please don't suggest Because This Is My First Life (was sadly disappointed by the latter half of this show :( and it really give me the same vibe as Be Melodramatic as much as some reviews said it would)

r/KDRAMA Banner 2020 Update Pt. 2 - Be Melodramatic About The Dramas You Want To See On The New Line Up

Hi everyone,

Now that we have discussed your thoughts about the current banner, it’s time to talk about the new dramas you would like to see on the banner. Although u/AlohaAlex took my request for an all Lee Min Ho banner seriously and not one of you noticed fulfilled my wildest dreams and nightmares so I no longer need it updated <333

There is no set criteria for a drama to feature on the banner - it could be featured because it was monumental in r/KDRAMA’s 10 year history, it may be a fan favourite, it may be a controversial choice, it may be a mod favourite, it may be one we love just for this moment in time, it may be representative of a genre, theme or type of drama, or any other reason.

There are a few rules though - all comments that break any of these rules will be removed without notice and not be considered

>>>>SO PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE COMMENTING>>>>

  1. You may only submit one (1) drama. Think before submitting, if it is a drama that many people will want to submit, ask yourself, β€œis there something else I want to give a chance to?”
  2. Each drama may only be submitted once. Before submitting, check if someone has already submitted that drama (on PC use a CNTRL-F search). If the drama has already been submitted give it an upvote and add your reasoning as a reply to the person who submitted it first.
  3. Use the drama's full English title, not an acronym. If the drama has multiple titles you may list them all.
  4. Only Korean dramas may be submitted. Drama Specials, Web Dramas, Mini Series and Long Form dramas are all welcome to be suggested.
  5. You must give a reason why you think it deserves a place on the banner. Convince us, well thought out reasoning may trump votes.
  6. All top level comments must be submissions. If you have any other comments or questions, reply to the stickied comment, a member of the mod team will answer if necessary.

Submissions will close on Wednesday morning KST (the post will be locked), and Voting will close on Wednesday evening KST. Note that contest mode will be enabled to mask scores so sorting the thread by new/old/best etc will be randomised every time you refresh the feed.

If you're stressed with life right now, go watch Be Melodramatic!

I'm a big Reply 1988 fan, but I watched this without knowing Jung Bong would be here!

Such as an easy watch and sooo heartwarming. The humor is so subtle and meta, definitely my kind of comedy. I love every character, everyone's stories, and everyone's flaws.. just like the different characters in our own lives -- we love them despite, we love them just because. I found myself crying and laughing with them. I feel like I became friends with them as well, I'll miss this bunch.

This is probably my new favorite kdrama, if that means the kdrama that I can watch over and over again, and still feel all the things I should. Go check it out if you need some healing!

Be Melodramatic should be more popular

After finishing Reply 1988, I was hankering for another slow burn drama focusing on friendships and relationships. Be Melodramatic was that for me. I'm only halfway through and at this point I love this show so much that I would put it at first place in my kdrama ranking list right next to Reply 1988.

I know it's not that popular but hear me out. The first 2 episodes of the show is definitely slower than most because they're still establishing each character and making you fall in love with them. Things really start to happen 3rd episode onwards which breaks them out of their daily routine. They made me feel the real feelings of being a tired 30 year old yet still trying to make it in life.

Each character is so well written and so true to life that I find myself relating to every one of their experiences. But what made me love this drama so much is how meta it is. >! Throughout the entire show, they talked about creating a show that is literally the show we're watching. Even going so far to say that the first 2 episodes would be a bit draggy and the 3rd episode has an inciting incident. !< Which to me is absolute genius.

The humour isn't outright in your face, but more situational and subtly funny. And the emotional scenes really hit you like a brick and you start to cry for no reason at all other than feeling so touched by the love these characters display.

So, if you're someone who wants to watch a drama about 3 30 year old working women struggling in life, or a drama full of friendships and relationships that are true to life, please consider watching this. It needs more attention!

Female character of Jeon Yeo Been in Be Melodramatic

The character of Lee Eun Jung was my favorite among the three female chatacters in the series Be Melodramatic. Just thinking about her experience gives me pain until now. One of the few characters that I wish will have a happy life even after the drama. After losing the one she loves, she also lost her appetite in life. I am just so happy with her new found friend in the person of the angry director. I wish they will have a separate drama bec they have a weird but good chemistry. Plus I am dying to know what happens in their travel.

The ending of Be Melodramatic just gives the best of endings with its simple yet empowering message.

Also, Jeon Yeo Been has got to be one of the most beautiful faces I've seen.

Dramas like Be Melodramatic?

Be Melodramatic is so quirky and modern. Even though it discusses some dark themes at times, it’s overall feel-good and fluffy. It feels like a sitcom at times, super weird at other times, and I really loved it.

The closest drama to Be Melodramatic that I have watched is Because This is My First Life, in the sense of being modern and feel-good.

I am looking for more shows like these two and I am having trouble getting into the usual, actually melodramatic dramas because of these two.xD

Something to add to holy trinity of Age of Youth, Because this is my First Life and Be Melodramatic?

These are three of my favourite ever dramas and whenever I see someone ask for a recommendation for something similar to one of them I get really excited I will be able to add something that I loved as much as these to the mix. HOWEVER if someone asks for recommendations similar to one of them, the other two are always recommended making an unbreakable triangle of goodness of things I have already seen!

Any recommendations for someone who absolutely loved all three of these dramas?

Some other dramas that I see recommended quite a lot with these that I have seen are:

Strong Girl Bong Soon - absolutely loved it, also one of my favs and Park Hyung-Sik is genuinely one of the most perfect looking people I have ever seen.

What's Wrong with Secretary Kim? - enjoyed the general fluff of it at the start but as it went on it all just felt a bit empty and I wasn't invested (fine for that kind of watch but I want something that will fully hit me in the feels)

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo - really didn't do it for me at all, I found the story/characters a bit shallow and again wasn't really invested in it at all, especially the second half.

Go Back Couple - really enjoyed it, thought it was super well acted and funny but not a top five favourite.

It's Okay, That's Love - There were so many things I really liked about this drama, esp the FL but there were also a lot of things that I thought really sucked. I don't mind >!a bad boy that becomes a good guy/you grow to like as he falls in love but they have to have at least some redeeming qualities at the start and I felt the ML was such an arsehole I actually couldn't get past it!<.

20th Century Boy and Girl - Again, really liked this, but never felt it really reached super amazing heights, just circled the bowl of lots of feelings/greatness but never quite got there.

Fight for my Way - Soooo many people recommend this and I watched one episode and honestly hated all the characters and could not deal with them so dropped it (please tell me if that is something other people experienced but they persevered and it got better as maybe I was just not patient enough!)

Anything you think has the magical combo of being hilarious, really insightful and relatable, has a cracking and deep romance and has me crying multiple times in the way AoY, BTIMFL and Be Melodramatic did will be so hugely appreciated so massive massive thank you in advance!

Welcome to the final Weekly Binge discussion of Be Melodramatic episodes 15 & 16. We will take a short break before returning on Thursday the 11th of March for the soft melo tones of Chocolate. For those wishing to join our discussions of Chocolate you can find this drama exclusively on Netflix.

Upcoming discussion schedule:

Date: Episodes: Notes:
Thursday March 11th 1 - 2
Sunday March 14th 3 - 5
Thursday March 18th 6 - 8
Sunday March 21st 9 - 11 Nominations for next drama
Thursday March 25th 12 - 14
Sunday March 28th 15 - 16 Announcement of next drama

Weekly Binge Guidelines:

Anyone is welcome to join the Weekly Binge.

Every week we host two discussions (Thursday/Sunday) in which we discuss approximately three hours/three episodes of a selected drama, in total approximately 6 hours/episodes per week. We are all from different time zones so there is no need to panic about being late to the party (we do operate on KST as a standard).

Within the frame of the three episodes, you may discuss anything you can think of. Whether it is a one-off post to say you enjoyed the drama, episodic notes, your midnight snack recipe, essays on how an actors portrayal of a character made you feel, be melodramatic rants about something you thought of while watching, haikus scripts or exercise routines that distribute your fat evenly, the choice is yours.

If you have previously completed the drama, or, got ahead on the binge please be courteous of those who are watching the drama for the first time. When in doubt spoiler tags are your friend.

When we get close to the end of a drama we open up nominations (third last post) for a new drama, those dramas are then voted on by the regular members of the weekly binge. If you have participated in the discussions and would like to join in the next drama's discussion please note this as a response to the nomination comment so we can invite you to join the vote. Every time we have a new restriction for the type of drama, so that we will not repeat the same type of drama over and over, and so that the Binge will be attractive for different people with different tastes.
