A list of puns related to "Barometer World"
Coordinates are a bit of an odd thing in Minecraft. It's kind of just accepted that to view them you have to use F3 or switch them on in Bedrock. However, having to use methods like that are.. not great. Specifically for people who don't want to / don't know how to activate them, as it's more "cheaty" in nature.
So, for the X and Z Coordinates I think showing them on Maps works quite well, (it even worked that way on Bedrock in the past, not sure if it still does) but what about the Y Coordinates? Well, I suggest a Barometer!
(the image above is of course only my interpretation, and would likely look quite different)
The Barometer would be made from 4 Copper Ingots in a circular pattern with 1 Redstone Dust in the middle. (basically the Copper equivalent to the Compass/Clock) When held it would show the Player's current Y coordinate somewhere on the Screen, and the Gauge would be more or less full depending on they're current Height in the World.
Now you may be thinking, "Why should this be a thing? The Y coordinate isn't even that important." To which, I would somewhat agree pre-1.18. But here's the thing: With the increased World Height, Mojang is adjusting Ore Spawns. Among those changes, is the fact that every Ore now has it's own unique Y Coordinate at which that Ore is most Abundant. Which, in my opinion, makes the Y Coordinate very important.
And if you still think it's redundant because of Coordinates, well, you're right. But so are Compasses. And even Loadstones. There isn't much of anything that those features add you can't get from simply looking at and writing down Coordinates, but they're there because you shouldn't have to look at the Coordinates! I think it's far more interesting to use in-World items for things like this, and Coordinates are this weird thing that're very useful, but have very little to no in-World form of tracking. Y Coordinates especially.
I am not Joseβs biggest fan but feel compelled to step in and defend after the recent kicking he has taken.
Pep Guardiola gets a lot of credit for having a philosophy and how he stamps this on his teams. He is praised for being a purist. When Pep comes across a player that doesnβt fit his philosophy (Joe Hart, Ibra, Yaya Toure), he discards them and is usually praised for his decisiveness and courage.
However, Mourinho has a βphilosophyβ too. It comes down to total commitment, putting the collective over the individual and an βus against themβ siege mentality. This was especially evident in his pre-Madrid teams of Porto, Chelsea and Inter.
Mourinhoβs favorites are the players that buy into this. He is loyal to these players to a fault (Ivanovic being a recent example). For players that donβt, he attempts to shock a response out of them and moves on the players that donβt respond.
What is wrong with that? Why is it any different from Pep discarding players who donβt fit his blueprint? And these are extraordinarily well paid, young men we are talking about here, not 11 year old children. I know I certainly would have appreciated some of this tough love during my whirlwind 20s.
An underlooked factor of Mourinho is the lasting positive impact he seems to have on his clubs even after his customary toxic 3rd season departure. This is because Mourinho leaves behind linchpins and leaders in the team who are far more mentally resilient than they were before. (Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Ramos, Xabi Alonso, Ibrahimovic.)
Look at this years world cup as an illustration. Lingard has become a key member of the English team. Lukaku was the undisputed leader in the Belgian team, with coaches remarking at the massive step up he has made. Jose defended him tooth and nail during his mid season slump when United fans (including me) started calling him a donkey, but gets zero credit for his amazing development.
And of course, Paul Pogba.
Pogba joined United after a disappointing and anonymous Euro 2016. He has had a mixed 2 years, where Mourinho tried to instill discipline in him, a requirement echoed by Deschamps. In WC 2018, we see a Pogba who was disciplined and increasingly talismanic as the tournament wore on. Jose himself remarked on how this was the Pogba he wanted to see. Did Jose get any credit for helping to turn the immature, ineffective Euro 2016 Pogba into the talismanic WC 2018 winner?
Compare that to Pepβs players at the World Cup. Sterling? Kdb? Kun? Jesu
