Does thyroid/hashimoto have anything to do with BUN/Creatinine Ratio?

In terms of correlation with each other.

My level came up semi high and tbh I think I've been experiencing some pain in that area but I had an ultrasound earlier and it was all good.

My TPO is at 103 but thats and I'm not on meds yet, I haven't dipped enough yet for my thyroid panels but it's getting there slowly.

BUN/Creatinine Ratio 30.1, BUN level 19, Creatinine. 61? Thoughts?

I just had a blood panel done and my levels came back as high for the ratio, but normal for the individual levels. My doc has not went over them with me yet, but I'm worried.

My stats are as follows; 37f, 260 lbs, 5'7. Never previously diagnosed with kidney disease but a year ago I got a raging infection that started as a UTI and moved up. I was on three different antibiotics before it abated. Ever since, I've had side pain and sometimes the UTI pain come back.

6 months ago, all my levels were normal--the ratio was 19. Anybody have any ideas of why it got so high in this time?

Low Bun/creatinine ratio multiple times over a year?

25 male. A lot of blood work was done recently (I’ve had a lot of episodes of diarrhea over the last year about once a month) only oddities were very slightly low potassium, B12 just over the threshold 181 when cutoff was 180, and what im worried about; the BUN/ creatinine ratio. Normal ration is 10-20, mine was 9.8 last year when tested through a basic wellness screening it was 9.6. Anyway my BUN level was 9, and creatinine 0.92 so they both fell within normal limits. Online it doesn’t say much about that ratio and what it means, it says liver disease but all the other levels were normal for liver function.

Is this worrisome?

high eGFR AND high BUN/Creatinine ratio ?

Just got some lab tests back and my eGFR is listed at 121 and my BUN/Creatinine ratio is at 41. Note that I had only fasted for ~4 hours (which was in the range the test recommended for more useful results).

I've been taking D3 supplements pretty regularly and getting a lot of protein (~1g/1lb) while cutting weight and working out consistently.

From what I understand, eGFR indicates kidney function and a reading of 121 is healthy. However, a high BUN/Creatinine ratio could indicate kidney damage? Besides that, the only other abnormal reading is high AST (which I don't think has anything to do with kidney function).

Anyhow, just wondering if this should be concerning.

Thanks.

Elevated Creatinine, normal BUN and ratio

Hello guys how was wondering if anyone has insights on this or suggestions, I suspect it could have been acute dehydration but wouldn’t that also lead to high BUN? I have been cramping up from time to time this past week or 2, also having bouts of fatigue and brain fog.

Things that I think could have lead to this overuse of stimulants + lack of hydration from Coffee, nicotine by vaping (vaping can be dehydrating)

BUN/CREATININE RATIO - Question, blood in urine for a short burst, frequent urination.

UREA NITROGEN (BUN) = 12 CREATININE = 0.84 BUN/CREAT RATIO = 14

Is this normal number for a 45 year old male? This was from a Urologists' yesterday who is trying to get me to do a CT and Scope which is going to cost $$$.

I've had some frequent minor urination issues, some blood in Urine once or twice, slight Kidney pain in Dec. Generally on the day to day I am fine, urine is rather clear. I had a rough stretch before this where I did not tolerate a Statin prescribed to me and a Blood pressure medicine that IMO had too much water pill in it (Lisinopril 20mg/ Hydroclorithyside 25mg). And lost 20 pounds with Pneumonia. I'm thinking maybe this temporarily strained my Kidneys.

Another test ran in December had this...from my primary doc, this is the guy I first mentioned stuff to BEFORE seeing the Urologist above yesterday.

Microalbumin/Creat Ratio 7.9 MCG/MG

MICROALBUMIN URINE RANDOM 1.9 MG/DL

Creatinine, Random U 241.02 MG/DL

And no one seemed alarmed.

Going back further to Sept...this test was from my primary.

BUN 10 MG/DL 8 to 26 MG/DL 8 - 26 MG/DL

Creatinine 0.82 MG/DL 0.80 to 1.50 MG/DL 0.80 - 1.50 MG/DL

Total CK 57 U/L

My thoughts is that the blood thing may have been a one off. I'm not 100% sure if my Kidney pain is Kidney or referred back pain. I am also thinking I was recently told I am flirting with diabetes and maybe the urination changes are more related to that and that I just need to focus on losing weight and controlling blood sugar and see if the symptoms reduce.

Hemoglobin A1C 6.5 % <5.7% % <5.7% %

It's a lot of info, just hoping someone in the know may have thoughts on these numbers. If my primarily doc was not freaked out by my numbers and the new ones seem similar I am not sure I need to spend $2K for a scope and a CT at this second.

Thanks!

Low BUN and BUN/Creatinine ratio following colonoscopy

Hi all. Following a colonoscopy last week that turned up active, moderate inflammation and ulceration on the right side of my colon, my GI doc sent me in to get some lab work done in preparation for a switch from azathioprine to Humira. I got that done two days after the scope. Other than my CRP being slightly elevated (for the first time, actually), the only other out-of-whack numbers were my BUN and BUN/creatinine ratio. Dr. Google tells me this is rare and can be a sign of liver failure or reduced protein intake. In addition to the colonoscopy prep, I’ve had a fairly diminished appetite in recent months (likely due to being in a flare and also going through a period of high stress). I’m thinking/hoping that COULD be the culprit. I’m curious, though: Anyone else here ever had these numbers be on the low side?

EDIT: Maybe also worth noting that I had to have my azathioprine dosage reduced from 150 mg to 100 mg back in December due to my WBC count getting a little too low?

Normal eGFR, creatinine, BUN, creatinine/BUN ratio but hematuria and proteinuria? What's going on?

I'm 25, caucasian, in pretty good shape but I have a history of steroid abuse and have had high blood pressure while using that was uncontrolled for a while. I take 80 mg of telmisartan which brings my systolic into the 120's and diastolic in the 60's. I do occasionally take 200 mg of modafinil for energy/focus which I've actually just realized spikes my bp into the 140's/150's which is not good. Recent bloodwork/UA here: https://imgur.com/a/eNiB8

I have an appt with a nephrologist in a week but i've been noticed frothy urine. Looks like a bubble bath sometimes. I've been taking a gram of suma root 4 times per day which seems to have significantly reduced the frothiness. (apparently it reduces proteinuria and is kidney protective). I also urinate very frequently. I have had microhematuria since childhood that my urologist said was benign but he didn't really do any testing other than labs and urine. No imaging or biopsy or anything like that so I probably wouldn't be concerned if it weren't for the plus 2 protein and frothiness which is scaring the crap out of me.

High BUN, Creatinine, and low eGFR - Can this be due to dehydration?

Hi - I'm a 26 year old male, weighing 215 lbs and 6'2".

I recently went for an annual check up since I was having some serious constipation (fine now), and they took my blood work. They've yet to review and call me, but I logged into the patient portal and noticed my kidney metrics were all off:

BUN:40

Creatinine: 3.78

eGFR:21

From some Googling an eGFR of 21 is damn near kidney failure...

Now due to the constipation from days prior I was vomiting a lot of the liquids I was ingesting and I also remember as I was leaving I specifically asked for a bottle of water on my way out since I felt dehydrated. Could this be the reason my levels were low or are my kidneys about to give out? I noticed before I saw these results I felt like I was needing to drink a ton of water so I'm hoping I was just dehydrated... I'm seeing a GI doctor in the morning.

Microalbumin/creatinine ratio and possible kidney damage

Female 26 5’4 110lbs Caucasian diagnosed with SLE 6 months ago taking hydroxychloroquine 400mg

I just did bloodwork and a UA. My creatinine is normal, most bloodwork normal but UA shows trace blood, no blood on microscopic examination and microalbumin/creatinine range is 2.9 which isn’t abnormal but at the very end of the normal range. Abnormal is 3 and above. because I have SLE I am concerned about kidney damage. Could this indicate very early damage? Or is it nothing to worry about at all?

High BUN, high bilirubin, high creatinine, low GFR

Had some blood tests done and haven’t heard back from the doctor yet. BUN and bilirubin were well above the top of the reference range. Creatinine was slightly above the top of the reference range. GFR was 60, the very bottom of normal. Any lower and it would indicate kidney failure.

I’m not looking for a diagnosis but would welcome any experience you might have with similar results.

I haven’t mentioned diet to the doctor yet. Is there any chance that this way of eating will change how you interpret the results?

Update: after speaking with the doctor and reading the links below I am no longer concerned with the test results. But I do plan on having the test done again in 6 months for comparison.

I got my blood test back and I have a severely elevated albumin/creatinine ratio. Could I be having kidney issues?

I’m a 28 year old Asian male, 5’9, 230 lbs, diagnosed with NASH fatty liver and diagnosed Type 2 diabetic since December 2020 (A1C and fasting glucose was normal before 2020, in March 2020 I was diagnosed with pre diabetes)

Due to insurance issues I wasn’t able to see my endocrinologist since January 2021. Since I got new insurance I got an order for blood work from my endocrinologist who I won’t actually see until March. I did my blood work and got back the results. My A1C is at 6.3 (fasting glucose 103 mg/dl) down from 9.5 at diagnosis, and my AST and ALT are both barely within range. but what caught my eye was my severely elevated ACR

Creatinine is at 183 mg/dl Albumin is at 68 mg/dl ACR is at 372 mcg/mg, which according to the sheet says it’s severely elevated

What does this mean? Could I be having kidney issues?

EDIT: I also forgot to note I have been diagnosed with mild sleep apnea since 2018, which is untreated. Other than that I have no physical symptoms that might make me think I have a kidney disease

I’m trying to figure out what really matters in these tests, is it the total protein value being flagged red at 0.20 g/L or is it the ratio at 65 mg a day? Does 0.20 g/L matter if the urine creatinine is 295? Does it even out, or what? I’m planning on doing a 24 hour one tomorrow.

High creatinine but normal BUN?

I'm making a post for a couple of reasons:

  1. To share what I've learned in case it's helpful for anyone else
  2. To ask a couple of questions in case someone has more visibility into my cat's potential situation

Long story short, my 5 year-old cat (otherwise healthy, muscular, proper weight for how long he is) was throwing up every 4-5 days for a couple of months. This was not surprising because we suspected that he had upper tract IBD and his sister (who we also own) has lower tract IBD. We've been able to control symptoms by feeding high quality wet food, but he has been known to have flare-ups. But we decided to take him to a vet, because his latest flare-up was lasting a relatively long time.

Vet visit #1: Blood test shows high creatinine (2.3), slightly elevated SDMA (15), and totally normal BUN. Urinalysis shows slightly low urine specific gravity (1.019). I freak out because I think my 5 y.o. cat may have CKD or some acute kidney distress.

At this point I begin mixing water into his wet food, which seems to substantially calm down his vomiting.

Vet visit #2 (1 month after visit #1): Ultrasound (performed by a specialized technician) shows a totally normal set of kidneys, but inflamed upper GI tract. Helps to confirm suspicion that cat has IBD but no support for CKD. Cat is still intermittently throwing up, but not as often as before.

Vet visit #3 (1 month after visit #2): Blood test shows even higher creatinine (2.6), SDMA test fails due to lab error, but BUN remains totally normal. Urinalysis shows improved specific gravity (1.030) which to my understanding is a normal number for a hydrated cat who only is fed wet food.

I freak out even more about the rising creatinine. I try to slowly switch him to kidney-friendly foods, and this sets off his IBD. He vomits almost every day for a couple of days, I switch him back to his normal food, but the vomiting continues. Vomiting is (and always has been) clear liquid with nothing in it, and almost always happens in the late afternoons. I begin feeding him 4x's a day, with an additional time around the later afternoons when he normally vomits. Vomiting stops with the exception of a hairball.

Internal Medicine Specialist Visit (1 month after visit #3): Creatinine has decreased back to 2.3 and BUN remains totally normal. Everything else looks great, but a new biomarker the specialist tested for, fPL which is an indicator for pancreatitis, is 2x the reference range. Specialist looks back over ultra
