A list of puns related to "Avant garde music"
Taylor Swift is a fan of - and listens to - the music of avant garde electronic duo Autechre.
Following up with someone else's post, I love ambient/experimental usage of saxophone in music. I'm thinking things like Joseph Shabason and Ulla Strauss, as well as the Floating Points/Pharoah Sanders album.
Would love to hear more of this sax :)))
Hey, so recently I fell in love with the sound of the flute and was wondering if anyone knows any experimental/avant-garde albums or compositions where the flute can be heard either somewhere in the background or as the main instrument?
Something like this for example, but I'm open to anything:
I can't for the life of me remember the name of a certain Japanese musician. I know he released at least one avant-garde experimental jazz record that had some ancient idol on the cover (possibly 60s-70s timeframe), but later went on to experiment with traditional ethnic Japanese music. So while he remained experimental, he started moving in the realm of folk sounds. One additional clue is that I remember he works with sound design in some musical theater in the US nowadays.
I think there's a tendency for many people to think that experimental or avant-garde music is necessarily alienating and unpleasant to mainstream audiences, and is therefore relegated to a small audience of people with unusual tastes. Of course we know that's not strictly true. Experimental and avant-garde music pushes the boundaries of what is possible, and these innovations can make their way into popular, mainstream music, either by breaking through to a mainstream audience directly or by inspiring other musicians to try new things which end up appealing to the mainstream.
What are some experimental or avant-garde tracks, albums, or artists that you think have had the biggest impact on mainstream music?
Hi!
Im searching for a city where i could travel for discovering a new culture and new people, but also to make some connections.
Recently i have become more for focused on composing and performing experimental/avant garde music, combined with various types of medias (art scene/gallery, movie, video games, interractive stuff..)
Im wondering if there is a city with a cool growing art scene where i could met people into that kind of stuff, possibly in a cheap country as i am pretty broke!
Thanks in advance for all your suggestions!
EDIT : thanks for all the suggestions really, i wasnt expecting so much feedback. I might try to explore Berlin in the next months, also i wish i could visit Portugal when i think about it. Lots of places you suggested are from the US. Seems like this is definitively some place to go. Wish than one day i will have the occasion to visit this land, it seems so far away!
All genres of classical music is fine. Electronic, musique concrete, atonal, neo-romantic... Hit me with it.
Hello people, As you can gather from my title I just moved here as a 2nd year student and don't yet know anyone in the city. My greatest passions are music and languages. I'm 19 and have been playing guitar for 13 years. Some of my favorite groups include Agalloch, Opeth, LantlΓ΄s, Mastodon (early discography) and Alcest. As for languages, I'm an English/French speaker and am majoring in German. Some other miscellaneous interests include medieval/romantic era literature (Novalis, Bocaccio, Petrarch, etc.), geography and elder scrolls/pokemon (2nd to 5th generation). If you're keen on listening to/playing some out there music (I also listen to classical, shoegaze/dream pop, forest folk, anything melancholic and beautiful) or just wandering around the city, feel free to message me. :)
Also looking for more advanced musicians to collaborate with live/in concert for my surreal prog metal project. The project has one EP out that got pretty good coverage from the avant-garde metal community/critics. Especially looking for an experienced bassist to record my next EP with.
It's kinda strange to see how both bands like Einsturzende Neubauten and KMFDM are considered industrial.
THIS IS NOT SOLVED, DON'T TRUST THE FLAIR OR THE BOT !!!

^ sorry for the sound clipping in the beginning of the recording. Promise it gets better eventually!
Not much to say that I know about this, except that I can't believe that it's something someone composed and recorded solely for the purposes of it ending up as some barely-known phone model's ringtone.
There MUST be more to it!
P.S. For the record, I've had TOMT's before (on an old account) where another ringtone that was on my landline actually DID turn out to have an origin that was traced. i.e. we SOLVED that old one. Maybe we can do this one too? :)
P.P.S. If that's any help, the manual says: "FC 8050 Cordless Phone"
I know the label is vague, but thatβs kind of the point. I am not asking for the most experimental or the most abrasive art, but again, for a good place to start :-)
I never had a problem ordering from either, but the last three orders from Sound Cave all arrived damaged / mangled. Co-incidentally, it was all Avant Garde Music releases - their recent Sadness reprints, and today four Olhava LPs.
Not only are the covers bent to hell, three out of the four albums are warped beyond being playable.
Like I said, I donβt know if this is a Sound Cave or Avant Garde issue, but this is the third time - so I figured Iβd put it out there.
Artists I enjoy:
Mutyumu
World's End Girlfriend
Arai Tasuku
Matryoshka
Most of all, I've been hoping to find something in a similar vein to Mutyumu (like a mixture of orchestra/post-rock, melodic metalcore, and operatic vocals?). Searching has only yielded bands that sound nothing like them.

P.P.S. Don't assume that if this has an origin in a real song, that it's a 1-to-1 relationship. Could be that this is either an abridged version, or it has been slightly altered, as compared to the original, or BOTH.
