A list of puns related to "Arlington Road"
Looking for movies where the main character is trying to prove a certain someone is a murderer- Things like The Burbs, Rear Window. Doesn't have to be "neighbour" related like the ones I used as examples, I only used them because I can't think of any others
Just saw it for the first time last night... This movie is a great little, mostly-forgotten 90's thriller!!! SPOILERS AHEAD... Tim Robbins is great at playing the creepy bad guy who gets close to his neighbor for nefarious reasons. The way this movie takes the real-life circumstances of the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995 and Ruby Ridge incident of 1992, and adds a kind of dark, twisted sub-plot connecting them, is masterful. Again, something about Tim Robbins makes him an excellent choice for a villain. It's his eyes. I appreciate that the movie didn't make him a comic book, over-the-top bad guy... more of the quiet, mysterious, bubbling-under-the-surface lunatic who could live right next door to you.
Also just wanted to observe how, in today's unfortunate time with some American citizens trying to hurt or kill each other over political differences, this movie is now more relevant 20 years later.
Who else liked this thriller? What did you think of it?
Going to be living in the McLean over the summer and was wondering if there were any good road rides (25+ miles) in the area? I've been messing around with Strava route builder for now, but was wondering if anyone had any go-to routes in the area that they could recommend.
I'm thinking of doing an overnight hike northbound from Rte 9 to the Stratton Arlington Rd/ Kelly Stand Road. I would be parking at rte 9. Are there any shuttles or Uber service at the Stratton Arlington Rd/ Kelly Stand Road?
I'm really just looking for a good overnight hike so any recommendations on that would be great too.
Thanks!
Holy shit! The ending of this movie had my jaw on the ground... literally nothing but disbelief when I witnessed the ending. Maybe itβs because of the Hollywood expectation for the good guys to prevail (something thatβs mocked in another of my favorites, The Player), but seeing Tim Robbins and the terrorists blow up the building and set everything up perfectly on Jeff bridges just had me shook.
I was really rooting for Bridges of course so the ending only had me that much more shook. Wanting to hear yβallβs thoughts on this movie, never really heard any Arlington road chatter.
I'm looking for films where people are suspecting that their neighbors might be up to something/have killed someone. Things like Rear Window, Arlington Road, Summer of 84, Disturbia.
Iβll be honest: I havenβt watched this film since it came out in 1999, but it popped into my head while I was watching some Batman Forever clips on YouTube (donβt ask). In light of this, I may be misremembering some of the details.
I remember being Blown Away (heh) by Jeff Bridgesβ increasing paranoia, frustration and isolation in the build-up to the finale. Tim Robbins plays a fantastic creep as only he can, and I know there was a great supporting cast that Iβm mostly forgetting right now.
Everything about the ending clicked into place in the subsequent montage, but I remember being a little confused as to why they were going to such great lengths to frame Bridges. Were they able to convince the public that he martyred himself for their cause?
Ah well, time for a rewatch. I donβt see it streaming anywhere so Iβll have to see if I can dig out my old DVD (I might have originally watched it on VHS).
TL:DR - If anyone is looking for a 90s-era thriller in the vein of Blown Away, Negotiator, Usual Suspects etc. check it out.
I started biking in September of 2019. I ride a heavy Giant Cypress DX W. I'm not actually sure how much it weighs, but I know it isn't light. My commute is from Arlington to DC, which involves a lot of hills. It is incredibly taxing to ride uphill, and I see people on road bikes passing me left (and right). I rarely see hybrids for some reason.
Every time I ask someone at a bike shop if I should get a commuter, they tell me to stick with the bike I have now. The tires are less likely to get punctured by the terrible bike lanes in DC, it has fenders for riding in the rain, its big and I can sit upright, etc.
I will be using it mostly for commuting, but I think that I might start going out on weekend rides iwth others if I have a faster bike. So...
Should I upgrade from my heavy hybrid with 24 gears to a lighter road bike for my commute? I want something lightweight, but I also want fenders and to have the option of sitting upright. I am relatively new to the biking community so any advice is helpful!
Edit: Thank you guys so much for your input. I learned a ton about bikes from all of the advice and I think that a cyclocross bike is what I'm looking for!
Edit: I ended up with a gorgeous Trek Lexa and I couldnβt be happier!! Thanks all for help
I just re-watched this movie last night after not having seen it in 20 years. It makes me so happy.
