It's been a long and interesting two years from help-desk to now. I started applying to jobs back in Aug and was so disheartened because I was not getting any callbacks. Now I'm going from a Net Admin position making 40k to an analyst WFO position for 58K, unlimited PTO, and fully paid benefits.
Keep trying folks, it pays off in the end!
Edit: WFH
So I have been waiting over two years for my appeal to be sent to an administrative judge. Requested my records twice and updated my address and waited and waited and waited. When I would call they would just tell me they were reviewing my case. Now it seems they are telling a different story. Seems my address never got updated and they ignored the records requests and never sent my case to an administrative judge. I am so upset. I started this process 3 years ago and they are so incompetent. I did not hear from the Social Security Office in my last city of residence one single time via phone or mail. What an incredibly shitty process. On top of that they lied when I originally submitted my application and said I had no proof of disability even though I submitted around 300 pages of medical records. Then they denied again saying it had to be severe in the time frame I quit working and I submitted records from 5 different doctors that signed off saying it was severe and they denied it again. I hate the federal government nonsense and am beyond frustrated. I won't even begin to go into all my personal life struggles this past year but it's been really really bad...worst things I have ever gone through. Fucking fuck.
With Taproot only a few hours from activation, it seems like a good time to expand on the Taproot part from a previous ELI5 shared a few months ago.
Taproot is arguably the biggest upgrade to Bitcoin's base-layer protocol, introducing a new signature algorithm and scripting language. It brings a set of protocols that enhance Bitcoin's privacy, security, scalability, fungibility and unlocks the infrastructure that will allow for seamless integration of L2/sidechain application protocols on Bitcoin.
Taproot was activated through the "speedy trial" approach. Under the speedy trial, miners were given three months to signal support for Taproot after the code was shipped. This required 90% of the blocks in a difficulty epoch(2016 blocks) to signal for Taproot. Activation was achieved at block height 687284 back in June.
Although some of the ideas included in the upgrade have been discussed for many years, the final iteration of Taproot was proposed by Bitcoin developer Gregory Maxwell in 2018. The upgrade is named after one of the three Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs) included in the upgrade - Schnorr Signatures(BIP 340), Taproot(BIP 341) and Tapscript(BIP 342).
By combining Schnorr signatures with MAST (Merklized Alternative Script Tree) and introducing a new, slightly modified scripting language called Tapscript, Taproot expands Bitcoin's smart contract capabilities, while offering more privacy and security by making multi-signature transactions and complex smart contracts indistinguishable from regular bitcoin transactions.
Schnorr signatures (BIP 340)
This part of the upgrade is a change to Bitcoin's cryptographic digital signature algorithm. In asymmetric cryptography (public-private key pairs), digital signature algorithms define the generation of digital signatures using a private key that proves the ownership of a corresponding public key.
The existing Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) of Bitcoin will not be replaced, but Schnorr signatures will be implemented in addition to it.
The Schnorr digital signature algorithm allows for something called key and signature aggregation using a protocol known as MuSig - multiple signatures created using multiple private keys corresponding to multiple public keys are combined to

Full disclosure, left job in November at 67 so Medicare is my only insurance but I feel uneasy as I don't have a card yet...
I've come across some online applications usually through Indeed/zip recruiter that when applying for a job require you to fill out a form about being on unemployment and at the end ask for your social. You cannot apply to the job without filing out this information. I get all the way through it and then at the end it asks for your social which I don't feel comfortable including which means I don't actually apply to the job.
I flag these jobs as asking for inappropriate information as it seems really sketchy and unnecessary to ask for a social, much less if you've been on unemployment recently. Anyone know if this is legit or moreso, WHY this info is required?
Thank you!
I've been researching and reading about Spring security quite a lot in the past month or two, but I'm still bemused by the complexity and the shortage of good examples
There is a lot of outdated resources out there and also resources which seem to improvise a lot and not follow the intended spring security flow, so I decided to stick to the official documentation strictly. But I couldn't find any examples of how I would achieve what is mentioned in the title...
So I would like to have an application that acts as an AuthorizationServer
, so it will authenticat users and generate tokens. Clients don't matter one is enough.
Other than that I would also like to integrate Google social login
, which means now as a ResourceServer
I need to be able to validate tokens from both issuers, and I just can't figure out how to do that...
Actually I don't even know where to start
I started in Q1 of 2021 as an Associate Application Security Engineer for a well-known global insurance company.
I feel that I've been low-balled when they've given me an offer since I was a fresh graduate when I started. I graduated BS Computer Science from a state university in Manila which was part of the "top employers' choice" survey.
The initial offer that they gave me was 23K, but I was able to negotiate it to 25K (I was not able to negotiate that well back then since my research was lacking in the rates for the Philippine market).
I want to know what should be the estimated current market rate for my role.
I'm in charge of making sure that our web applications are free from vulnerabilities that could be exploited and hacked. I perform application vulnerability assessments and make use of automated vulnerability scanning tools (sast/Β dast).
I always take initiative in the workplace.Β I have successfullyΒ pilotedΒ a fewΒ process improvements in our pipelines. I'm highly keen onΒ learning initiatives because I want to improve my skills.
Right now, it's almost been a year since I started. Β When I was still a student, I worked for about a year as a TSR. (I disclosed my previous salary of 18K, which might have influenced the recruiter to provide me with such an initial offer).

If I understand it correct UST will be always wrapped when bought, used on other chains. Imo it will not be a problem since regular people are not aware of the risks, there are very unlikely anyway. But what do you think? I hope UST can and will be used on all big blockchains as the standard stablecoin. This could if true be a major risk factorβ¦
A friend of mine wants to rent a condo in philadelphia. But was told to set up an escrow for security deposit. And without being approve yet, wants a certified check to be sent to the real estate company (first, last, security deposit and application fee). He finds this very weird and uncomfortable because he hasn't applied yet and these are the things he is reading on the email. Asked the realtor but was told that she hold the security deposit on escrow.
Would appreciate if anybody can help. My friend feels so uneasy about this and wanted to make sure if this is common or normal. Thank you.
I don't see many posts about application security and was wondering whether this is a good field to get into. Is it a niche that a lot of developers tend to avoid for whatever reason? How does salary compare to being just a developer? I come from a development background and am looking to make the jump. Also looking for suggestions for any resources that I could use to get familiarized with the field (books, blogs, etc).

My work insurance (former job) expires at the end of November. I just filled out the social security + Medicare application online. Apparently it can take 3-4 weeks for a decision, though I understand this will be back-dated to my application date once I get approved for coverage. Since I'm over 65 I'm sure I will be approved. However, if say I needed to go to the hospital in 2 weeks, what do I do?
Thank you.
Long wait times with RTB phone support. Hoping someone knows here.
gave forwarding address to landlord after moved out
landlord said she's keeping damage deposit because of xyz and never did it through proper channels (we never agreed, didn't go through RTB)
after 15 days we applied through RTB, filled all the paperwork, and served her with what RTB told us to give her
now landlord is saying, oh ok, i'll give you back the original deposit.
Will RTB drop the case now, or is LL still on the hook for not properly giving back our damage deposit.
Hello Reddit, I am Aparna Rayasam (u/AparnaRayasam), Senior Vice President and General Manager, Application Security at Akamai (u/akamai_technologies). My job is to help power and protect life online from some of the most dangerous threats launched at the internet.
With 24+ years of experience in software engineering, Iβve worked on some of the most technical problems in the industry. I started my career as a programmer and have led design, development, and delivery of many complex solutions in a career that has spanned across Adobe Systems and BEA Technologies. Iβm passionate about creating equitable organizations, and I led a thriving employee resource group at Akamai β The Womenβs Forum, with chapters for employees in the U.S., EMEA, and APJ-India.
In the past year, weβve seen more damage from cybercriminals attacking our institutions. Attackers are using technologies that leave fewer traces. Itβs a constant race for security teams to innovate and stay ahead. With over 300 TB of daily attack data and petabytes of daily internet traffic, Akamai leverages its unique edge platform, unparalleled visibility, and expert teams to create industry leading security solutions. It is my teamβs responsibility to create comprehensive and easy-to-use security products that scale to address todayβs sophisticated attacks. What does this mean for you? Less disruption and a secure online experience where you can bring your big ideas to life.
Ask me about countering threats with app and API security, fraud prevention, and network infrastructure security. How Akamai helps make life online unstoppable. Why math is often an overlooked aspect of STEM, or how we can create more equitable organizations. And maybe how to decompress with running or how to curate a beautiful living space (I love interior design)!
I was filling out my application for Social Security to start benefits next March. One of the questions was 'Want to enroll in Medicare Part B' I said yes.
Does this mean I will be enrolled in Medicare (A + B) when my Social Security starts next March? Or do I have to fill out a separate Medicare Application as well?
I will be turning 65 next March, so I will be eligible to receive Medicare.
Hello Guys, i have applied for the course "Computer application security" fall 2022. Is there anyone else who had applied for the same course on fall ? would be happy to connect
