A list of puns related to "Annexation of Hyderabad"
Operation Polo is the code name of the Hyderabad "police action" in September 1948, by the newly independent India against the Hyderabad State. It was a military operation in which the Indian Armed Forces invaded the Nizam-ruled princely state, annexing it into the Indian Union.
At the time of Partition in 1947, the princely states of India, who in principle had self-government within their own territories, were subject to subsidiary alliances with the British, giving them control of their external relations. In the Indian Independence Act 1947 the British abandoned all such alliances, leaving the states with the option of opting for full independence. However, by 1948 almost all had acceded to either India or Pakistan. One major exception was that of the wealthiest and most powerful principality, Hyderabad, where the Nizam, Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII, a Muslim ruler who presided over a largely Hindu population, chose independence and hoped to maintain this with an irregular army recruited from the Muslim aristocracy, known as the Razakars. The Nizam was also beset by the Telangana uprising, which he was unable to subjugate.
In November 1947, Hyderabad signed a standstill agreement with the dominion of India, continuing all previous arrangements except for the stationing of Indian troops in the state. However, with the rise of militant razakars, India found it necessary to station Indian troops and invaded the state in September 1948 to compel the Nizam. Subsequently, the Nizam signed an instrument of accession, joining India.
The operation led to massive violence on communal lines. The Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru appointed a commission known as the Sunderlal Committee. Its report, which was not released until 2013, concluded that "as a very reasonable & modest estimate...the total number of deaths in the state...somewhere between 30,000 & 40,000." Other responsible observers estimated the number of deaths to be 200,000 or higher.

β¦but it isnβt discovered for at least 200 years. What happens to subsequent world affairs? Does Canada manage to achieve the importance of the USβ 1960s heyday? Do world powers suddenly take a keener interest in the Americas? What kind of leaders would the country attract? What would even lead to such a brazen attempt in the first place?
I'm Palestinian, born and raised in the USA. I have family in Ramallah, so I go back to visit often. I'm trying to get a better understanding of what Netanyahu means by annexing the West Bank. Are the Jews that live in settlements there not Israeli citizens? What is the status of the Jews there? Are they allowed to vote?
At first I was shocked to hear that Netanyahu would want to annex the West Bank because I thought that would mean making all the Palestinians there Israeli citizens, which goes against everything he stands for, so I know that's definitely not going to happen.
So what exactly does he mean?
Donald Trump waves away opposition to this move by reminding Liberals that "Iceland isn't even in the EU".
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iceland%E2%80%93European_Union_relations
Stunned Democrats take a moment to regroup and respond: "Iceland is in NATO".
Trump is already walking away to his golf cart and waves his hand "So occupy it" he responds absent-mindedly.
300,000 pundits are writing a response when NATO pipes up "We already do".
So Trump is called back to the table and because Canada has an obligation to defend the Baltic nations, Trump backtraces a reason to support Canada annexing Iceland (from existing obligations in Latvia) and assumes it will pass with no other effort on his part.
"Canada will be able to defend Lithuania better, if it holds a base in the North Atlantic" Trump says in a rare press conference, not asking any questions. Like why he got the country Canada was REASSURING wrong, and that's the only thing CNN can talk about.
The UK seems paralyzed with Brexit with no government reaction, but an intense reaction from the public (and the public doesn't know how it is reacting yet, the BBC hasn't told them) forces their hand. France threatens to block it but Mike Pompeo threatens to withdraw support to Frances' adventures in Africa.
The big question for you users would be Russia, but you can create (or rewrite) any bits of the scenario you choose.
The only stipulation for your scenario is that Canada "reluctantly" accepts it, let's see some drama.
As per title: during the agression of Czechoslovakia by Nazi Germany, which resulted in the Munich Agreement and annexation of Sudetenland, Poland took advantage of the situation and issued an ultimatum demanding territory. Eventually they got it and militarily occupied it.
I can understand that this is a minor incident drowned in the general brouhaha and am informed about its prehistory. But it seems no different than the division of Poland between the USSR and the German Reich. I am searching for a nuanced explanation of why it's different and if it's not, why it has been completely sidetracked.
AFAIK it has never been discussed here and I've found only one comment which seems strange.
Netanyahu announced that he was going to extend Israeli sovereignity towards much of the West Bank. Gantz replied by boasting that Netanyahu had stolen the idea from him. It seems like this is becoming a mainstream idea, if it isn't already. I remember Bennett pushing it publicly some years ago. My question is: are you in favor of this or not? And why?
If full Israeli control were extended over these areas, wouldn't Israel's per capita GDP also fall quite a bit?
This isn't talked about much today in international media, but what's the climate like in Ukraine? How's the situation in eastern Ukraine? How are people dealing with it?
I've been playing HOI4 for a good time now (300 hours) and what I find to be really annoying is how unrealistic the peace treaty/annexation system is. If you win a war, you can just annex all the provinces of your enemies and there will be absolutely no resistance. I think Paradox should bring some features of EU4 into HOI4, like how if you annex a province with a different culture/ethnicity there will be resistance and uprisings even after you take it in a treaty, and annexed countries will have liberty desire and try to declare independence. This way Nazi Germany won't be able to just directly annex all of Europe and the USSR and suffer no backlash, which is impossible in reality.
