A list of puns related to "Anatomical plane"
Just started A&P I and studying my gluteus maximus off. Anyone have suggestion(s) for memorizing the anatomical planes?

###Biography
A giant flying fire-breathing turtle from the ancient Atlantean continent. Awakened in the sixties from his millenia-long slumber by a nuclear explosion, Gamera rose from the ice of the Arctic to rampage across the world once more. Gamera started off as a bad guy, wrecking Tokyo until he was tricked and launched into space. But after he returned, he gradually became more and more heroic and developed an affinity for children... not in a weird way though. Across his many adventures, Gamera has traveled through space, befriended several annoying Japanese kids, and duked it out with the weirdest kaiju you can imagine.
###Thread Guide
This thread covers the eight Showa era Gamera movies. All footage used is from the original Japanese versions. Note that the cheaper movies like to re-use footage of fights, and I've ignored these "duplicate" feats just to save space unless the feat is changed in some way by the new editing. The eighth film is sometimes theorized to feature a different Gamera or be set in a different continuity due to a weird subplot involving a boy who thinks his pet turtle turned into Gamera, but details in the movie itself and external material cast doubt on that. It's also just 90% stock footage from the previous movies, so I'm just going to include the few original feats here regardless.
Hover over a clip to see what number movie it's from. Some statements are also sourced from the official Gamera website, old official guidebooks, and newer material published with DVD re-releases of the movies.

The 60 meters / 200 feet measurement is repeated later, and he's also said to weigh 80 metric tons.
External sources also give 60 meters / 80 tons for his stats.

From a researcher's perspective, the ophthalmology community seems divided on this topic, but I cannot say whether the majority leans towards accepting or rejecting this layer as anatomically distinct.
This has not been done since 1844. Cross-sections have never been done except one incorrect one in a urology journal.

https://imgur.com/a/Hghxyxy (me trying to replicate the different forms of Pike push-up that I'm talking about)
Hey there, this is kind of an exploratory/debate post where I would like to have your opinion and experience on the topic of pike push-up form. My main intent behind this post is to understand which approach is best for strength gains and transferability towards skills like HSPU and bent-arm presses. Every single tutorial on the pike push-up has a slightly different approach and gives different form cues, even when leaving aside the plain bad ones (wrt calisthenics transferability at least) like "elbows flared out/head touching the ground between the hands/purely vertical plane of motion" (as in this picture). Even among the main well-recognized calisthenics influencers, there are significant disparities on the topic of pike push-ups.
I think there are mainly 2 approaches, although there is a whole spectrum between these two "extremes". These approaches seem to agree on what the top-part of the ROM should be (elevating the shoulders as much as possible, tucking the head between the shoulders, as shown in picture A), but differ in the lower part of the ROM.
- The first one (depicted in picture B) advocates for a diagonal movement, where the goal is to touch the ground with the nose very far forward in front the hands in order to increase the ROM. This is the form promoted for instance by Antranik in this detailed post. With this form, it is considered that some arching in the back is OK, since it would be very hard to maintain a perfect posterior pelvic tilt and hollow body in this position.
- The second one (depicted in picture C) advocates for a movement that is closer to vertical, where the goal is to lower the head until the forehead or top of the head touches the ground and forms a ~equilateral triangle with the hands. Examples of influencers promoting this technique are FitnessFAQs (for instance in this video from 1:35 on),

Why use Proximal and Distal instead of Superior and Inferior? What really is the difference? Sorry if this is a stupid question, just started doing anatomy and physiology. ππ
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
I am extremely close to finishing my NASM Corrective Exercise Specialization (CES) but the more research I have done around it independantly the less I am buying into it, so I thought I would ask you guys and gals for a little guidance.
In the CES the first movement used to assess dynamic posture is the Overhead Squat Assessment (OSA), but I'm wondering how valid it actually is as anatomically squat mechanics are very dependant on the length of the femur compared to torso for depth and forward lean, the optimal position of the feet in the transverse plane is dependant on hip anatomy, and a lot of what a good squat looks like can be seemingly queued.
Here's a great article from Bret Contreras which talks about this and includes a couple of very insightful videos from Personaltrainingdotcom:
https://bretcontreras.com/how-femur-length-effects-squat-mechanics/
So how legitimate actually is the OSA in finding 'muscle imbalances' in order to address 'movement dysfunctions' and help reduce pain and prevent injury?

The Call of the Void had remained in port above Terra Nova for three megaseconds after the signing of the treaty. While the delay was frustrating, Aaren understood very well that it was a necessary one, as there were more crew to hire and equipment to install that would be absolutely necessary for the ship to function to her fullest if they were actually going to be leaving known space for any real length of time. It was galling that part of that continued function they needed to correct for was keeping Aarenβs brain firing the way that it was supposed to.
As the crew had expanded, so had the list of people who could be considered its leaders. Aaren was rapidly coming to know them all, and could thank Amelia for that fact indirectly. That she continued to visit the shipβs gym on deck 6 every morning to maintain her physical condition set an example for the others, and she had talked Aaren into resuming the same. Although none had been commanded or even asked to follow in that example, the entirety of the command staff now gathered in that gym each ship-day around 22:0. The types and intensity of exercises that each did varied, but all worked out together until 26:0. Vaar seemed to be alternating primarily between various forms of strength-training, so Aaren had no idea why Amelia called her workouts in particular βa spectator sport.β Well, given her typical choice of outfit for those sessions, Aaren had difficulty in not watching her, but that was beside the point! After showering and getting changed, they had time to grab breakfast before the morning staff meeting.
That was another new thing. At 30:0 each ship-day, those department heads gathered in a compartment just aft of the main bridge to discuss the state of the ship and crew. They talked about what was working and what needed work, about their plans for that ship-day, and myriad other small things that needed to be covered. Sometimes the meeting was only a few hectoseconds, and sometimes it ran as late as 33:0, but it was a part of the morning routine. From there, each went off to perform their respective duties, gathering again in the officersβ mess for lunch from 48:0 to 52:0 before returning to duty until 67:0. The rest

There are a few things that are plaguing Judo in the modern era. One of them is that Judo is becoming increasingly hostile to adult learners. This is plain to see in general additudes inside and outside the Judo community. Among elite coaches (Jimmy Pedro, Travis Stevens) there's a common sentiment that Judo is for children and elite athletes. In the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community, there's the oft stated truism that Judo isn't worth learning because it is far too rough on the body. Better to learn wrestling they say, much safer.
While Judo is by no means easy on the body, I do believe that there's some truth to these sentiments, more so because of the increasing impositions we put on Judoka rather than some inherent mechanics that make Judo more hostile to adult learners than other grappling sports.
In a way, the most important factor in Judo is injury prevention. Jigoro Kano selected the safest techniques purely because he wanted long-term, continuous participation. Without injury prevention, participation plummets, especially among adults, for which injury has an outsize impact. While there is no way to fully prevent catastrophic injury, I do believe that the greater threat to adults is the chronic and sustained injury that occurs for a multitude of reasons.
Why does chronic injury matter? Because its the nagging pain that carries over to daily movements outside of Judo that will force people to retire. Elite athletes have a wide body of support to prevent or delay the onset of crippling levels of impingments, tendonosis, and cartilage tears (even though it catches up eventually). The average person does not, and will more often choose a different activity. This is a shame, because I believe with changes to rules and training methods, we could have a more robust adult population - or at least one that doesn't choose BJJ over Judo because of nagging knee issues.
I've identified a few factors that I believe increase the likelihood of chronic injury. I will only go over one in this essay, and explore more in the future.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

By treasures, I mean ingots of unearthly material, gemstones or folds of incorporeal cloth. Try and maintain a fantasy feel, but if some sci-fi subtly works its way in, it isn't too big a deal. This was inspired by Deep Carbon Observatory >!at the very end where the characters have made it to the vault and find all of the Underdark trading materials.!< Check it out if you have the chance or need inspiration, I got it for free off of DTRPG. Highly recommend DMs to run it and players to stay away. Generally speaking, I'm looking for things that may be traded back and forth across countries that exist in other-worldly environs. They can be physical, like some precious metal, or fairly conceptual, like a solidified secret. If you go the conceptual route, try and make it something that the PCs can have a general understanding of and perhaps use for. After all, most goods have a use to SOMEONE. I saw a similar post on interesting and rare coins after I started writing this, but coins aren't the only things that can be traded around.

Some people think that the lack of a broken hyoid bone is significant in this case. Some have even used it as evidence that JonBenet was 'barely' strangled. They're misinformed.
>βFracture of the hyoid is most common in manual strangulations in which about 34 percent of all victims show a fractured hyoid, 34 percent fractured thyroid, and 1 percent fractured cricoid. In ligature strangulations, the frequency of hyoid fracture falls to about 11 percent compared to 32 percent thyroid and 9 percent cricoid. Hangings produce only 8 percent fractured hyoids, 15 percent fractured thyroids, and 0.003 percent fractured cricoids.
The literature strongly suggests that hyoid fractures are rare in children and infants, since hyoid components are not fully ossified and are more flexible than in adults. Both antemortem and postmortem fracture origins must also be considered.β
Source: https://www.ojp.gov/ncjrs/virtual-library/abstracts/hyoid-fracture-and-strangulation
>βThe hyoid is the U-shaped bone of the neck that is fractured in one-third of all homicides by strangulation. On this basis, postmortem detection of hyoid fracture is relevant to the diagnosis of strangulation. However, since many cases lack a hyoid fracture, the absence of this finding does not exclude strangulation as a cause of death. The reasons why some hyoids fracture and others do not may relate to the nature and magnitude of force applied to the neck, age of the victim, nature of the instrument (ligature or hands) used to strangle, and intrinsic anatomic features of the hyoid bone. We compared the case profiles and xeroradiographic appearance of the hyoids of 20 victims of homicidal strangulation with and without hyoid fracture (n = 10, each). The fractured hyoids occurred in older victims of strangulation (39 +/- 14 years) when compared to the victims with unfractured hyoids (30 +/- 10 years). The age-dependency of hyoid fracture correlated with the degree of ossification or fusion of the hyoid synchondroses. The hyoid was fused in older victims of strangulation (41 +/- 12 years) whereas the unfused hyoids were found in the younger victims (28 +/- 10 years). In addition, the hyoid bone was ossified or fused in 70% of all fractured hyoids, but, only 30% of the unfractured hyoids were fused. The shape of the hyoid bone was also found to differentiate fractured and unfractured hyoids. Fractured hyoids were longer in the anterior-posterior plane and were more

"A light too bright for us to comprehend, a power that seems never to end, and grace and kindness no one can deserve; the Platinum Dragon still calls me a friend. I had never felt so safe and afraid than when he first spoke to me." - Galadinab Ancient Gold Dragon
Having studied all of the metallic dragons, it was only a matter of time before I started looking into Bahamut. While I researched Tiamat for necessity, Bahamut's story was a pleasure. I spent the better part of a year not only speaking to the kind-hearted dragons around him but even taking an audience with him during this time. So many misconceptions of dragons exist, and Bahamut is no stranger to these. While I can only do my part to speak the truth, it was a blessing to have such a safe assignment.
Bahamut is thought to have been the father of all metallic dragons as he is the only platinum dragon. The truth is that Bahamut is the last of the now-extinct line of metallic Platinum Dragons. Two other lineages of metallic dragons also died away with time while the modern 5 remain.
His ascension was primarily due to him playing such a pivotal role in both culture and leadership of early metallic dragons, as their society wasn't always so benevolent. Banding together with other dragons of his kind to stop the schemes of Tiamat is what caused his ascension and continues to be one of his primary goals.
Bahamut is easily recognized by his reflective metallic scales and the conical horns directly behind his head in his dragon form. Despite him being the only remaining dragon of his kind, he was a unique dragon among his kin as well. Bahamut has a catlike body structure like all dragons, but unlike more modern dragons, his front legs are noticeably longer than his hind legs. His head is conical and sports many large and sharp teeth, being descendant from reptilian carnivores. Notably, his tail is longer than most dragons in proportion, and the last 10% splits into 2 independently prehensile ends.
He often takes the shape of an elderly human dressed in a platinum robe accompanied by 7 yellow canaries, his 7 most trusted and cherished dragon friends. All seven of
