Online Essay Grading/Academic Grading

Hi all, I have been grading online essays for a bit for Marco Learning. I would like to try to earn more income this way, either other essay grading companies or other academic grading. Is anyone doing this in some facet? I do have a college degree and extensive teaching experience. THank you.

[Academic] The Average Grade 12 Student (High School Seniors/people graduating HS in 2022)

Hi everyone!

This survey is for a school assignment; my chosen topic is about the average student.

I realize some of the questions may be considered personal, but the form is anonymous so I hope you are willing to answer as honestly as possible.

I make no concrete claims about how long the survey will take (could be between 5 and 20 minutes).

Thanks for your help!

[Repost] [Academic] Web application for explaining the automatic article quality grading of English Wikipedia articles (Article editors of Wikipedia)

Hello Everyone!

I am a bachelor student at the Free University of Berlin and I am looking for some participants to test my web application: https://forms.gle/F4RB3XtGTMpLdr9KA
It will take about 10 - 15 minutes.

Requirements:

  • Experience in editing articles on Wikipedia pages

Background Information:
Articles on Wikipedia are rated and receive a grade. The English Wikipedia uses ORES, a machine learning web service created by the Wikimedia Foundation’s Machine Learning team. ORES offers a variety of machine learning models and one of them is the article quality model. This model assesses existing articles automatically and predicts the most likely grade for them based on their structural characteristics.

I am working on a web application that can hopefully explain these grade predictions and on what they are based on, to make it more transparent what an article might be lacking or what makes it so good.

How to Fix an Incorrect Grade in Academic History?

So in academic history for one of my classes, I have a B+ when I should have at least an A. To clarify, the class is graded based on whether you satisfy certain criteria involving completing assignments and scoring well on tests instead of a total class point score. I satisfied all of the class’s criteria for an A, and I believe that I most likely was erroneously given a B+ in A.H. due to some confusion over my grade on one of the tests.

So, what is the best and quickest way to get this fixed? I’ve already made a Piazza post to instructors and emailed my professors, but I’ve gotten no response yet and am getting frustrated because I don’t want to be worrying about this grade over the holidays. Do I just keep waiting? Do I send more messages? Should I contact VAC or someone else? Also, how long after the quarter can profs make changes to grades?

Thanks in advance; I really appreciate any advice y’all have πŸ‘

[Academic] Ethical Decision Making in Students (students in grades 5-12, residents of the US, any ethnicity)

Hello everybody,

I am doing a research project on the ability of students (in the United States) to make ethical decisions. More specifically, I am investigating the relationship between grade level and ethics. I need any students between the grade levels of 5 through 12 to participate!

Survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdeq39pGq3JgMZ9HtXIlJyrUYLq96t5oxbwZIjPUwtlG772AA/viewform?usp=sf_link

There will be a few questions about yourself (grade level, gender, and ethnicity) in the beginning, followed by five scenarios in which you will decide between two choices, and then a few questions about your opinion regarding ethics and the survey.

The main purpose of this study is to see whether students in the U.S. are able to make ethical decisions despite the current lack of ethics classes in our schools.

Thank you so much for your time!

Changes to grading / withdrawal policy for 2020-2021 academic year

Dear students and faculty,

As we begin our fall semester, I'd like to provide you with some important information regarding undergraduate course grading policies for the Ann Arbor campus.

For the fall and winter semesters, all undergraduate courses will use a modified version of traditional grading in which the regular A-C grading system is maintained but students who earn D or E grades will receive a "No Record Covid (NRC)." Students receiving a NRC will be able to request that it be converted to a letter grade.

We will also institute a more flexible withdrawal policy, allowing students to withdraw from a course at any time up until the end of classes and not have the course appear on their transcript.

We are making these changes with the understanding that the COVID-19 pandemic is creating inequitable circumstances for students to pursue their coursework and demonstrate their learning. We know that many students are managing very challenging personal situations as they work toward earning their degree.

Our hope is that these changes will help to support the well-being and success of learners and faculty members alike while meeting the university's mission, maintaining the academic integrity of our programs, and staying true to our values.

We plan to share additional information regarding graduate and professional coursework grading policies next week. Remember that campusblueprint.umich.edu is our hub for all information and updates on the university's response to the pandemic.

I wish you all the best of luck this semester, no matter where you choose to study. Please take good care of yourselves and look out for one another.

Sincerely,

Susan M. Collins Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Venting about Academic underachievement and grade deflation in Tunisia

This isn’t the community for this kind of post but I need to vent anyways. To make a long story short, I used to be a great student in high school (and the bac I guess where I scored 18.5 in 2017). Unfortunately, all that amounted to was an entry ticket to the β€œbest” (LOL) prepa in the country (ip*st), and a severe incorrigible case of imposter syndrome which culminated in me underachieving where it mattered (the international concours), but miraculously pulling through in the national exam (I ranked in the 80’s in 2019, at the risk of sounding like a pretentious shit, I considered that a halfway failure).

I thought things would get better when I enrolled in Engineering School. I started getting treatment for depression (which meant i popped pills and walked on a cloud 24/7). Sounds like I’m making excuses for myself (and I am) because my performance in Engineering school was just… so… average. Not bad, outright. Just average (I could pull a cumulative 14/20 for all 7 semesters and final thesis).

Master’s abroad (say Germany) have strict minimum entry requirements. Requirements, that I am afraid, might not be able to fulfill. It’s just so maddening. I could have gotten into a prestigious uni abroad from the get go with my pre-uni credentials (regardless of the optics of my depressive personality), and now I have nothing but the flimsy claim of some untapped potential.

Feels like I wasted a good 5 years of my existence. I loathed most of my courses (linked with telecom) in uni save for a few. Even now, Im not even sure I like AI/ML or programming in general. I do love problem solving. Physics was a joy in prepa. The perfect balance of not too abstract (Maths) theories.

I do blame myself. I also blame the absolute fucking state of University administrations. Not a single word of guidance or counsel. Students will fend for themselves. Professors will force you to attend their mind numbingly boring lectures but won’t deign to compensate you with references. Uni students are akin to school children or cattle.

Sorry for the rant.
