Stage Breakdown
Hello everyone, and welcome to the last stage of the first week of this year's Tour de France. For this stage, we dive deeper into the Alps and in Savoie. the first climb of the day comes after 15 kms or so, it's a famous Côte de Domancy, known for the impressive performance of Bernard Hinault in the Sallanches worlds 41 years ago. We continue towards Megève, in similar roads that saw Thibault Pinot go mental in the final stage last year's Dauphiné. We go then onto the often used Col des Saisies before heading into the once again usual Col du Pré-Cormet de Roseland combo.
After the descent, we stay in the valle for 10 kilometers or so before starting the climb towards Tignes, a long one but easy. Tignes was supposed to have the finish of the hailstorm stage in 2019 but that was not possible due to that landslide on the road (and also that hailsea on the road).
With that in mind here are our predictions:
★★★★★★★★★★ Tadej Pogacar
★★★ Bahrain Victorious Rider (more seriously, top Breakaway riders, so a lot of them)
★★ Carapaz
★ Lutsenko, Uran
Well, it's pretty simple, from what we've seen today, nobody but Pogacar wins from the peloton unless Pogacar says so. So you have 22 teams looking to make the breakaway. Even guys from the top 10 will probably already try to make the break. So it does seem more likely than anything that the break will win. The only reason someone other than UAE tries to chase would be to protect a GC spot, which would be, let's be honest, pretty sad at this point.
Carapaz does seem like the strongest man in the rest of the peloton, Uran and Lutsenko are listed because they are decent sprinters.
That's it for us, what is your prediction for the stage?

Stage Breakdown
Hello and welcome everyone, for the 8th stage of the Tour de France and finally the mountains!!
We start in the Ain département, heavely featured on last year's route and we go towards the nothern Alps and the département of Haute Savoie for the majority of the stage. The main attraction of the stage is the duo Romme Colombière, featured twice in recent years in the Tour. In 2009 it was featured at the end of the Alps, right before the famous Annecy ITT, where Contador had done a crazy performance. The Duo Romme Colombière then featured moves by Andy Schleck and most notably Contador with the moved that condemmed Lance Armstrong and put Bruyneel in a notorious rage.
In 2018 a grand total of nothing happened, in a configuration similar to today, as a massif opener and first mountain stage of the Tour. However the big difference was that we had the Plateau des Glières, that some riders potentially feared, early on in the stage. Here we barely have any mountain before before the finally of the stage. A change has been made to that standard finale tho. Before the Col de Romme, a new climb was added, the Côte de Mont-Saxonnex, a fairly short ascent but with an high average %, 8.3 to be exact. with little valley going toward the Romme Colombière combination. As usual afterthe Colombière, we head down to Le Grand Bornand.
With that in mind here are our predictions:
★★★ Potential top breakaway riders ( Bilbao, Valverde, Teuns, Izagirre)
★★ Pogacar, Carapaz, Uran
★ Alaphilippe, Lutsenko, Mas, Fuglsang
SO as for the stage, 2 scenarios possible. Like 2018, which seems more likely considering the way the stage is put, first mountain stages tend to be a little dull and uninteresting. But, the open weakness shown on UAE's part today, the fact that we just did a 250km stage which was raced arguably pretty hard and the level shown by Carapaz could point

Stage Breakdown
Hello everyone, welcome to the prediction thread for stage 5 of the Tour de France. We finally leave Britanny and we go towards the Mayenne Département, land of Jacky Durand and the Madiot brothers and with that it's TT time. This is the first 1st Week ITT (excluding the first stages) int he Tour de France since 2012 and the win of Bradley Wiggins in Besançon. Here our TT stays in the vincinity of Laval, starting in Changé, which is a nearby town and then we do a lap around the northeast part of the Laval area. This means it is a quite twisty TT, but not so twisty, we often have good protions of 1 straight km then a turn into another portion. it is a fairly good compromise of a TT between the ones that prefer the technical parts and the true powerhouse. The most technical part come within the last 5 kms, when the riders get into Laval, with a lot of tight corners and twists.
With that in mind here are our predictions:
★★★ Kung, Van Aert
★★ Kelderman, Pogacar, Bissegger, Asgreen
★ Thomas, Porte, Castroviejo, Roglic, T.Martin, Scotson, Rutsch, SKA, Campenaerts, Walscheid
A TT this big in a GT this early is unusual, and with this, you can add the fact that a lot of riders crashed, making tis TT even more uncertain. The absence from this Tour de France of multiple specialists like Evenepoel or Ganna is also important to note.
With all these parameters taken into account, our guess for the best riders on this TT are Kung and Van Aert, both TT specialists, no went fairly unscattered in the first stages and should have an edge over the others. As for the 2 stars category you have a mix of specialists like Asgreen, GC riders, all rounders like Alphilippe and Bissegger, who on results alone should be on the top category, but based on the lack of experience in GTs is seemed better to take him down a star. As for the

Stage Breakdown
Hello everyone, and welcome to the prediction thread for the seventh stage of this year's Tour de France. This will be the longest stage in a Tour since the 2000 Tour. This is a stage with a parcours and a lenght more akin to a classic than a GT stage. We start in Vierzon and end i Le Creusot. Le Creusot should be a name every french kid is familiar with as an history case study, as until the industrial revolution it was a small town that then took a sudden turn with the boom of the coal industry with the Schneider family, becoming a much bigger city.
THe first 150 kilometers are mostly flat, it will be in the last 100kms that th stage will get harder, Ardennes-like, with 5 categorised climbs, the main one, the SIgnal d'Uchon with its top at 18.1 kms from the finish DOn't get baited by the average %, that climb has a descent in it, the last 1.7k are above 10% average, with a part at 18% in it. The top of the final climb is placed 8kms before the finish which is not techical but not too easy either. The finishing line is staighr out of a corner, that is important to be noted.
With that in mind here are our predictions:
★★★ Potential top breakaway riders (Cort, Martin, Yates, Woods, Fraile, Izagirre, Herrada)
★★ Pogacar, Alaphilippe, Carapaz, Van der Poel
★ Roglic, Vingegaard, Uran, Gaudu, Higuita, more unlikely breakaway riders.
Very difficult stage to predict. It does seem likely for it to be a break stage, with no team bothering to control and chase over such a long distance. Consideirng that, we put a list of rider who could do well on such a terrain and that are already at least 10 minutes down on the GC (arbitrary line). In case of the peloton, or what will be left of it, coming back, Alaphilippe seems to be the prime favourite.
That's it for us, what is your prediction for the stage?

Stage Breakdown
Hello everyone, welcome to the prediction thread for stage 4 of the Tour de France. Fourth and final day in Britanny, with that we visit the final Département of the Region, which is the Ille-et-Vilaine, the easternmost Département of the Region. As for the stage, we start in Redon, and we go towards the north east to Fourgères. Since the wind will be a headwind for most of the stage, here is my recommendation, take a nap, set up a alarm for 15:30 to wake up for potentially a section of echelons (wind does seem weak for it but you never know).
As for the final sprint, it should be a headwind, a sharp 90° turn right after 3km to go will start the finale, then we are on a curvy road until the flamme rouge and we will have a 90° turn followed by a smoother turn right after then its straight to the finish. It is slightly curvy in the last 50 meters so it will probably be better to be on the right side of the road.
With that in mind here are our predictions:
★★★★★★ La Siesta
★★★ Merlier
★★ Bouhanni, Colbrelli, Bol
★ Philipsen, Sagan, Ballerini, Cavendish, Demare, Matthews, Van der Poel
Few riders went without any scratches on the first sprint stage, which should make a lot of them sore for the sprint in Fougères, but the fact that it is a 150km stage with mostly headwind does help the ones that crashed. Considering this, Alpecin should once again dominate the sprint, Merlier seems like the obvious chance but it wouldn't be a shock to see them give Philipsen a shot. As for the others, hard to say who will be good, but sprinters with a train and who survived the falls should be ahead of the rest, so guys like Bol for example.
It is important to note that in the same approach to this sprint, Cavendish won in 2015.
That's it for us, what is your prediction for the stage?

Stage Breakdown
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Tour de France. It's time for the biggest event of the year for us and the whole cycling world. This year we start in Brest, instead of the originally planned Copenhagen, due to the rescheduling of the European Football Championship. Brest was last seen as a Grand Depart in 2008, in what could be described as a messy year for cycling. The UCI and the race organisers were in open conflict, and the Tour was organised under the banner of the French cyling federation and not the UCI. This allowed ASO to invite whichever team they wanted, and they used that occasion to leave out Astana, with the last winner of the tour, Alberto Contador, staying home. The first stage then finished in Plumelec, historic place of the 1.1 GP de Plumelec and where the 2016 European Cycling championship were held - more about that and the Cote de Cadoudal in tomorrow's preview! While a lot has changed since then, an old man called Alejandro Valverde won that first stage of the 2008 Tour.
This year, the first stage will fully take place in the Département of the Finistère, which is the tip of the Bretagne region. Two professional races take place there. First, we have the Tour du Finistère in the southern part around Quimper which the Tour stage will go across tomorrow. In the northern part there is the Tro-Bro Léon, with its now famous ribinous: farm roads made of dirt and rocks. The Tour will sadly avoid these roads this year.
Onto the stage then, first off we head south, with a scenic road near the sea and in Quimper we go back north. This means the rider will ostensibly face a head wind for most of the second part of the stage. The second part of the profile, while harder than the first part, isn't incredibly challenging. The main difficulty is the sizes of the roads (mostly 2 lanes ones) and the fact that they are always changing directions. This, in the first day of the Tour de F

Stage Breakdown
Hello everyone, I hope you all enjoyed this weekend of cycling and and that your are ready for 3 more weeks of it. Third day in Brittany and with that, third Département that we visit, which is the département of Morbihan, home of Warren Barguil and of the UCI president David Lappartient. We start in Lorient, one of the two major cities of the Département and we go along the coast for the first part of the stage going near the Quiberon Peninsula (really nice place to visit!) and going into Carnac, a place known its massive field of menhirs, those standing stones established by humans thousands of years ago. After that we go inland, where we go through some known places for French Cycling like Grand-Champ which hosted the French championships last year, or Plumelec which we spoke about in the predictions of the first stage. The intermediate sprint comes fairly late in the stage, after 120 km or so.
The finale will be technical, with a descent until 3 km to go. Then we head onto the city with a tight corner after the 3 km mark but it's a little further ahead that it is even harder. While the riders cross the river that goes through Pontivy, they have to take two 90° turns in a very short time on the bridge then once again a 90° corner to get into the finale road at 1500 m to go give or take.
With that in mind here are our predictions:
★★★ Ewan, Démare, Merlier
★★ Cavendish, Sagan, Bol, Colbrelli, Matthews
★ Van Der Poel, Bouhanni, Laporte, Greipel
This stage will be the first for the sprinters, as such, it should be really tense in the finale. Everyone should be there for this sprint. The technical part will thin out the peloton and sanction badly placed rider, who will need to be well placed before the start of the descent to have better guarantees. The sprint train that makes it out of the last corner ahead should be the one of the winner. The list of riders here is fairly simple, it's the list of

Do you feel anxious about your 4 point Velogames pick? Are you losing sleep over your 1.6 RFL multiplier? Then I've got something for you. It's time for the most thrilling game of all: the 2021 Tour de France total finish time prediction thread. Or, if you have trouble remembering that, use the acronym TDFTFTPT.
After last year's tremendous success, the Total Finish Time Prediction Thread is back. In a GT filled with uncertainties (will we make it past rest day 1? how do wind speeds affect the total time? which Slovenian is going to win this race?), /u/Vaaag managed to rise above all and take the inaugural TDFTPTPT title. Earlier this year we saw a thrilling battle for the Giro (GDITFTPT), and now we're back for the best GT of France, the Tour. Enough about that, let's get to what really matters.
The Rules
Predict the total time it takes the GC winner to finish this year's Tour de France
Please denote your answer in hours, minutes, and seconds. So, if I think the Tour will take 14 hours, 36 minutes, and 52 seconds to finish, I write down 14:36:52
Post your prediction in this thread
You can't submit an answer that's already been posted
Submissions are open until the Tour starts (June 26th at 12:30 CEST)
The entry closest to the final time is the winner. In the unlikely event that two entries are the same number of seconds away, the person who's closest without going over the total time wins
FAQ
> What if the Tour gets cancelled halfway through?
We take the leading rider's time when the Tour is over, regardless of where the final finish line is. For example, if the Tour finishes after stage 12, we will use the time it took the leading GC rider to get to that point.
> Are bonification seconds excluded?
No, bonification seconds are included in the final time. These seconds play a part in the GC standings, and thus we will consider them in the final time.
> Do I get something if I win this thing?
Yes, I successfully infiltrated the moderator team and I'm happy to announce that a beautiful stopwatch flair awaits the the winner of the TDFTFTPT 2021.

We are back with everyone's favourite prediction game!
Yes! It's the 2021 Tour de France pet predictions!
After Strade Bianche, Charles became our new Official Prediction Pet, but that doesn't mean your loser animal can't take over the crown!
The basic idea remains the same: get your pet (or farm animal, or garden snail) to predict the winner of the upcoming Tour de France by offering them a set of choices.
As an example we'll show you a lovely Dog named Lima who really needed some time to think about the outcome of this year's Strade Bianche. And still got it wrong.
The rules are simple: Provide your animal an opportunity to choose between 5 given riders and 1 free choice. Document it, and post the picture or video as a comment in this thread.
After hours of discussion within the mod team we've come up with the following mandatory choices:
Next to that you have 1 free choice because maybe you think your pet likes Uran or Rolland better.
So get your birds, sheep, local goats, puppers and kitties ready and let them showcase their psychic abilities!
For the 2019 Tour we had 8 different species weighing in. Let's see if we can beat that!
Registration stops as soon as Mathieu van der Poel is shown in the live broadcast of the first stage.
In case multiple animals correctly predict the outcome of the Tour, they will face each other in another battle of minds before the Olympic road race.
The last pet standing will become our Official Prediction Pet and get that sweet flair that /u/discowhippet currently owns.
Good luck and please support your local shelter!
Stage Winners League – SWL
Our Grand Tours competition is here again for Le Tour de France!
When a race is starting, riders signal specific stages where they'll do their best and try to win and here we try to guess these cases. While in a late medium mountain stage everything can happen and it's hard to get a stage winner correctly, the winner of a time-trial or the first sprint stage seems a bit easier, so don't miss those! To make things harder and since having Pogačar for all mountain stages or Sagan for all sprint stages would be pretty boring, repetitions are not allowed. If you think a rider will get 3 stage wins, pick him for the stage where you are really confident he will win.
Here are the rules:
21 guesses before the start of the race. Rider repetitions are NOT allowed.
1 point per correct guess, otherwise zero.
63 points maximum (21 stages x 3 Grand Tours),
Tiebreaker: secondary classification with 5 points for correct pick, 2 for 2nd place, 1 point for 3rd place.

As we all know, the 2021 TDF starts tomorrow morning (for us in the States. The rest of you don’t matter so you can skip this if you want).
I know we’ve all been masturbating furiously in preparation for the beginning of the most important event in the world. But it’s time to clean the chamois cream off of your junk and buckle in. Most of you poors will be watching from your trainers in front of your sad little 80” TVs. I, however, will be broadcasting live on site as I used my family’s vacation funds to fly to France and bring you live updates of the race and myself enjoying mountains of cocaine and expensive booze with pretty French escorts.
So that you can pretend to be enjoying yourselves as much as I will be, I’ve created a game for you to play along with, because I care about you and I’m here to help.
Below are the rules. The winner is the last Fred standing/alive at the end of the month.
Grand Départ: Yell “BREASTS!” and drink one glass of celebratory wine, preferably a Bordeaux, (a Cab Sav will suffice if you’re afraid of complex, big bodied wines)
Each Stage Start: Snort one line of cocaine.
Crashes: One double single malt scotch, neat, for each rider involved.
Cavendish pushes any rider off a cliff: 2 lines of cocaine.
Pete Sagan wins a stage: One Everest on the trainer.
Spectator hit with bottle: One IPA, minimum 11.9 ABV
Spectator hit by bike: 3 IPAs
Spectator hit by Cavendish: 6 Pints of Lager
Sam Bennett wins a stage: 6 pints of Guinness and punch the man to your left.
Froome wins a stage: drink beer of choice and throw away your disc brakes.
Cat 4 climbs: jerk off enthusiastically until the summit, then do cocaine until the first rider completes his descent.
Mourenx-Libourne flat stage: Nap
All technical failures: scream “Fucking SRAM!!”, drink, and angrily slap the man to your right.
Stage 11 Mt. Ventoux (both times): You should be pretty drunk and coked out by now. Drink one more and tell all your friends how you “could totally do that”.
Tadej wins 3 or more stages: drink one full bottle of Schnapps.
Pete Sagan wins overall: inflate your blow-up doll of Peto and give it a victory pounding while singing the Slovak national anthem.
Full disclosure: this is what I’ll be doing. I don’t expect you to be able to hang with me without dying, but I do expect you to TRY.
Good luck you jerks! Have a happy and victorious TDF!

At 248km, it's the longest TdF stage for 21 years. And if that wasn't enough, there's a lot of elevation going on at the end here. Expect some breakaways to form, and only the thoughest riders of the peloton will be able to catch up. A day like today is perfect for the rouleurs with both endurance and climbing ability - Expect the same names that would be mentioned for the Italian fall classics to come out ahead.

Early breakaway, but probably for the sprinters again. They have to make the best of it today, because tomorrow's ITT is not for them.

Sprint stage! Who's up for the green jersey this year? Can Ewan win enough sprints to make up for the point lost at the intermediates? Can Sagan win again? Is there a life after death? We don't know!

Jun. 27 | 2 | Perros-Guirec > Mûr-de-Bretagne Guerlédan | 182km | Medium | Mûr | 13:10-17:45 CEST |
After a first part allowing to appreciate the wild and unique beauty of the Côte de Granit rose, the course heads inland towards a mouthwatering final section: the double climb up the Côte de Mûr-de-Bretagne will be an unforgiving judge especially because the riders will start the climb almost stopped, without that momentum that the former course had to offer.

Stage Breakdown
Hello everyone, I hope you enjoyed the Time Trial, it's time to go back to the sprints. Here we start in the city of Tours, near the Loire castles. It is a short stage stage towards the Southeast in Châteauroux. It will be a snoozefest. It is pretty much a straight line for 40km until 5kms to go. The finale is a little bit technical but nothing too crazy with 3 90° corners in the last 4 kilometers.
With that in mind here are our predictions:
★★★★★★ La Siesta
★★★ Cavendish, Merlier, Philipsen
★★ Wout Van Aert, Demare, Bouhanni, Bol
★ Pedersen, Matthews, Laporte, Colbrelli, Sagan, Greipel, Van der Poel
Sleep or go do something else please, it will be a more productive use of your time. As for the pronostic. As for the stage, it is likely a Alpecin or a Cavendish win.
That's it for us, what is your prediction for the stage?
The biggest race of the calendar is getting really close!
Le Tour de France starts Saturday, June 26th, and as we did in recent years, we open a Pre-Race Thread with links to previews, fantasy Leagues, interviews, news, our own /r/peloton threads and more.
