A list of puns related to "2020 Dakar Rally"
The change of scenery is dramatic. This time, the special stage is 100% sand, entirely off-road. After a relatively fast first section, obstacle experts will have the advantage in the dunes. Drivers having previously honed their skills in the Sahara Desert will certainly have the upper hand. Then it will be time to rest.

The Audi RS QΒ e-tron, whilst technically a hybrid, represents a big move from a major player in off road racing.
A 50kwh battery running dual motors lifted from Formula E, with a 3rd connecting a 2.0 TFSI ICE powerplant, in a lightweight 4x4, directly competing against full ICE.
Whilst a full EV in a desert with abundant sunshine would still be the ideal, a lack of charging infrastructure at night between stages is still a big obsitcal to overcome.
The Dakar represents a serious test of endurance for both competitors and machinery, and unless this vehicle was real-world tested in total secrecy, it's largely unproven in desert endurance.
That said, Audi has past form with technical revolution: The Audi Quattro was the firstΒ rally carΒ to take advantage of the then-recently changed rules that allowed the use ofΒ 4 wheel driveΒ inΒ competition racing. They dominated, and everyone else followed suit in short order.
The fact they've recruited easily the best two drivers in Stephane Peterhansel and Carlos Sainz (Peterhansel won the Dakar a record 14 times including last year. Sainz, won in 2020.), proves that they're serious, and have deep pockets.
This will be an interesting watch.
Stage 1 is 2nd January 2022.

It's finally Dakar time once again! A new factory effort from Audi with a hybrid buggy, new T1+ regs for the 4WD cars, many rider changes in the factory bike teams, a new truck from Kamaz and the return of De Rooy promise another fascinating edition of the Dakar
With this long stage, the Dakar prepares to enter the βEmpty Quarterβ. The main factor will be driving precision, this time with mainly hard ground and a number of rough portions for those who are not careful enough. On reaching Haradh, built around oil and agriculture, the rally enters a new phase.

The resumption will be the opposite of a rest day⦠the longest stage in the Dakar and also one of the most varied. Dunes are scattered along the entire route and the drivers will have to cross small dune fields of a few kilometres. Between these climbing portions, off-road alternates with sectors with numerous crossings where the navigators will have to be on their toes at all times. Fast⦠but not too fast!

Composure will be a trusted ally on this final stage, where the positions at the top of the classification can still change. The last hundred kilometres will give the navigators just as many headaches as in the previous week. But the finish line is not far! A 20 km special section, with no impact on the general classification, will also select the winner of the βQiddiyah Trophyβ, immediately before climbing onto the final podium.
