TIL that the desk in the Oval Office is called the Resolute Desk, named after the ship it was built out of in 1880. Looking for help finding the father of an Illegitimate child in the 1880s
My 3rd great grandmother, Lilly, never knew who her father was. She was born in 1882 in Pennsylvania and kept her mother’s maiden name. Her mother Mary refused to ever talk about the father and I am told she would get furious and go days without talking to Lilly when asked. This makes me much more curious. I have ancestry and have exhausted all collections, there just isn’t much to go on online back in 1882. I have looked at the census record from 1880 and Mary was still living at home with her father and two brothers at the time, her own mother having died a year earlier. When Lilly was 16, her mother Mary married her step father and died shortly after. She was never able to get any information from her.
On Lilly’s marriage license she wrote “none” under father. I have tried looking at surnames from my DNA, but if I have relatives that share Lilly’s fathers DNA they don’t show up since it would be less than 0.01%.
I have been unable to locate a birth certificate for Lilly, or any other documents that might show more information. My extended family has also been searching and nothing has turned up.
Does anyone have any ideas or other resources that might help me get to the bottom of this? Willing to give names and anything else out if you think you might be able to help me.
My grandmother is 87 years old and is very into her family history. The fact that she doesn’t know who her grandmother’s father is has always bothered her. I would like to find anything I can while I still have time to share it with her, but unfortunately there is no one alive that I know of who would have any idea, so I am going to have to work strictly from old documents.

My stepdad has had this for 40 years or so, no clue about anything about it aside from "possibly from 1880s" according to his dad. The chip in it was from some movers much more recently. Beads are inlaid.
