A list of puns related to "1840 United States presidential election"
And so it begins! The vicious election cycle that happens every four years is upon us once again. Norman Thomas has had a lackluster Presidency overall, can he retake the Presidency or will his popular and well known challengers overthrow him?
President Norman Thomas of New York
Vice President Magnus Johnson of Minnesota
Summary of Norman Thomas' First Term
Norman Thomas of New York, the unexpected 31st President of the USA who unseated Herbert Hoover has had a lack luster Presidency overall. He's begun the encouragement of Domestic Production in the US to help with the Depression, and he states he has "Something major" in the works. This package will presumably involve a more radical New Deal and Civil Rights legislation.
Former Vice President Calvin Coolidge of Massachusetts
Senator Joseph I. France of Delaware
Silent Cal, the Vice President of Hoover and Harding, long seen as the successor to those two, is the nominee for President. He runs on the platform of Laissez-Faire economics and high tariffs, something he is convinced will help with the Depression. He also has stated something involving Civil Rights legislation down the line.
Governor Franklin Delano Roosevelt of New York
Senator J. Hamilton Lewis of Illinois
It was a hard battle, but Roosevelt and the Liberal wing of the Party have won in 1932. While Roosevelt has no plans for any Civil Rights legislation, he has a big agenda he calls the "New Deal" in mind. He is convinced the New Deal is what America needs right now, and he'll fight to get passed until the very end.

The time has come. After four years of a really mixed Presidency by Harding, it is time for the next election cycle.
But first, let's go over the candidates.
REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES:
Secretary of Commerce, Herbert Hoover
Hoover, a long opponent of the corrupt and ineffective Presidency of Harding, made a bid to replace him in 1924. To his own surprise, he won. He is running on a staunch anti-corruption, pro farmer, and pro worker platform. His main goal is to restore faith in Washington, and help the farmer and worker by creating farming and unemployment subsidies, albeit for striking workers only. Hoover was also nominated by the Farmer-Labor Party, which has gained more momentum following Harding's Presidency.
Vice President Calvin Coolidge
The incumbent Vice President has been renominated, much to the dismay of Hoover, who had hoped for his wing of the party's backed candidate, LaGuardia to be nominated. Calvin Coolidge is dedicated to Laissez-Faire Economics, and may even vote against some of Hoover's reforms.
DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES:
Underwood is quite the anomaly. You'd expect a Democrat from Alabama to be very racist, but he is quite the opposite. .A Progressive, Underwood will most likely put in place a lot of Hoover's planned reforms, but would prefer to focus on expanding Civil Rights, mainly taking down what he hated most: The KKK. Citing Grant as his main role model, Underwood plans to take down the KKK as swift as he can. Not only that, but he opposes federal Prohibiton
Also a staunch Progressive, Bryan supports the reforms that are planned under a Underwood or Hoover administration. However, he is mostly focused on Farm subsidies. He also is the brother to the ever popular William Jennings Bryan, and will almost certainly do numbers out west.

Vice President Calvin Coolidge of Massachusetts
The Republican Party was mostly united with its nomination. Hoover and Coolidge represent the two main wings of the Republican Party very well. Hoover is still disappointed with him not getting nominated by the Farmer-Laborers, and will have to compete out west to prevent Electoral Deadlock.
Policy wise, Hoover has promised to take a page out of OTL Coolidge's book: Sit back and enjoy the economic prosperity going on that will totally continue for the rest of the 20s and 30s, maybe pass a few reforms here and there.
Representative Cordell Hull of Tennessee
There are two wildly different complaints against Hoover in the Democratic Party: "He's gone to far," or "He hasn't gone far enough." Al Smith is the perfect middle ground. While not necessarily a Progressive, Smith is no Conservative. However, Smith will probably focus on taking the KKK down and lowering Tariffs. Smith is also an opponent to Prohibition, and some say he'll end it if elected.
Representative Norman Thomas of New York
Senator Magnus Johnson of Minnesota
A new major party, the Farmer-Labor Party, which had nominated Hoover in 1924, is disappointed with Hoover's reforms. They believe he hasn't gone far enough. Norman Thomas, a representative from New York and protΓ©gΓ© of Eugene Debs, challenged Hoover and won. Hopefully, those who still like Hoover will not be inclined to vote for him. Magnus Johnson, the senator from Minnesota, represents the middle ground between the more moderate Roosevelt Progressives and the more extreme Debs Socialists. The Farmer-Labor Party's best bet is disrupti

"What...you're sure about that? We have a source on that? Well folks, we here can officially declare the state of Illinois...for Norman Thomas. Giving him the plurality of the Electoral Vote, and the popular vote."
"How'd this happen?"
"I don't know. All polls predicted a Hoover landslide. Thomas maybe getting like, Wyoming or Colorado."
"Either way, this election will move onto the House of Representatives....wait."
"The Farmer-Labor Party absolutely mopped the floor with the Democrats and Republicans in the midterms."
"Which means that - No."
"There's no way."
Norman Thomas: 31st President of the United States
A few notes. One, yes, I did in fact throw out those Hoover votes. Two, this election is pre 20th amendment, meaning the old congress elects the President. I will have an event that changes this, so in the case of a future Contingent Election, you all can vote for the House in a sort of run off election to decide the victor of the contingent election.
Thank you, I swear I'm not just a Thomas stan.
