I'm not 100% sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but here we go.
I've been teaching myself gothic quadrata because it looks awesome, but I belong to a reenactment society that also covers an earlier period. My local group covers 10th/11th century, so I'd like to learn a more time appropriate script.
I was hoping some one could point me in the right direction. I feel like Carolingian might be to early, and gothic seems a bit late. Though some Carolingian variation seems mostly likely I guess?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The natural habitat of the coconut palm, for the curious. While it's unlikely that the non-migratory African Swallow would have dropped a coconut in 10th Century England, it's conceivable that the Silk Road could have carried coconuts to Europe.

How did "England" in the 9th and 10th centuries successfully adapt Carolingnian reform programs and political practices when it was never part of the Carolingnian "empire"?
Alfred the great purposefully borrowed numerous Carolingnian political and theological practices, such as his biography "Life of Alfred" which is similar to Charlemagne's "Life of Charlemagne". Alfred also tends to lean toward typical hagiography tendencies, such as exaggerating his piety and the effect of his illness on his life, as well as disguising political maneuvers behind a veneer of morality. Alfred also sought intellectuals from the continent, and was extremely well educated for his time. England at this time implemented a tax structure to generate revenues successfully when it was something that even the Carolingnians were unable to do. To be succinct England during the time of Alfred and his successors took numerous Carolingnian ideas and incorporated them into their own political structure. However, by this time in contemporary West Francia and other parts of the former empire these Carolingnian ideas and practices were arguably on the decline and being forgotten slowly over the passage of time. Why and how were the Kings of England able to do this with long lasting effects when others failed? Especially considering these were foreign policies?

In 9th-10th century Europe (England/France Specifically), how likely was a person to be judged based on ethnicity and religion
I was watching The Last Kingdom (the story, while action-packed, seems very shallow, but anyways) and the protagonist is always being distrusted by his superiors and peers for being a Dane/Saxon/Christian/Pagan. This is even after he has time and again proved his skills and loyalty in combat.
So my question is, at a time period when there were a lot of (often violent) contacts between people of different religion and ethnicity, would such labels have followed a person persistently and perpetually make him a semi-outcast despite his accomplishments, in a style similar to racism (you might have done all these great things, but you're black) or classicism (you are and will always be a upstart from the poor and not of nobility) of later times?
