Does anyone know of any yarn stores, yarn dyers, events, fiber artists or the like in Salem? I'm looking to expand who I follow and I love supporting local? As close to Salem as possible, but would consider anywhere in Oregon because a yarn store is always worth the road trip!

My grandma passed away in early 2016 and I was given the remainder of her yarn. I am trying to think of some craft to make for each of my family members (so it must be small) as a small piece of remembrance. I was thinking something like a keychain; something they can have with them at all times if they wish, but I am awful at creativity. It should also be practical and easy to take places preferably.

Any ideas? I'll pick a winner Friday (3/8) night.

Looking for events to attend while on holiday. Would also sightsee while in area, but looking for an event to plan a holiday around.

We just moved to Japan and I would love to visit like the noro factory or other cool places. It's a bit far to just drop in so I was wondering if anyone else has been there or found a cool yarn place in Japan.

I promise to share pictures if I find anything cool!

I'm thinking of finally getting one this year, by which I mean strongly hinting to my SO that they are very exciting.

I have quite a lot of scarves from the sports team I support, and want to connect them all side-by-side to make a nice blanket.

On reddit gifts there is the annual secret santa, but I was wondering if there are some fellow crocheters interested in a secret santa exchange? It would be nice to ship some yarn out, and receive some yarn in return.

How many of us are planning a yarn related new years resolution and will publicly air it to help yourself commit?

Me? This year, I would like to commit to not buying any new yarn for myself, if someone asks for a project, sure, i can buy yarn for that, but none for me. This year, I want to spin my own.

I should try not to buy more fibre, i have plenty, but, i dont think i can honestly commit to that..

I thought I'd share this story here and there is a question below but I though you hookers would appreciate it.

I'm a teacher and school started back up this week. I arrive at school and open my office door to find three christmas gifts on my desk. One is a Christmas themed candle with a nice note from the student, another is a jar filled with the ingredients to make cookies with another nice note. Then there's an envelope with another envelope stuck in it. The envelope didn't have anything written on the front but was with the other gifts. I open the shiny Santa card only to notice there isn't a signature - in face there's no writing in it. That's odd so I explore the smaller envelope stuck in the card which also doesn't have anything written on the front if the envelope. I open the card and it's from the local yarn shop I like to visit when I want to splurge on good yarn. I read it to see my name written, and the amount written is $50!!! I stare at it in disbelief and visions of beautiful squshy yarn goes through my head. Then I'm back to the thought of "who gave this to me?" I asked coworkers if they saw who dropped it off. The only people with keys to my office are the department chairs, and administration. I'd love to think the student and their family but I don't know who they are! There is a number written at the bottom of the card which I'm assuming might correspond to the reciept of who purchased the gift card. I'm going to see if the store owners can look up who purchased the card so I can thank them.

I thought about standing up in class and saying "so the student who gave me this gift card is getting an A!" LOL, but I don't want to embarrass the student (they're all boys and moms clearly buy the Christmas gifts).

So now I have to decide what I want to make (totally something for me!) and then buy amazing and beautiful yarn - this yarn shop sells cashmere yarn just to give you an idea, but I think it'll still be out of my price range. They have so much beautiful yarn! I'll take suggestions!

So I bought 3 skeins of this and am wondering if this is enough to make a decent sized baby blanket? Or do I need to rush back to the store to get 3 more in the same dye lots? (I got Beanstalk, Fairy Tale, and Pixie Dust).
