Voice-over translation of cultural Māori concepts

Hi all,

I am doing my Masters in Translation Studies and one of my translation exercises is a TV show transcript that would be used for both voice-over narration and voice-over translation of interviewees. I will be translating from English into Peninsular Spanish, but the show is about a mentoring programme for Māori youth and includes a lot of terms in te reo māori (the Māori language - I live in New Zealand), many of which do not have direct translations. I have been challenged to figure out how I could maintain the te reo terms in the voice-over translation while also providing explanation of their meaning, bearing in mind that voice-over needs to more-or-less fit more or less the timing of the original speech.

Is someone able to direct me to some examples or resources of how this sort of issue could be approached? I imagine there are examples that combine voice-over translation with explanatory subtitles but I'm struggling to find any.

Thank you!

Which game do you think has the better localisation? (including voice acting, translations of texts) And do you like how some of the names are changed from the Japanese version to the English version?(eg Homura/Hikari > Pyra/Mythra, Hana > Poppi etc.)

Here's today's question! I may not be able to respond a lot because I have a quiz for my calculus course in university (which is hard AF for me). Personally I'm a really big fan of the localisation of xc1 and xc2, I LOVED the voice acting in 1, while I like how they put a lot of effort using different English accents in 2 and also how they changed the characters names from Japanese. Have a nice day and tell me what do you guys think?

Translation of the interview that the seiyuus did with moca-news after finishing the voice overs of the movie

Source

The animated film "Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow" is slated to start screening in 127 theatres across Japan starting from 4 January 2019. As the voice overs has been completed, we've received a group photo as well as some comments from the main cast.

  • Please tell us your thoughts about completing the voice overs for the movie

Inamiγ€€The dubbing process took a long time since it's a movie, but it felt like it's gone by in an instant! As the movie progresses into the second half, I felt warm and lonely in some respects; and my heart was really pounding when I did the recordings for Aqours' songs and their thoughts.

Aida After finally finishing the voice overs for the film, I felt very lonely. However, the girls made their decisions with determination and went forward with strength, so they didn't leave behind any regrets! As for the rest, you will have to see for yourself!

Suwa It's the first time I did the voice overs for a film, so I took on it with a fresh feeling. After Kanan graduated from Uranohoshi, I felt like she's matured a bit as compared to how she was before. Even though she has graduated from high school, she's not yet an adult; and even though she's worried about Chika and the rest, she has no choice but to move forward too. I voiced her with lots of complicated feelings like these in mind.

Komiya Since it's been more than a year since voice overs for the TV series has ended, I was nervous about it. Even in the 1 year without doing voice overs, we've devoted a year to Aqours doing live events and the like, so I feel like these dubbing sessions can show even more of our unity!

Saitou "We are the very first ones to be able to know about their new stories!", "So that's what happened!", "Ehh!!", "No way!!", I've had lots of feelings like these. I did the voice overs full of excitement, wanting to quickly tell Aqours' story to everyone who's been waiting for it. That's why, when we finished the voice overs, although I did feel a little lonely since it's ended, I felt a bit relieved as I let go of my tension building up to it.

Kobayashi It's the long-awaited movie. It was a dubbing process where I could meet the Aqours girls newly coming to live again. When the voice overs for the film, which you could call the culmination of

Looking for: Voice Over Transcript or Subtitled Video of the German translation of the game's heroes.

Hello.

I'm an American Sign Language Interpreting student and I'd like to expose myself to other languages as well to get a feel for what they're like.

You've heard that if you watch cartoons in the B language you're trying to learn that you can pick up vocabulary and sentence structure by proximity? Well... I'd like to pick up some German and I've changed my game to the German audio files.

I want to hear each sentence in German (and see it written if that's at all possible) accompanied by the English translation. In particular, I play a good deal of Azmodan. I'd like to learn idiomatic translations of his dialogue.

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help!

Russian translation and voice-over are worse than usual in BF1

There is one thing I still don't get about Battlefield series. It's russian translation and voice-over.

It was kind of tolerable in BF3. Kind of. Try not to listen to shit they say - and you can play without going mad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJX5gwWKqAM. It's even kind of funny. They hired third-grade voice actors to say meaningless things with heavy accent, mixing english, bad english, russian, bad russian and nonsense at the same time. Russian words are spoken incorrectly, english words are spoken incorrectly, some words are made up and don't exist - and so on. So if you think of it as of language that don't exist - it's ok. Just don't think that they speak russian. They don't.

Then... BF4 is here. And immediately began to expertly suck ass with russian voiceover. How bad you ask? I mean, seriously, let me give you an idea in English how russian voiceover sounds for native speakers. I'll try to keep as close as possible. "Here are your medicines" were translated quite literally, when "medicines" in Russian is "lekarstva", and not "medicines". "Defend objective" sounds in russian like this (in English): Diefienied the objective. "Jet spotted" is... "I see enemy jet". Jet, mothefuckers, they say "JET"! I mean not "istrebitel", not "samolet" - fucking JET. There is NO "jet" in Russian language. BTW, they even pronounce it incorrectly...

And everything in BF4 voiceover sounds like this - stupid, unprofessional, incorrect in every imaginable way. Suka blyat, what the fuck is that? Why, DICE, WHY? And the worst part is that you can hear in their voices - these guys weren't able to find any other jobs, and Dice hired them for a penny. Two at max. For all of them. They can't act for shit. They can't speak russian. They don't have what it takes to sound like people on a war. They never had a weapon in their arms. Those are some trash actors. Fuck it, they don't even actors and never will be.

And now BF1. I mean, really... I watch English trailer and I believe what voice says. He feels it. He means it. And then Russian voiceover. Oh. My. God. They hired guys who don't think of things they say. They think only about if they sound good or not. Campaign voice, Operations voices - someone in DICE did a great job to do really bad job on russian voiceover. They only thing you think when they speak is "SHUT. THE FUCK. UP". It is intolerable. It is awful. It is new level of voiceover shit, because things they say are supposed to be heavy and scary. And they

[For Hire] Narrations and voice overs in 4 different languages. Translation and Transcriptions for Korean and Japanese. Stupid drawings, daily trivia.

Hi, I'm a student in his junior year in high school, and I'm looking to earn some money on the side, for some games I want to buy and things that I want. I work as a narrator in my school, and did narrations for various videos. I can also do voice acting and voice overs. This is the list of my compatible languages:

  • Korean
  • Japanese
  • English
  • Mandarin

I'll be charging $3 for every 5 minutes of voice overs.

I can also do transcriptions and translations of Korean and Japanese. I have experience in subbing anime and making karaoke tracks in Japanese, and I'm a native Korean. I also subbed popular Korean shows in both English and Japanese for my school friends. You can trust my English, as I've been speaking it pretty much my entire life.

I'm gonna charge 5 cents per word for the translation and transcription, as that seems to be the norm.

I can also draw extremely shitty stickman 4-cut comic strips for 50 cents each.

If for some reason, you're not interested in any of those, for $2.5 a week, I'll be sending daily trivia info that you may or may not have known.

Here is my bitcoin address: 1Ndk3arub1vqSnSGoCaidz8VhokKsPDd9G

I would also love donations, if you would be willing to provide me with some.

Hope to get some business with you guys!
