ACS November-18-2020: Dr. Drew, Vinnie Tortorich, and Art Bell

Adam begins today’s podcast with bad news that his upcoming vintage car race has been cancelled, despite just spending a bunch of time and money on getting his car prepped. The guys then take listener calls about potential voter fraud, COVID-sniffing dogs, and another round of quarantine hypocrisy. Adam also tells Bryan and Gina about a F.C.H.D. call he took on The Adam and Dr. Drew Show. Dr. Drew then joins the studio to talk about possible COVID-19 vaccines, and to help a caller whose daughter recently overdosed. Later, Vinnie Tortorich is on the line to chat about olive oil vs. butter for eggs, guys who wear too much deodorant, and why we should all enjoy the holidays without worry. Before the break, Adam and Vinnie takes some NSNG-related calls.

Art Bell is on the line at the top of Part 2 of today’s podcast. The guys discuss the origins of The Comedy Channel, later Comedy Central. They also talk about some of the early hit shows, and then jump forward to how Art ultimately left the network. Adam then shows off a Comedy Central Cookie Jar, and the guys discuss the current state of the network. Later, Art talks about his time working at HBO, as well as the success of the Comedy Central Roasts. In the last part of the podcast, Gina reads news stories about Dolly Parton’s donation to the COVID-19 vaccine, Conan O’Brien taking his show to HBO Max, a bareknuckle boxing knockout going viral, people in France throwing their kids over the gates to attend school, and a Belgian Racing Pigeon sold for $1.9 million.

Week 16 - 2021 Consolidated Start 'Em, Sit 'Em (FantasyPros, CBS, NFL, Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, Bleacher Report) - Bah Humbug Edition

I would wish you all a Merry Christmas, but unfortunately 7 reindeer and 26 Tier 3 elves have been placed on the you-know-what list, prompting Roger Goodell to postpone the holiday. Santa is appealing the delay, claiming to be fully β€œimmunized.”

If you’re reading this maybe you too are in desperate need of a Christmas miracle this week. One silver lining coming out of the abomination that was Week 15 is that waivers got pushed to tonight in most leagues, giving us a rare chance to peep these Starts and Sits before submitting claims.

We’re fresh out of Elijah Missile-toe and holiday Smooches are off the menu. There’s a Bell jingling in Tampa Bay, but everyone hoping to wake up to RoJo in their stocking would prefer a silent night. If us Eagles D stashers have been really good can we finally get a pick six delivered by a one-horse open Slay?

It’s been an honor to help bring you this homegrown, staple, and signature resource of the subreddit this year. Hope I didn’t fuck it up too bad this week using a guest computer on the road. Wishing you great holidays, healthy studs, and sweet victory.

If/when the Jaguars pick first again in 2022, they will join the Buccaneers, Browns, and Bengals as the only superbowl era franchises to have consecutive years picking first.

The Bucs did it twice 1976-77 (76 being their expansion year), their picks were Lee Roy Selmon and Ricky Bell and again in 1986-87 and drafted Bo Jackson and Vinny Testaverde.

The Browns did it in 1999-2000 and selected Tim Couch and Courtney Brown and most recently in 2017-18 and selected Myles Garret and Baker Mayfield.

Bengals held the 1st pick in 1994-95 selected Dan Wilkinson and Ki-Jana Carter

Prior to superbowl era the Eagles in 1936-37, Chicago Cardinals selected #1 in 1939-40

The Colts and the Rams are tied for the most #1 selections all time at 7 a piece

Dropped my best ever dad joke & no one was around to hear it

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies πŸ˜‚

These aren't dad jokes...

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

[OC] What would all-time rosters look like if everyone went home like LeBron in 2015?

TL;DR

Made all-time hometown rosters with original 30 NBA teams + 25 new teams to split populated areas and big teams (spreadsheet + map)

Player Pool and Team Pool

I used the top 969 players who have at least 10000 minutes played in their career.

Why 10000 minutes played? Because that's the lower standard set by Basketball-Reference to get on their ABA career leaderboard (15000 MP for NBA). I added George Mikan, because even though he hasn't played enough minutes, he's featured in All-Time ESPN NBARank and Bill Simmons Hall of Fame Pyramid.

I started off with the current 30 teams. To split up the Lakers and Clippers, I gave the Clippers their proposed Inglewood site.

As I looked at the map of player hometowns, I realized that there were:

  • some areas that had a lot of players, but few close NBA teams
  • some areas that had bloated rosters with too many players

Based off city population and arena size, I added 25 new teams.

  • I obviously had to give Seattle their team back
  • Birmingham, North Little Rock and Shreveport helped to split up the South
  • Pittsburgh and St. Louis were big cities without teams
  • Berkeley added to siphon off San Francisco
    • if I add Oakland, it takes away too many players
  • Anaheim and Westwood added in Southern California (Clippers & Lakers)
  • Winston-Salem and Raleigh to pare down Charlotte
  • Lansing to prune Detroit
  • 2nd Atlanta team in suburb of College Park
  • 2nd Washington team and Baltimore
  • 2 more teams in Chicago (Rosemont and South Side) + a team in Gary
  • 2nd Indiana team + Louisville & Lexington
  • 2nd Philadelphia team in suburb of Wynnewood
  • 3 more teams in the New York Area (Newark, Queens and Long Island)

The Method

I started off gathering hometowns due to this fantastic database by Reuben Fischer-Baum ([original article source here](https://deadspin.com/infographics-where-do-pro-basketball-players-come-from-5132615
