A list of puns related to "Tom Barnaby"
An Interview with Sir Tom Barnaby, Leader of Coalition!
By Herald Staff Writer, Crystal Opus
Sir TomBarnaby is all smiles as he meets me for this interview in the capacious and airy lobby of Portcullis House. Itโs the end of a busy week, but after intensely scanning the drinks menu, he opted for a flat white. โNeed to keep my wits about meโ he said with a wry grin. โAfter this I have a meeting with my constituency association. Terrifying people!.โ
This relaxed and relatable side of the newest Coalition! leader is one that is very different from the fierce debater who is seen in the House of Commons. Since his debut on the political scene, Sir Tom has been at the very front of many metaphorical front lines, and has certainly not shied away from responsibility or the limelight. He is seen by at least some of his peers as a worthy opponent, and has become particularly well known for his vast vocabulary and eloquent speeches. As I begin the interview, he is relaxed and even mischievous, but when the topic of conversation moves onto his party, a fire ignites in his eyes.
In this candid interview, Sir Tom opens up about his political regrets, his dreams for the future of Coalition!, and the ongoing balancing act between being the amicable parliamentarian who wants to get along with everyone and the leader of a party that isnโt afraid to make waves on the political scene.
Crystal Opus: What's a typical day like for the leader of Coalition!?
Tom Barnaby: A pleasure! I wake up, I'll do everything everyone else does. When I'm all fresh and ready, I'll check to see if my deputy or chief whip or so one has messaged me, I'll see what business is scheduled for Parliament that day and prepare for it. Whether it be a debate on a bill, or if I'm up in PMQs. Then I'll probably have some coordination to do with my fellow party leaders. Every now and then I'll give a spokesperson a nudge, or help a newer member out with something. Sometimes I'll write an op-ed. I'm sure all party leaders in Westminster, former and current, recognise the routine.

I just watched The Black Book, with Susannah Harker, about the art school and the Hogson paintings. Anyone else keep track of the number of times Barnaby asks an unnecessary, nosy question about the sex lives of the witnesses? I love it when the witnesses call him on it and tell him it's none of his business. And for an experienced cop, he seems so surprised and disapproving of everything. He's like a walking tower of "Ick."
And I love how many episodes about art slip in nudity, to show us how embarrassed Barnaby and his Sergeant are.

Deputy Speaker,
It is a great relief to be introducing this motion today, calling for our brave nuclear test veterans to finally receive the recognition they deserve for the enormous contributions they made to this countryโs national security in the middle of the last century.
It is obvious to anyone who can perceive basic realities and who recognises the relative peace we have enjoyed since the end of the Second World War that the nuclear tests of the 1950s and 60s, and the nuclear deterrents they gave birth to, have bought us perhaps the longest period of peace, safety and stability in history.
It is only right that the courage and sense of duty shown by those who made that happen, who have given us invaluable security and no doubt avoided war and bloodshed, are properly recognised and commemorated.
It is time we did as other former and current nuclear powers do, and finally honour our nuclear test veterans with a long overdue and eminently well-deserved medal. I hope colleagues across the House will join me in righting this

Deputy speaker, this is in response to the motion co-authored by the duke Tommy2Boys and dame SapphireWork last term. It uses the powers bestowed upon the government by the Terrorism Act 2000 to amend schedule 1, the list of proscribed organisations, and thereby proscribing the Proud Boys. It further plays catch-up on proscribing further organisations that plausibly should have been already.
Opening Speech: Tommy2Boys
Deputy Speaker
I am pleased to have worked with Her Majestyโs Government in acting on the wishes of this House in proscribing the Proud Boys as a terrorist organisation. We all watched in horror last year when the Capitol Building was subject to an insurrection โ led in a large part by the Proud Boys โ in one of the most shocking assaults on democracy I can recall. I would like to thank the government for cooperating with me on this matter and I am confident that the United Kingdom will be a safer and more tolerant place as a result of this joint action.
Opening Speech: SapphireWork
Deputy Speaker,
I am delighted that Her Majestyโs government has seen fit to follow up on a motion, which was successfully passed earlier this year, to proscribe the Proud Boys as a terrorist organisation. I co-authored this motion with my good friend, the Duke of Aberdeen, in response to the actions of our allied nations, which have also declared this group to be a terrorist organisation.
The Proud Boys are a group that gained notoriety earlier this year with the insurrection on the Capital Building of the United States, yet this was merely one of many examples of targeted violence, thinly veiled under the guise of civil disobedience, that are associated with the Proud Boys. This is an organisation that is founded on the principles of hatred, racism, and misogyny.

This House recognises:
(1) The rule of law is an indispensable component of democracy.
(2) In the United Kingdom, individual judges and the judiciary as a whole are impartial, independent of all external influences and pressures, and make rulings only on the basis of evidence and the law.
(3) In order for our independent judiciary to properly discharge its duty and uphold the rule of law, it must be able to make rulings and hear cases without coming under pressure or threats from the executive or legislature.
This House therefore urges:
(1) All members to respect the independence of the judiciary in their words and actions, through both their discourse in this House and in the press and broadcast media.
(2) Members to respect and uphold the rulings of the judiciary in light of them being politically impartial experts, and their judgements forming the basis of the rule of law in this country.
(3) Members to commit to not weakening, eroding or fundamentally altering the powers and functions of the judiciary, in return for respecting its independence and not exploiting the legal process for mischievous or vexatious political ends.
This motion was written by The Rt Hon Sir TomBarnaby KG GCB GCMG CT LVO MBE MP on behalf of Coalition! and model-kyosanto MP, Deputy Prime Minister, on behalf of the Labour Party.
Opening speech by Sir TomBarnaby:
Speaker,
I am pleased, after recent events, to be able to bring forward this cross-party motion, which spans the width of the House of Commons, reaffirming the Houseโs commitment to Britainโs historically independent judiciary.
Whatever ructions may take place in the press, I am sure that all right honourable and honourable Members will be able to commit, both in their speech on the floor of this House and in the division lobbies, to uphold and defend our judges.
Just as the Lord Chancellor takes a solemn oath always to defend the independence of the judiciary, so should Members, today, make such an undertaking.
Speaker, I am certain that every Member today is proud to live in a democracy. And as the motion declares, the rule of law is a vital foundation of that democracy. While we may make the law, it is the judges and the Supreme Court that interpret and protect this Houseโs decisions and legislative outputs. Opening speech by The Rt Hon Sir TomBarnaby KG GCB GCMG CT LVO MBE MP
Speaker,
I beg to move "That this House has no confidence in the secretary of state for transport." My reasons for doing so are plain and straightforward and surely not disagreeable to any of the right honourable and honourable members in this House who respect and cherish our parliamentary and governmental practices and want their own votes to count for something when the division bell rings.
The transport secretary, /u/SomeBritishDude, first violated the enduring principle of cabinet collective responsibility (CCR) in relation to HS3 34 days ago, at the government despatch box I am looking at as I speak when they called the project "impossible". Let me be clear; they were describing, in saying this, the express policy of the government in which they serve as something they would not implement and did not think it possible to implement.
The principle of CCR is one of the most sacrosanct conventions in British politics. That we have a secretary of state actively defying the government's policy, implicitly and explicitly criticising ministerial colleagues, and reneging on the coalition document that is the foundation for the smooth and stable government of this country, is an outrage.
It is almost as outrageous as a secretary of state seemingly taking pride in defying what I would say is the most important principle in the constitution of this country: parliamentary sovereignty. The transport secretary caveated their wish not to "go against the wishes of Parliament" with a "but". The wishes of Parliament are absolute and must be respected by ministers.
While the motion was, of course, not binding, despite its 104-2 mandate, members across the House should be convinced that the secretary of state's position is not tenable purely on the basis of an overt violation of CCR. Accusing "colleagues in cabinet" of supporting "irrational decisions" while addressing this House is totally unprecedented in th

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
This is the first time that I have felt truly invested in the devolved elections, primarily when it comes to Holyrood, which took me by surprise as someone who joined MHoC years ago for the Westminster bubble before the devolved Parliaments existed - and I mostly put that down to the exquisite atmosphere of excitement within Coalition! over the last few weeks - through planning our strategy, putting together a winning team, and getting out there; writing and putting out posts over the last few days.
Perhaps I went overboard by writing just over 5,000 words on my campaign and visit posts - but I havenโt written that much in a day, outside of work, since University. Again, it didnโt feel like a chore, and I would say thatโs because the immense positivity put out by CountBrandenburg, Tommy2Boys, SapphireWork, and of course by our party leader TomBarnaby - a winning team with a winning formula.
These devolved elections have been really interesting for Coalition! and particularly for New Britain - by our numbers we put out the most campaign posts, with the Lib Dems coming in second, but thatโs not the fascinating part - we have seen the almost complete collapse of the Conservative Party in Scotland, with only one candidate campaigning with only three posts across the whole of Scotland. There was a similar picture in Wales too - and this begs the question, are the Conservatives phasing back their focus on the devolved elections to put their efforts primarily into Westminister? And are they doing this because they donโt have the members to do both, or is it part of a wider strategy to centralise? With their polling falling, and C! now biting at their heels for the place of second largest party, maybe they decided that it just wasnโt worth the effort.
In Scotland, with the exception of the foreword, the Conservatives didnโt even write their own manifesto - stealing the words and policies from the real Scottish Conservative manifesto. Perhaps they thought no one would notice, but we did. I am genuinely interested to understand why, and would appreciate either EruditeFellow or Chi addressing this point - as no one did in the manifesto or leadership debates.
It was a similarly damning picture for the Scottish Nationalist Party - they too didnโt write a new manifesto; instead copy and pasting large swathes of their manifesto from 6 months ago. Perhaps they thought, as they havenโt gotten much done since then despite being in administration, but it doesnโt look goo

Following the passage of the bill I authored urging the government to legislate for a bank holiday to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of our sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I took it upon myself to make the necessary arrangements. This very simple legislation simply translates the expressed will of Parliament and the nation onto the statute books, allowing the citizens of this country to join together in a day of revelry, pageantry, celebration and thanks for the extraordinary services given by Her Majesty Queen over her 7 decades on the throne. It will be a well-earned holiday for hard-working Britons from Skye to Southampton, Caerphilly to Coleraine, and a time for everyone to come together and, ultimately, have a good time. I commend this bill to the House, and I trust honourable and right honourable members will vote in favour of it.

... keep reading on reddit โกThe rule of law is perhaps the most fundamental requirement of any civilised democracy. One of the key pillars of democracy, in turn, is the independence of the judiciary. It is of critical importance that judges and the judiciary as a whole function without fear or favour so that they deliver judgements and justice according to the law and nothing else.
In a democracy such as ours, these judgements do not always work in the favour of the government of the day. Nevertheless, the rulings made by the judiciary must be upheld and respected by politicians, and whatever outcomes are delivered, the integrity of our judges must not be impugned, and their independent future must not be threatened.
That is why we were appalled, not to mention incredibly concerned, by the threats the chief secretary to the Treasury made in the media last night. Making vague and veiled threats about the independence and the future of the UK Supreme Court is totally unacceptable, extremely sinister, and without precedent in British democratic history.
What is even more alarming is that the Supreme Court has yet to deliver a ruling on the devaluation case. The justices of the Supreme Court simply agreed, on the basis of their expertise and impartiality, that there was a case to be heard. If this is the reaction of a government minister, with the backing of the prime minister himself, to judges allowing people to merely make their case, what are we to expect if and when cases do not go the governmentโs way - will threats come to fruition? Where does this leave our democracy?
The government must now either confirm that the ministerโs threats to the Supreme Court represent official government policy, or he must be dismissed. In any event, the prime minister must apologise for questioning the integrity and professionalism of the Supreme Court and for his ministerโs same sentiments, and should consider his own future. The confidence of the government hangs in the balance.

Whew, what a night.
Six months ago, if youโd said Iโd be waiting with baited breath, hoping to see the Scottish Liberal Democrats come first in the Scottish Election, Iโd probably have laughed at you. After all, I was just leaving the civil service, and had shortly after been confirmed as the leader of Forward. Surely, Iโd ask you, I would be looking for Forward to gain a few seats? I still believe it is likely that I would have had at least two or three to play with, and I guess I can probably say now that Iโd be looking into establishing a unity style government led by myself - a project of ego, maybe, especially if the results were more or less identical to what we saw tonight - but I nevertheless believe that I could have made it work.
I went into this election feeling confident that weโd retain our plurality, and we did (albeit it was a rather rocky road to it), though we didnโt see as big a gain from our pre-election polling as I may have otherwise hoped, but the increase is nevertheless welcome.
We started off the results by seeing our dear leader, Comped, dominate in Highlands and Islands, taking five seats and firmly establishing a plurality. New Britain, as was expected, was dancing on our heels with their three - I would be lying if I said this didnโt concern me somewhat, but being expected and being concerning are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Weebru ran a solid campaign, and Comped had the benefit of being a party leader with his rather eccentric campaign - I trusted his plan nevertheless, and obviously it delivered. The SNP getting two seats was similarly expected - after all, their activity during the term had been meh and always been a bit up and down, and this result reflected that, though from what I remember the local campaign was not that bad, they just suffered from factors outside of their control. The Scottish Tories were also as expected - no campaign, plagiarism scandals, and a lack of debate were always going to combine in the worst way, so to see them get one seat here was rather surprising. What was as surprising was seeing the Scottish Progressive candidate get double the Toryโs percent and yet still only have one seat - but, then, I canโt remember even hearing of their candidate before.
Then onto Lower Strathclyde - ouch. Four seats, donโt get me wrong, is still decent, especially in a seat where the Tories actually campaigned (congratulations Chi), but given that weโd somehow accidentally ended up with the most post

BE IT ENACTED by the Queenโs most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:โ
1. Repeals
(a) The Direct Democracy Act 2020 is repealed in its entirety.
2. Commencement, Short Title and Extent
(1) This Act shall extend to the whole United Kingdom.
(2) This Act shall come into force immediately upon Royal Assent.
(3) This Act may be cited as the Direct Democracy (Repeal) Act.
This bill was written by Sir /u/model-mili and Sir /u/TomBarnaby on behalf of Coalition!
Opening Speech
Mr Deputy Speaker,
Under the Direct Democracy Act, a legally-binding referendum can be triggered simply by a group of people getting together and signing a piece of paper. Surely, Speaker, the threshold for an exercise such as a referendum must be much higher in a representative democracy like ours?
I do not need to give a long-winded job description to colleagues about what it is we are sent here to do, but constituents elect us to make decisions on their behalf. And, while referendums can be appropriate in extenuating circumstances, the Direct Democracy Act opens them up as a course of action in any instance in which the rather loose requirements are met.
That is an abdication of our responsibility as elected representatives, and a warping of our parliamentary democracy. Hence this repeal, Mr Speaker.
This Reading ends at 10pm on 26 November, 2021.
I have always been a bargain shopper.
You know, Buy One Get One Free, 75% Off, and Hell, my ex-girlfriend used to tell everyone that my middle name was โClearanceโ, because I would, and still do, hit the Clearance rack every chance I get.
My friends call me โCheap!โ
But, the people at the discount stores love me. I keep them in business.
I also hit as many actual yard sales, on the weekends, that I possibly can, if it doesnโt interfere with my work schedule.
You see, It all started at the tender age of 15, when my stepmother, God Rest her soul, introduced me to the wonderful world of Goodwill and Salvation Army.
Theyโre basically big Yard Sale stores, and itโs always hit or miss!
I mean, sometimes you find some really good stuff in there, but sometimes, Itโs just crap.
Now, 95% of the time, I buy things that are, โMarked Down For Quick Saleโ, โUsedโ, or slightly damaged.
The place I just moved out of, I furnished that whole entire place with used furniture I bought at โTobyโs Discount Furniture.โ
It cost me less than $200 to do so.
It was a mobile home that I bought used as well, in case you were wondering.
I recently found several Facebook pages, that give stuff away for free.
โUsedโ and โFreeโ are my two favorite words. I like โFreeโ better though.
Now, although I am a โbargain shopperโ, there are a few things I WILL NOT buy used... socks and underwear are number one on the list.
I mean, used underwear? Yuck!Thatโs just gross.
Letโs see... Um! Shoes! I donโt want anybodyโs foot fungus.
Then thereโs... Mattresses and Box Springs! Who knows what kind of, well, excretions, you would find on a used mattress, and besides, Bed Bugs are not meant to be kept as pets. No!
There are a few other things as well.
Anyway, I buy all my toiletries new.
You know, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, razors, things like that.
My car is used.
My clothes are used, well, except the items I stated earlier.
My furniture is used.
And the house I just bought a few days ago was not only used, but it was listed at an extremely low price.
Which leads me to my story.
After seven years of busting my hump, doing everything that I possibly could, to prove to the funeral director that I had what it took to be his assistant.
I finally got promoted, after the old assistant moved to Hollywood to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a Boom Operator.
You know, the guy that holds the microphone above the actors heads.

I donโt get much news of him over here on this side of the pond, but are there any plans for him to come back for a one-off special, or does he have any other projects in the works?

We all watched inย horror last year when the Capitol Building was subject to an insurrectionย โ led in a large part by the Proud Boys โ in one of the most shocking assaults on democracy I can recall.
ย I co-authored this motion with my good friend, the Duke of Aberdeen, in response to the actions of our allied nations, which have also declared this group to be a terrorist organisation.
The Proud Boys are a group that gained notoriety earlier this year with the insurrectionย on the Capital Building of the United States, yet this was merely one of many examples of targeted violence, thinly veiled under the guise of civil disobedience, that are associated with the Proud Boys. ย This is an organisation that is founded on the principles of ย hatred, racism, and misogyny.
I too wish to thank the Government for taking action on this, and in sending a message that we wil

That this House has no confidence in the secretary of state for transport.
This motion was written by The Rt Hon Sir /u/TomBarnaby KG GCB GCMG CT LVO MBE MP and The Rt. Hon. Sir /u/Chi0121 KT CT KBE LVO MP, on behalf of Coalition! and the Conservative and Unionist Party. It is co-sponsored by the Liberal Democrats.
Accusing "colleagues in cabinet" of supporting "irrational decisions" while addressing this House is totally unprecedented in the history of British politics and cannot be allowed to stand. It is, quite frankly, a recipe for ch
