Hey all! I'm back again with another big vermouth-focused cocktail tasting and comparison, this time for the Scofflaw!
Scofflaw
1.5 oz Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey
1 oz Noilly Prat Original Dry Vermouth
.5 oz Lemon Juice
.5 oz Grenadine
1 dash Regan's Orange Bitters
Last year's r/cocktails advent calendar (thanks u/robborow) introduced lots of new folks to this Parisian classic where it was mostly met with a universal "Meh" as this drink tends to do even at the bars I've worked at.
In the past I've maintained the only truly great version of this cocktail was made with Noilly Prat Original Dry which outperformed over a dozen other dry and extra dry vermouths in a tasting I performed a couple years back. Unfortunately, the recent changes to Noilly Prat's Original Dry formula no longer make the perfect Scofflaw it once did.
So obviously I had to write a 12 page breakdown where I cracked this one open to fix it once and for all. Ten different vermouths across a range of styles, two different rye whiskies, a few attempts at rejiggering the spec, and 50-ish Scofflaws later, I'm fairly confident I've created a fairly comprehensive guide on how to improve this seemingly disjointed whiskey sour. Check it out!
I'm curious to see what y'all think. I'm hoping a few of you out there are inspired to do a little comparison of your own and report back!
#5 Laws of Posting in CaliforniaTicketHelp
As a public service, this subreddit offers the most high quality advice of any open source on the internet for dealing with California traffic tickets. We want to help! As a result we have some very specific rules:
First, read the 12-step Guide to Fighting a Ticket in California and confirm that you have read it in your post! If you want us to spend our time helping you, you've got to spend time helping yourself!
You must always include the California Vehicle Code or Municipal Code section and county in the title of your post. For Example: "CVC 22350, Los Angeles County, 50mph in a 40" Without all this information, you cannot be helped and your post is likely to be deleted.
Include a (redacted) photo of your ticket. Take a photo of your full ticket, from top to bottom, black out lines 2-11 (your personal information) as well as your signature and upload to imgur. Include the link in the text of your post. Like this: https://imgur.com/Bh2wblH This is going to help you in ways you may not even realize. Exceptions can be made for traffic school-only questions, or issues where the ticket is completely irrelevant. We'll use our discretion.
You must post updates (even boring or negative ones). By posting your question here, you agree to post updates along the way and the outcome of your case, and in the same thread as your original post. We are trying to help everyone, including future visitors who can benefit from your experience. We can only do that if we have your full story beginning to end to use as data points.
DO NOT PM THE MODS FOR ADVICE! We cannot help you one-on-one, plus we want everyone else to be able to benefit from the advice and create a full story, beginning to end, of your case for those in the future.
Note: You can PM the mods if you have questions about the rules.
#None of this constitutes professional legal advice or creates an attorney/client relationship. You accept this information as-is and are solely liable for all outcomes. This is merely an informal information exchange and you must do your own research! You should contact a licensed attorney for legal help in any traffic matters.
