Hello, I'm from Matamoros and I know RGV like all you guys do but can you tell me if its worrh to live on RGV? I would like to live on Brownsville bc it almost have everything that I like but I've heard its a little bit hard to live there if you are Mexican, I can tell bc I have family there. So anyway, should a Mexican who studys graphic designer and want to run away from cartel land and poverty live there? Or somewhere else?
Recently moved to the rgv. Originally from a midwestern town, I was somewhat used to the U.S car-centric suburbia but luckily was also able to experience the privilege of traversing my local home and neighboring towns by bicycle or walking on sidewalks along town streets. Moving to the rgv was a culture shock it's the car-centric suburbia I had seen but x10. My car has been in the shop for a couple of weeks and it really has been an eye-opener of how untraversable my environment is. Besides the more urban/college towns like McAllen and Edinburg who have integrated or tried to integrate infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists most of the rgv is reliant on car travel. This is easily seen by the massive expressway that connects the valley and it's not uncommon to see cyclists along onramps, or pedestrians crossing the road where cars are traveling 55mph+ (it's texas so yk). The rgv has such a rich past, and so much potential for the future, I really love the people, the culture, and the food, I can't seem to understand how things were allowed to be built this way. Expansion is still continuing with extensions of the expressway as well as suburban developments that are always going on. How could the rgv take steps to integrate easier public/pedestrian transport or has it gone past the point of no return.

This might be a longshot, but if anyone here knows about a shotokan karate dojo located in the rio grande valley area of Texas, let me know. My first year of shotokan karate was in Austin, TX, but then I moved to the RGV. So far I've only seen other styles of karate here, which I will probably join if I can't find a shotokan place. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
