Before you call me a neckbeard, I would like to preface and say that I have no opinion on the stock up or down for this discussion. But every single person I have met that owns a Tesla absolutely loves the car but has run into some catastrophic failure of the car in some form, yet, they still absolutely love it.

I will list a work colleague and my uncle's experience with their model 3s:

My Uncle:

Was driving down his neighborhood where some component failed, making the steering wheel useless and him driving off the road into a tree. Only 20 MPH but still fucked up. After saying this part, he goes into a shpeel on how great the car is. Then, he admit that he still had to pay 3000 bucks to fix the problem that most likely could have killed or injured him if on the highway. Ok this sounds pretty boomerish, so let us go onto the young millenial.

Work Friend:

Techy guy and absolutely loves the car. But one day his doors stopped working and he couldn't get inside, so he had to spend 20 minutes in the company parking lot to get the trunk open and crawl through the seats to the drivers seat lol.

Obviously, this is only 2 people, but would you guys agree that Teslas brand is so strong that it can overcome significant quality control of the product?

Hi, just picked up my MDY yesterday and I renamed my car. It does show in the car screen but the name does not show in the app (top left side) corner. It just says model y. Any idea how can I trigger/sync the name change?

Tried signing out of the app, deleting the app, renaming the name several times but no luck so far..

Any ideas appreciated, Thank you!!

Not sure if this is worth its own post or not...I'm always curious year to year which names are carrying indexes. I ran some calculations in Bloomberg, particularly for the past 6 months and got these results:

SPX 6 Month Return: 9.5%

SPX-EX GOOG, GOOGL, MSFT, NVDA, AMZN, TSLA, AAPL 6 Month Return: 6.6%

That's 7 tickers out of 500 accounting for 1/3 of all the gains the past half year. I haven't run this for past years but may do so in the next month, I'd be curious to see what the top 5 or so names have accounted for on a full-year basis for each year in the past decade.

I think some YTD stats are even more interesting:

SPX YTD: 22.6%

SPX-EX GOOG, GOOGL, MSFT YTD: 20.6%

That's 2 companies accounting for ~10% of the total gain we've seen this year.

The guy put in his notice and quit his job because he had a Tesla offer and start date, then Tesla pulled the offer. They have tons of SWE job openings so why not slot him into another open SWE role?

Model 3 unveiling prototype

I've always wanted to ask this and always forget to do so. Until today.

In most South Slavic languages "tesla" means a hand instrument, a hand adze. My question is is that the etymology of Tesla's family name or there is an alternative source.

I am asking Serbs and Croats on the first place, because I expect that they are most likely to be informed, but anyone is welcome to answer.

I made a big deal out of choosing a name for my Model 3, and landed on Elektra. Sometimes people look at me weird when I ask what their Tesla is named, but I think it’s fun! Figured I’d ask here.. So, What’s your Tesla’s name? (Or if you’re awaiting delivery, what names are you considering?)

A fun intended post, I am waiting for mine to arrive and thinking to name it, what do you think ?
