Boycotting the Sultan of Brunei owned hotels is useless and a circlejerk of internet activism. International action from strong economic countries is actually what would make a difference.
The laws being enacted are horrendous, obviously, but that's a given.
I know someone who works in one of these hotels. They told me the income the Sultan makes off of all the hotels is approximately 1% or less of his income. If every one of these hotels got shut down due to the boycotting, the laws would not change. The only thing that would happen is all the employees, many of whom are part of the LGBTQ+ community, would lose their jobs.
It would literally do nothing to affect these laws or the Sultan. It would only hurt working class people, and the horrible laws would continue.
Sanctions and tariffs from governments would be much more effective, not the Hollywood elite boycotting hotels that would only end up hurting working class people and many of whom are part of the same community these Hollywood elite purport they are fighting to protect.
