A list of puns related to "Suburbs And Localities"
I'm a Brit and have always wanted to learn more about American suburbs. I've always seen them as being quite a cool place to live, but I get the impression they are purely residential and roads for miles and miles?
Do suburbs typically include things like local shops and entertainment areas like a British town's outskirts might? If not, wouldn't a development like this be hugely popular with residents of suburbs, and why hasn't someone taken advantage of this gap in the market before?
Edit: Thanks everyone, I've read all the comments so far, I've learned a lot!
Iβm working on a mystery based on an urban legend/ jointed area not far from where I live in southeastern Pennsylvania. This would be my first time as a keeper or even actually playing MotW, so Iβm looking for as much advice as possible in how to turn this into a mystery.
Thereβs a road called Cossart Road near me thatβs supposedly haunted. I did some research on it and things get even weirder. Thereβs a mansion on the property that the road leads to thatβs abandoned. Supposedly, this belonged to the DuPont family, the wealthy family that developed much of this area (yes itβs the same DuPonts as Steve Carellβs character in the movie Foxcatcher, which also takes place not far from here). Anyway, itβs rumored that the family often had incestuous marriages to keep the wealth in the family. According to the urban legend, this mansion, called βcult houseβ is where they had these cousin to cousin weddings in secret , as well as delivered the offspring. They used the surrounding grounds to dump the bodies of the offspring that were born with defects. Itβs also noted that the trees in a radius around the cult house, the trees grow at a 45 degree angle or less away from the home. I once heard that the devil screamed here and the shout pushed all the trees to bend away.
Hereβs a link to some info on it but itβs mostly what Iβve mentioned above: Cossart Road
What should be the BBEG? What types of NPCs should I include? What minions would you expect or not expect, but would still be a good fit? I like the idea of cultists using the house because of its dark energy, and if we continue the thread, maybe other mysteries could be linked back to the wealthy DuPont family. They also built one of the worlds premier botanical gardens, Longwood Gardens, nearby. It would make a good spot for a mystery as well.
The hook will be an uptick in deadly car crashes on the road. A lot of the high schoolers go their to scare each other when theyβre bored and want to drive around. Please let me know if you have any better ideas for a hook!
Thanks so much! This sub is great!
Like how people spend their sundays, normal prices of everyday items, like literally knowing everyday life of people on other side of planet. Iβm sick of media projecting common peopleβs lives.
Since we all depend on the internet for doing very basic activities, like exchanging goods and services. And since the internet depends on electric power. Didnβt we put our civilization in a single point of failure scenario, in which countries may take control over other countries, or exposed to unprecedented terrorist attacks, by enabling/disabling power supplies?
An example of what's happening in NC (second video down in the link). Many places are similar or worse. Where are those run and cycle groups when we need them - placing SOLO volunteers with info to encourage folks to space out and slow down near crowded bottlenecks? Do we really want / need the police patrolling the parks to prevent overcrowding? Sure enough, it's much easier for the local authorities to just shut the places down and deal with trespassers.
I recently read game programming patterns by Robert Nystrom. In the chapter about data locality (http://gameprogrammingpatterns.com/data-locality.html) he shows a better layout for the components in memory. My question is how shared state would be handled though. Let's say you had an entity with a physics component, a rendering component and an ai component. They would all need access to the position of the entity but if they would get it through pointers in their respective update method pretty much all the benefit would be lost. I know he talked about interaction between the components in his components chapter but all of his methods would pretty much remove the benefits of having arrays of components. So how would one go about sharing state like a position vector for example?
A little update. I ran some profiling tests to see how cache friendly it would be to just iterate over two arrays at the same time and do some calculations with those arrays. Turns out this is completely cache friendly even if both arrays are too large to fit into even L3 cache. I think this is either because the prefetcher is really good or because of what meshfillet said. So thank you all again for your help! Have a lovely day :)
I administer a Citrix XenApp environment. This consists of 20 x Cisco UCS blades, each with 2 x Intel E5-2670 v3 CPUs (48 pCPU). The blades run ESXi 6.5.
Each ESXi blade hosts 7 x XenApp VMs. Each has 38GB of memory and 6 x vCPU. They also host a 2 vCPU monitoring appliance.
I have been advised by a consultant that we are not getting optimum performance, and part of the reason for this is that our NUMA locality percentages(N%L) as showing in ESXTOP are less than 100%. N%L is frequently as low as 20%.
Is this correct and if so how do I fix this? If I use an even number of XenApp VMs, will that keep me at 100% NUMA locality?
Note that the XenApp VMs are static to each host; they do not migrate. Sorry for my lack of understanding.
