For Denmark, I think an interesting game could be “Høvdingebold” (Chieftain-ball). The game is an advanced version of dodgeball, played on a field like this. It is played between two teams of equal size. Each team picks a “høvding” (chieftain), who stands on the thin line behind the opposing team. A ball is placed at the very middle of the field, and after a countdown, the players are allowed to go get the ball for their side. Once a side has gotten the ball, it can be passed around between the players on or thrown at the opposing team. It is also possible to throw the ball to your chieftain, who have a better shot at an opponent. If you are hit by an opponent, you are considered dead, and must move to the thin slice of field where your chieftain is. The other team could get the ball by a player from the other team missing a throw, by managing to grab the ball after it rolls to the other side after a player is killed, or anything along those lines. Once all regular players are dead, the chieftain moves to the regular field and play goes on. Once all players of a team, including the chieftain, are dead, the team has lost.
I think a way to make it fit the “Squid Game” format, would be to make it so, that players that are hit get “eliminated” instead of going to the chieftains area. I could imagine the main character being picked to be the chieftain and having all the rest if their team die, but still ending up winning, potentially defeating an antagonist as the opposing teams chieftain.
