A list of puns related to "Sourceforge"
Every time I end up on an SF project site it makes me wonder. They are badly organized and of course it's comicly ugly. Mostly you eventually find the project is inactive, with no update in 5, 10 or more years. Sometimes you do see recent updates though.
I am curious if there is some benefit to SF that is not obvious to me? Someone must be using it for something because it hasn't gone out of business.
Hi I can see build for pcmanfm here
https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/blob/master/srcpkgs/pcmanfm/template
In particular I see line with....distfiles="${SOURCEFORGE_SITE}/${pkgname}/${pkgname}-${version}.tar.xz"
with all but SOURCEFORGE_SITE defined.
Is there a file I need to read to see where the "other" variable is defined?
PS I am new to void, but thinking of re-compiling to dep of gtk2 (gtk+) initially for my own selfish needs but as orphaned, maybe see if I can downstream maintain it. But offer no guarantees as I clearly have not read the handbook well enough
thanks for reading
The GNU COBOL project home page is at:
Vanilla Rice Linux = Lubuntu / LXQT & Herbstluftwm
The idea is ubuntu+every tiling window manager and a nice theme, seperate remix for every tiling window manager.
If you see something like this it is useful post a positive review on my sourceforge page , if not also post your review on project's page so i won't bother creating anything else.
Download the iso from there https://sourceforge.net/projects/vanilla-rice/files/
Read the wiki https://sourceforge.net/p/vanilla-rice/wiki/Home/
See the video that shows the desktop in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjtiNv7ZgNU
I have made a video if you wanna learn using HerbstluftWM Tiling window manager
Thank you , i accept no donations , please support Lubuntu/Ubuntu if you liked the distro.

I downloaded it from sourceforge and both Google and VirusTotal told me it might not be safe
retiform ( https://sourceforge.net/u/retiform/ ) has created a tmux 2.0 download using the tmux project name on sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/tmux/files/latest/download AFAICT this used to be where the tmux project was hosted before moving to github.
I tried to check the downloadable sources with the May 2015 version in git, but didn't get them to match and am not sure if that matches any version of tmux at all, or is some derivative.
I tried to reach retiform, but got no reply, anyone any ideas of what is going on?
Following comments on that thread I downloaded from SourceForge. I'm on Ubuntu linux. The download results in a zip file that, when extracted, results in 4 files ( think screen shot attached, dam this UI for making a post with images).

What do I do with these? I tried double clicking them which seems to attempt to open them in a text editor, before failing to open due to special chars.
When I last installed Veracrypt I had someone more knowledgeable to help me out. I'm sure I recall a gu click and set up experience, different to what I'm experiencing via SourceForge.
How can I install Veracrypt?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/veracrypt/
Hey all,
I want to install the program, but I don't know if it's safe. Is it?
I was wondering if sourceforge zip and executable files were compiled from the source (like f-droid does) or if it's the dev uploading the compiled files.
Hello, everyone!
I've recently started working for a small B2B software company targeted at enterprise manufacturers. As this is my first job in digital marketing, I'm still getting used to the endless possibilities. I'm currently working on improving our SEA.
I was curious to hear some experiences with sourceforge and capterra? Both have their own PPC and they both seem interesting to invest in.
As a scale-up we do not have the budget to invest in both, of course, so I'm interested to hear any ideas, stories... :)
I'm thinking of migrating a Svn repository at SourceForge to Git. However, I have Svn clients that need to communicate with the repo. Since GitHub provides basic support for Svn clients, I'm considering moving to GitHub.
My question is, does SourceForge provide a similar "Svn compatibility layer" for Git repos? If it does, I might consider staying with SourceForge.

From the Summary: >THIS website - managed by the developer - is the ONE and ONLY source for the ORIGINAL LWT software. The previously used project links [lwt.sf.net] or [lwt.sourceforge.net] or [sourceforge.net/projects/lwt] are all outdated. They are no longer managed by the developer as they have been "hijacked" and blocked in the meantime by somebody else.
I need to download some programs for my college classes and the professor recommends sourceforge.net and it does seem legit, but I saw some people saying they install adware in your computer, hijacking projects and redirecting you to some shady websites.I'm kinda paranoic with my computer security so I just want to be sure it's safe.
I'm not sure if it means it' abondoned or not, I'm just trying to use it for a project to get some nice looking graphs from PRTG
I just want a nice gui so I can click and collect random info.
>So far, most of the migration work has been finished. Our buildserver is already pushing the packages to our SourceForge project, and we use it to host the releases from the main page. Feel free to test this all out and let us know if there are any issues.
>
>All our new releases can now be found at https://sourceforge.net/projects/opengapps/files. They are splitted by the architecture and the release date, somewhat alike to what we had on GitHub. Older releases are mostly already there, weβll eventually fill in the missing packages.

I am helping with a project on sourceforge that is called CDE or Common Desktop Environment. The issue is:
https://sourceforge.net/p/cdesktopenv/tickets/60/
What needs to be done is all hardcoded paths must be removed and replaced. Example is https://sourceforge.net/p/cdesktopenv/code/ci/8db8a2290683acf94f02e855af668a864d6001c2/ where "installCDE: don't hardcode path to whoami" has a line with /bin/echo "$1" | tee -a $LOGFILE was changed to echo "$1" | tee -a $LOGFILE.
How would I go about removing all the hardcoded paths? I need some help here, if anyone could volunteer that would be a big help. I used grep to find all instances of the three paths and got this as a result. https://pastebin.com/raw/H0LYfRSe
I'm asking for volunteer help to give me a hand in fixing this ticket.
Hi all,
My name is Logan Abbott and I am the President of SourceForge. My company acquired SourceForge in January of this year. Someone posted a link to our newly launched speed test today, and in the comments people were not aware that SourceForge was acquired, nor were they aware of our recent improvements and developments: https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/4n2x3e/the_new_sourceforge_internet_speed_test_includes/
One user recommended that I make a full post about these changes since many people haven't heard. After reaching out to a mod to get permission (didn't want to it to be blatant self-promotion) I thought I'd go ahead with the post.
We acquired SourceForge and Slashdot in January from DHI Group (also known as DICE). The first thing we did after we took over was remove bundled adware from projects: https://sourceforge.net/blog/sourceforge-acquisition-and-future-plans/ and https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/06/under-new-management-sourceforge-moves-to-put-badness-in-past/
As of a few weeks ago, we also now scan for malware in case third party developers are adding their own adware: https://sourceforge.net/blog/sourceforge-now-scans-all-projects-for-malware-and-displays-warnings-on-downloads/
Today we launched a great HTML5 speed test that works on all devices and does not require Java or Flash. To my knowledge, this is the most comprehensive HTML5 speed test on the web and provides a ton of customized detail to the user after the test is complete: https://sourceforge.net/speedtest/
In the past, SourceForge has also taken heat for deceptive ads that may look like download buttons. To this end we have a full time team member that polices the site and blacklists deceptive ads that sneak in via programmatic ad exchanges. And we have not announced it yet, but in the next couple of weeks we will be releasing a self-serve tool where users can report those misleading or deceptive ads that sneak in via programmatic ad exchanges so that we can blacklist them right away. We're committed to restoring trust in SourceForge and building out some cool new features.
Any feedback or comments are welcome. I'll also answer any questions that come up.
EDIT: I'd love to hear what features/improvements you would like to see at SourceForge. Feature requests, partnerships with other open source repositories, etc.
EDIT 2: Verification: I tweeted a link to this discussion to my personal twitter here: https://twitter.com/loganabbott/status
