A list of puns related to "Softphone"
I have FreePBX setup on Vultr and I am using Twilio for my trunks. On my iPhone 12 through T-Mobile (also used Verizon previously) I've never had any luck with the call quality on a softphone phone app. It' s better when on WiFi but still not great. I am using Clearly Anywhere from Clearly IP for the softphone. I did have crystal clear calls (while using cellular data) a few times when dialing someone else's office 3 digit extension from my cell (using the softphone)
Should I be focusing on the issue being Twilio, the cell carrier data quality or the softphone app?
I would like to be able to make calls from my cell and use my office line as the caller ID and I would like to receive calls and know that they are currently calling my office DID that I've setup as a "Direct Line" vs my personal cell phone.
Ideally the system would do some kind of call transfer to/from my cell phone instead of relying on voip connection over cell data.
Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
question, last day or two the audio coming over the softphone app has been terrible. So bad you might hear every 3rd or 4th word in a conversation. The data connection is good and i checked my setting but can't see anything that would cause it to go amiss. I do run a VPN on the phone, would that interfer or slow data the connection? Its Nord and i haven't had issues in the past.
Am I missing something simple here? I've connected my WebEx client to my CUCM extension, but now I can't sign out if I choose to do so? How can I sign off?

I have a brand new Voyager Focus 2 headset that sounds amazing when listening to music but as soon as I connect my softphone, the audio gets really bad. Anyone know why this happens?
I am the most IT competent person left in our office but we've been advised by our government to work from home and I'm not really sure what I'm doing. I can get the softphone (zoiper) to ring through my laptop speakers but can't hear the call and the caller can't hear me. Same thing when I try using headphones
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Is there anything that can be checked or tweaked to improve sound quality in a softphone app?
In the softphone app it sounds like the headset user is in a tunnel.
For other things like Teams or Zoom on the PC, quality is okay. Same headsets for calls on Android and iOS phones and when using softphone iOS app is okay.
SIAP, is there a method that would allow my computer to have google voice open on a softphone as a background application other than having chrome open? I want to be able to call my house, and even if my kid has closed down my browser window, the computer still ring to alert of an incoming call.
I have tried these. Any other options?
Thanks
Hi, we are building an integration to a big contact center and need ways for our overseas people to test the integration.
We have a US Twilio phone number procured and want to download a simple softphone that our developers can use to make test calls to the contact center. We want to use the Twilio Phone Number because it's already whitelisted by the contact center dev environment.
Does anybody know of a softphone that is easy to set up for Twilio without having to host something? If not, anyone know of another way for developers to test this our? I was looking at just buying Skype Voice or Google Voice, but they force 2FA so we can't share it with our whole dev group.
We're talking maybe 10 minutes of calls a month for a few months.
I am able to make calls through both the Grandstream phone (which receives the network cable and has another that goes to the pc) + 3cx softphone on pc. But I am unable to receive calls on the Grandstream physical phone, it doesn't ring and if there is an upcoming call, I can't take the phone and answer it.
Any help? Thanks in advance.
Its the weirdest thing.
If you call the internal conference extension via softphone. enter a participant code, you get let into the conference. you can hear everyone and everyone can hear you. But the Mitel client shows nothing in the call pane. This means when you're finished you cant hang up the call and leave. the only way out of the conference is to exit the client and relaunch.
If however you join the conference via the events tab, outlook or dial me in under the my conference option it works fine.
we're on the latest pbx build and Mitel client.
Anyone have tested both ? What are the real difference ?
We are currently with Voip.ms + iOS
Both are made by the same compagnie
Since I've spent the better part of a week sorting through info on this topic, I thought I would share my solution.
It was relatively easy to get a couple generic softphones working with UniFi Talk, running on a UDM Pro. The big issue I faced was getting voicemail to work. Turns out the solution was extremely simple. I used MicroSIP on Windows and ZoiPer on android.
First big thing YOU NEED AT LEAST ONE UNIFI PHONE. I have a UniFi Phone Touch. This is the only way I was able to get Talk through the initial setup.
Once you have Talk setup, add the users you want. These will get assigned an extension. They do not need a phone number (external) assigned or a device.
In the user configuration screen it will list the SIP password. Copy this, it will be the login password for the softphone.
In your softphone enter the following:
Host/SIP Server/Domain: IP of your UDM/Controller (enter in all of those fields if they are there)
User/Username: Extension from user config
Password: SIP password from user config
Voicemail extension/number: voicemail (yes, just type the word)
Options like publish presence work as well.
Video calls between softphones work (android and windows). I was not able to video call to the Touch.
I was not able to get server side contacts or a directory. Text messaging doesn't work.
In MicroSIP (free) on Windows the status is accurately displayed when I manually add contacts, for both official Talk phones and softphones.
The device needs a connection to your console and this did work on android over VPN.
That's it. They will not show up as devices in the Talk console, but the users can be assigned to groups and the phones will ring with those groups. If they are given an external number, or added to a group with an external number, thay can call out.
Enjoy your free phones!
Anyone have any experience with any desktop softphones for Windows that can merge calls? Bria can, but unfortunately the customer had a bad experience with Bria several years ago, honestly it wasn't Bria issue, I think it was a sip provider, but nevertheless even mentioning Bria is a deal breaker.
Any suggestions?
There are a lot of threads about cell phone apps, but there isn't a whole lot that I could find about Desktop Softphone Apps, for Windows in particular. Before I buy Zoiper, I figured to check in with what other people are using and get some feedback. Thanks!
I want the g729 which is included in softphone, Push (both) but SMS seems to be different between them - which is better?
We are setting up a telephony network for an association and one of the requirements is that the software used must be open source, no matter if it requires some kind of payment.
Which open source softphone do you recommend? I have been looking at a few, but they are usually quite outdated or have an unfriendly interface.
Regards
What is the best softphone for pc? I don't need video. I do want something with no malware/bloatware or privacy issues as well as good, reliable functionality (quality sound, etc.). If it's free that's a plus.
In the past I've used various brands including Zoiper and Bria (both had very POOR functionality, constantly causing errors and they did not update me when they had problems, causing me to lose calls). If they've dramatically improved in the past couple of year or two I'm willing to give them a try.
What are the favorites these days?
Thanks!
Hi! We're currently using freepbx with Zulu on our desktops and sangoma connect on the mobile devices. Is it safe to say that Zulu will be replaced with sangoma connect at one point?
The reason I ask is because we're looking to hire a contractor to integrate sms between bandwidth and Zulu but don't want to waste the money if it's at the end of it's life.
Are there any other softphone options that we can purchase that'll also have an SMS function?
Also, is there a way to change the ringtone options within Zulu? I only have two options and they both suck.
Hi,
I'm looking to port a Skype number over to VOIP.MS and understand I need a softphone to make and receive calls as well as receive voicemail. Is there a softphone similar to Skype that is really user-friendly and easy to use? Is VOIP.MS the best service or is there a competitor to Skype that offers the same, similar or better features and service and ease of use?
Thanks
We are using an Avaya IP Office 500 v2 with Voicemail Pro with almost all of our lines running over regular phone lines. Our business wants to begin using softphone apps on mobile phones in order to answer/transfer calls remotely. What options does Avaya have and what should I expect?
Thank you!
As the title says. I'm looking for a good way to send MMS with my VOIP number. Currently I use Linphone for calls, but it's messaging capabilities are quite lacking. I also currently use VoIP.ms. Thanks
Hi All,
For work we use the Evolve 2 85 in with MS Teams and Cisco IP communicator as softphone.
I am experiencing strange behaviour when listing to Spotify, and i get a phone call from Cisco i do not hear the other person. While the mic is working. I am not experiencing this with Teams at all, so it could be that Cisco is causing this.
Anyone known with this issue?
Hi,
I am new to having VOIP (sip) telephone as a main home telephone line. I'd like advice on how to go about being able to transfer calls from an analogue phone connected to a PBX to a softphone and vice versa. Is that possible?
Do I need a specific client? My platform is MacOS and I am running telephone app from App store at the moment, but I am happy to change it if I need to
Why it matters: Giving out a SIM card-linked phone number exposes one to having their real-time and history of physical location tracked and sold, oftentimes without a warrant (which can cost an individual less than $20 on the grey market). Not to mention that it allows for SIM Swapping Attacks, where fraudsters get cellular carriers to transfer a phone number to their SIM card, allowing them to gain access to other sensitive accounts through their two-factor authentication or password recovery via phone verification.
Solutions: Softphone/Voice over IP/SIP services function like SIM card-linked phone numbers but go a long way in mitigating SIM Swapping Attacks and prevent phone number-based location tracking altogether since they're not tied to a SIM card connecting to cellular towers. Ideally, you'd want to use a real phone number that was purchased in cash so it's not linked to you for your data and then port your number(s) that you give out to a softphone service like OpenPhone. The best value option that I've seen is skipping SIM card-linked number altogether and signing up for the Calyx Institute's unlimited 4G hotspot and using that to provide connectivity to your softphone service (heck, it can even replace your phone and WiFi bills altogether!)
Take Action: Currently, OpenPhone seems to be the only user-friendly softphone service that works on de-Googled devices but we shouldn't be reliant on one closed source company for such an essential privacy and security function. Let's make our presence apparent to the softphone companies and request in their forums to make their services available on F-Droid, or at the very least, make them available to de-Googled devices. Here is an example screenshot of one of my feature requests and below are some links to forums and emails where we can make our voices heard to these companies and show them that there are significant profits to be made if they make their services available to us!
Say a user has a desk phone, a PC softphone, and an iphone softphone configured, but in the Device Information section in End User Config, only the desk phone has been entered/associated under Controlled Devices. What does this mean for the softphones? Does it change or limit their functionality?
We're facing an issue with some users being annoyed their softphone (installed locally) popups not appearing while they're working in citrix full screen desktop. I've tried changing the windows focus assist without any progress.
I've also looked in to local app access which we've not tried yet.
Is local app access the way to go or anyone has any ideas?
I need to make a number of calls where I'm on hold for an extended period of time. Mostly to gov't agencies when I have business or tax questions. I always put these off because it's so painful! Are there any VOIP softphones that will "hold for me"? Ideally I'd place the phonecall using a softphone, and then it'd alert me when someone actually came on the line.
Hi all,
Iβve recently setup a SIP account with a provider and I want to use this with a softphone app on my iPhone. Iβve tried a few apps now (Linphone and Sessiontalk), and while they work when the app is open, calls no longer go through after the app has not been used for a while, and I donβt receive any kind of push notification either. I do not forcefully close the apps.
Is this a problem with these softphone apps, iOS or my voip provider? I like both Linphone and Sessiontalk, they work fine when they work, but not having calls get through is not okay. Planning to use this number for my business so all calls definitely needs to cone through.
If the app is the problem, are there any apps that always work? Or should I use a different solution? Deskphone is not an option, as Iβm not in a office and it needs to be portable.
Hello guys,
Do you happen to know of any SIP softphone app that runs natively on m1 (and it's not Zoiper for iPhone/iPad) ? There's the likes of Bria and Linphone but they are x86, Intel. I've searched the web but no luck yet and I need it for my work.
I have softphone users on VPN and when they call each other they are losing audio path. I know this is because after the call is setup the medpro drops out and it tries to go client to client. If you hit a touchtone it bring the medpro back in the link and the audio works.
I know there is a setting on the VPN that allows the clients to go direct but I do not remember what it is called... I had this on a Cisco VPN and network guys were able to fix it... I have a BIG IP F5 now that is having the same problem and they have not been able to fix it and F5 wants $ to diag the problem (different network guys).
Does anyone know what that setting is called?
