Society Parakeet Puns

I have been going through top20 lists of Black mirror episodes and what turned up very puzzling to me was that “Playtest” was never top5 and most of the time was in the bottom 5 ranking. My personal opinion from the first time I saw the episode was that it was definitely one of the best ones, and now that I have re-watched it many times and given it some thought it may very well be the best and most timely episode of Black mirror series. Now why is it mostly ranked low by other people and what are their arguments? The two main arguments that come up in the evaluation of this episode are as follows. 1. The episode just shows the technology and does not really dive deep in the way humans misuse the technology like the other episodes. 2. It is about gaming VR tech, which is not that important or interesting in human society. Oh could these arguments be more wrong? First of all let me tell you, that the episode and the technology involved has nothing to do with VR, AR or any video game tech for that matter and this is not what the episode is about. It is not about some horror game simulator or any game simulator actually. We must remember, that in the episode we only get Coopers perspective on what the technology was in his experience, but are not told unambiguously what the technology is or does. We only know that it's a gaming company developing some new, secretive tech, but this does not give us anything concrete. The company's assistant Kate says that it's a “augmented reality system” and “layers on top of reality”, but we can't really trust her words anyway can we? Actually the way they handle the death of their test subject and how the “CEO” seems indifferent to it suggests that its more of a government / secret conspiracy like organization and that the gaming company is just a cover up. Now we get clues to what the technology is and although some could argue that the clues are only in Coopers mind they are still put there by the film maker and I think we can make some conclusions from them. We are hinted in Coopers first (fake) awakening that there is a “neural net package” and “state of the art intelligence software that learns and adapts” all of this screams AI and I think it is pretty clear that the technology this episode warns us about is AI/AGI. There is also a hint to that in the “Singularity” book that Cooper finds on Sonya's bookshelf. I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Hey everyone! The name's Edvard Pratttles, with three T's, that's for THICC tall Tree. You can call me Ed, Pratt, or as some have started, Big Triple T.

I was once a tree, cut down, turned into a drawer, got found out that I was sentient and then put into this body. That really says something about society! The human body grafting process hasn't been perfected though hence the messy hair colour and heterochromia. Also, the model doesn't lie, you might hear my pet parakeet, Kibo, singing in the background sometimes!

You can imagine being stuck as a tree for a few thousand years then a drawer for another few hundred has made me very unlearned of societal and human norms so I spend my days learning how to play the guitar, violin, piano, solving the Rubik's cube, and how to draw illustrations, which is a nice coinkydink because I was already a drawer!... just not the same kind. When I'm not learning anything new, I tend to play roguelites, roguelikes, RPGs, racing games, FPS games... okay, I just like video games. Be warned, I tend to prattle on about random things I find interesting, be it game mechanics, different forms of media, keyboards, audio equipment, monitors, amplifiers (okay I like gear pr0n, gaming setups, audiophile equipment, musical instruments, I just like tech).

I've been active since 2020 and streaming with a PNG, but I promised myself I'd be more active and finally finish my rigged model I've been working on this year, so this little post here marks that. Self-made rig incoming so wait for it!

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Imagine that — I’m going to be a father soon, and I still get sad when I think about JG being gone. I understand it’s a progrum, a movie, but that doesn’t seem to provide any closure whatsoever. Ok, but I gotta get over it… right? For you see, I can see you all coming from a mile away, bunch of fucking parakeets that your are, when really you’re all papering over your own pain about his death with nonsensical regurgitation. I insert jokes and quotes in advance only to give myself first dibs on deprecation because it’s so utterly pathetic that I legitimately miss an actor — whom I’ve obviously never met — that was playing a fictional character on a show that aired Sunday nights on HBO. It’s so pathetic and out of character for me, but I don’t fucking care. I mean, even if he was still alive and I did meet him, I’d probably somehow be disappointed because he was stand-offish or exhibiting some other regular human trait that people exhibit when they’re just trying to be a normal person functioning in society without getting their balls broken by fans. But I digress.

He devolves into a POS as the show progresses, but so what? He was my POS. Go stick your quotations book up your fat fucking asses. You know most of you feel the same way, otherwise what’s all this about anyway, this subreddit of ours? Fucking miss that fat fucking crook from New Jersey way too much.
