A list of puns related to "Slow Wave Sleep"
My Oura ring says I get 10 minutes of deep sleep a night and thatβs it. Hours are in REM sleep due to the SSRI Iβm on. Supplements which bind to HT2A receptors have been found to improve deep sleep. Chamomile has helped me mildly bumping up the ten minutes into thirty. Any help? I heard catβs claw help. Any experiences?
Update: trying agomelatine tonight. Will see how it goes.
Am concerned about memory issues (which are bad enough from sleep deprivation and overuse of cannabis to try and help with sleep), and have researched both that Gabapentin can cause memory loss, however, it supposedly helps with the "deep sleep slow brain waves" which HELP memory.
Just looking for answers from my Dr. Reddit friends who may have used it successfully for helping with sleep.
Here's a link with lots of info on Gabapentin and its effect on sleep:
Iβm currently in the hospital for seizure monitoring and my seizures appear to be happening in only one part of my brain which is good news! (lmao, the best news an epileptic can get).
Has anyone else been told by a neurologist one side of your brain is active during your sleep? How common is this? Iβm curious because I never thought it was uncommon. I would love people to share experiences and other things they found out when they did their EEG monitoring stay.
I have had sleep issues all my life. Always been a light sleeper, wake up feeling unrefreshed, vivid dreams all night with a lot of awakenings. I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and have been using a cpap but Iβm still struggling with sleepiness during the day and my memory is horrendous. Dr says itβs possible I have narcolepsy-need further testing. In the meantime, are there any supplements that might help consolidate sleep and give me more deep sleep? I definitely donβt need anything that is going to increase rem sleep.
Have already tried the following without much effect:
L-theanine
Ashwagandah
5htp-couldnβt tolerate due to emotional ups and downs
Cbd oil-May have actually increased vivid dreams
Magnesium-already take 450mg every night for relaxation, etc
Zquil/Benadryl-make me groggy and foggy the next day
Melatonin-gives me migraines for some reason
Also, recently found out my testosterone is super low (female) so I have been taking DHEA in the mornings along with a test booster which had given me a little more energy through the day but night time sleep is still suffering.
Thanks a lot for any help!
Hey all, I take 20g glycine nightly in 2 doses for narcolepsy. It helps enormously. I chose glycine because my sleep study showed I have an abundance of REM and a serious lack of Stage 3/slow wave sleep.
Anyone aware of supplements I could stack with glycine to get an even stronger effect? Glycine gets me most of the way there but it isn't perfect. Thanks.

According to this study, caffeine has a significant affect on slow-wave sleep in rats, even a week after intake.
Is the same true for humans?
Does anyone have any successful experience with improving/lengthening their slow-wave (non-REM) sleep?
Any methods welcome, supplements or pharmaceuticals as well.
SWS is the restorative stage of sleep. These increase SWS:
Alpha-Blockers:
Clonidine
Guanfacine (not as effective as Clonidine)
Antidepressants:
Mirtazapine (causes weight gain and has a 20 hour half life)
Trazodone (about 1/5000 chance of priapism)
Trimipramine
Hypnotics:
GHB/ Xyrem (very expensive, if you can even get it)
Sonata and Ambien (addictive)
Pain/ Seizure medication:
Gabapentin
Lyrica
Supplements
Glycine may cause "deeper" sleep
Melatonin (NOT effective for SWS)
Agmatine (similar to Clonidine though no studies have been done on SWS)
Other nootropics
Deep sleep-inducing peptide (exists but might not be safe)
Phenibut (tolerance builds quickly)
Sound
Dreem/ SmartSleep headbands (Pink noise may increase SWS intensity)
Loud noises may decrease SWS (sound machines may impair SWS)
Lifestyle
Going to bed before midnight (ideally before 11 PM) increases SWS
Decreasing exposure to blue light at night
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
