I'm at the episode when serena gets to see Nichole and Luke at the airport and I realize that when she and Luke talk about June serena never says her name. It's always only "your wife" I can't remeber if serena has ever called her June in the past. June has never been shy about calling serena by her name. Sometimes as if they are friends. But serena never returns the favor even when they were on neutral terms. Just shows how serena will always see her as a slave even when June helps her

There are some popular beliefs of why June changed the name. They wrote this lovely scene of Nick and June with their baby when June named her Holly. If they wanted to respect Atwoods' wishes and name her Nichole, that scene was the perfect chance for June to decide on Nichole in honor of her real father. It would have been a lasting poignant moment but any goodwill of that scene is erased given June's about turn.
Rather what the show wants us to takeaway from the name Nichole is that, June was so grateful to the woman who tore her family apart, who holds her down to be habitually raped, and is perpetuating a world in which her older adult is held captive, that she decided the name her second daughter should have is the one given to her by this woman.
