A list of puns related to "Robin Norwood"
Have you read this? I discovered it as I was searching for hope online after a particularly shitty fight with my fiancee. I read reviews and watched some videos on YouTube of people discussing the book. Cut to last week we had an I might actually pack my shit up today while you're out of the house fight. I left the house and immediately bought the book and read it in full in 24 hours.
My struggle is, this book really enlightened lots of things for me but since I'm certain he's a narcissist, it puts so much blame on me for picking him? Yes I understand I made choices to get where I am today. Many of them based on the low self esteem my childhood nurtured leading me to want to reenact all that crap with him. So I do feel more enlightened and informed on my own shit. But I also feel sort of lost now. It seems like it's all on me to make things better where I'm at, join Al-anon or CODA and don't worry about what he's doing. But the things making me crazy and eating my sanity are that we don't have boundaries or respect, I am carrying the responsibility for everything in our lives and with 2 chronic illnesses (fibro and narcolepsy likely caused by C-PTSD from him) and I am fucking exhausted. There's nothing about dealing with the real day to day. I think that is probably due to the time period it was written, women just accepted the misogynistic misery of them doing everything.
Is there a book that is informed of her school of thought that can help someone who is with a narcissist? Recommendations? Suggestions or what you found useful if you read this book? Thank you so much for reading and for this thread. Knowing I'm not alone in my struggles does help.
A little back story I'm 31f, he's 36M. Together nearly 6 years. We broke up last summer because he refused to go to couple's counseling. I tried to leave, got 90% of my stuff out and he hoovered me back in. Things were better for a time, did the couple's counseling. But we're back where we started except that I express my dissatisfaction more often and less quietly so he has done all that he can to further destroy what's left of my self esteem each time. Not sure I have the energy or courage to try to leave again. Wedding scheduled for June and planning seems to have really ramped up the verbal abuse. Idk why I moved forward with picking a date, just another dumb decision of mine. I guess I thought marriage and children might fix some things but the more I think about it t

Someone recommended this book on FLUS. Iβm about one third through and itβs amazing. The author analyzes straight culture and how it is harmful to straight women.
Here are some notes from what Iβve read so far.
The author talks about how, historically, white men were in power and women were subordinate. Women were often sold, raped and used for their labors. At some point someone decided it would be better [for white power] for men and women to try to like each other. So this switch from βwoman-as-degraded-subordinate to women-of-worthy-deep-loveβ has been very rocky. That is where the author starts.
Men and women didnβt like each other. They had little to nothing in common. They didnβt find each other attractive. Quite the contrary, they were repulsed by each other. Men cared more about getting the esteem of other men, than loving a woman. So much so that a whole propaganda started to try to have men and women be together. Early on, pamphlets were given out to help both men and women, to improve their attractiveness (such as hygiene), in hopes that theyβd like each other.
It very quickly switched to all of the responsibility for the heterosexuality-repair to be put on the woman. And propaganda, from books to tv shows and movies, pushed that.
βIn sum, midcentury representations of marriage doubled down on earlier themes of opposite-sex disinterest and resentment by suggesting to women that not only their bodies but also their personalities needed to be carefully managed in order to produce happy heterosexuality. As experts elaborated their expectations of the good wife, womenβs submission and self-sacrifice became central ingredients of straight culture, with women warned about what they must give up in order to βkeep their menβ ([β¦] their jobs and interests, their desire for adult conversation, their selfhood). Straight culture was also marked by menβs fragility and irritation, their pervasive sense of burden, loss and entrapment. [β¦] Advertisers learned to capitalize on heterosexual tragedy by creating ads that played on menβs desire for freedom and power over women and womenβs desire to be attractive and interesting to their husbands.β
The author recognized that βmillions of women had become addicted to unstable, immature, angry, cold, and abusive menβ after Women Who Love Too Much by Robin Norwood became a best-seller.
The casual sex era was βone way of managing the disappointment of heterosexuality.β
The author also talks about how
... keep reading on reddit β‘I admit that I like Ken Jeong and I don't find him annoying at all, but, sometimes, I think his bit is just too much, and I just don't like any of the remaining judges. I started kinda thinking about who I'd like to have in place of each judge and I came up with this:
To Replace Robin: Joel McHale. He's funny and just not always using the same old tired bits ("I know exactly who this is." or "WHO IS IT?"), The viewers like him.
To Replace Ken: John Henson. The guy has cutting wit but seems to enjoy having fun and the commentary he did during Wipeout was always big fun. I'm not sure how connected he is, but he would be a nice replacement for Ken, I think.
To Replace Nicole: Gwen Stefani. She's genuinely nice and uplifting. There doesn't seem to be any kind of fakeness to her and she provides a warmth and funness (as well as a sense of reality as a singer).
To Replace Jenny: Triumph The Insult Comic Dog Puppet Thingy (to balance out the sweetness of Gwen Stefani), Vanessa Williams maybe, or even Brandy Norwood.
None of my choices are overly dramatic but I think all of them would work with the show quite well.
Do your worst!
It really does, I swear!
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
