A lot of people blame the operation going south in LV-426 on Lt Gorman because of his bad calls. Don't get me wrong, he definitely made mistakes, but he was inexperienced. It's not like he consciously made bad decisions or decided to be an idiot.
Gorman never should have been put on that assignment as Lt in the first place. He had one combat drop, presumably against human combatants. Here, he was facing something entirely unknown. Although Ripley had encountered the Alien before, she had no experience regarding how to actually fight it from a military standpoint. She tells them that they're fast, sneaky, and smart, but not in a way that anyone can really quantify. Add to his initial inexperience and it was a recipe for disaster.
But.... this is the military. He can't just tell his commanders "Sorry coach put someone else in, I'm not ready for this operation." He was ordered to be there. It's also possible Burke/WY requested or influenced the commander-picking process so he could have more control of the operation. An inexperienced commander is more easy to intimidate, for instance.
I would argue that getting blaming Gorman for fucking up the operation is like blaming a 3rd year medical student for botching a heart operation that only an experienced surgeon of 10+ years should've been performing.
Just my two cents.
Both of these women have a certain essence that I can’t describe, but I adore so much. They have a certain elegance and eloquence, and a certain radiant quality. Their personalities shine so much and they stand out so much because of it. You can tell they’re good people just from hearing them speak, especially Lupita. And they’re both extremely intelligent and Ivy League educated, yet have a very humble way of carrying themselves. And they care so much for their communities and help through art. As an African & Black girl they really inspire me, I want to be just like this. I’m not sure if this is the right sub to ask, but how can I develop this type of personality? I’m very reserved, I stutter a lot, I’m very soft spoken, extremely shy, and am very clumsy. I feel like I’m the opposite of them. I want to be myself, but I want to have that quality that they seem to possess.
