“LET THE CULLING BEGIN”

Hello Quakers with this on going post series we will be rounding up additional tournaments going on in our community over the next few months. If you have not already heard Quake Pro League (QPL) Season 3 has been announced to start next year, so 2022. We have no additional information besides that at this point in time.

The Pros, Organizations, and Community at large are still here while we wait for QPL Season 3. We currently have a number of events in the near future to look forward to, and several on going tournaments. Certainly we have no shortage of tournaments to keep us busy in the mean time.

MYZTRO GAMING

Perhaps the biggest tournament we have to look forward to would by Myztro Gaming’s IRONFIST. IronFist will be an Invitational event taking place in London England at the Red-bull Gaming Sphere starting November the 25TH to the 28TH. IronFist will be sponsored by Logitech G. IronFist will feature 16 of Quake Champions best PROS facing off this winter. The first 8 contestants have been announced being: VENGEUR, AV3KK, RAPHA, MAXTER, GARPY, CNZ, DRXMIS, AND RAISY. So, after the awful dissappointment that was RAGE, I decided to try the even older Quake IV, recently purchased from gog.

First of all, things are not exactly perfect on modern systems. The game can run without a hitch on high resolutions, but the textures look like absolute ass. Some fixes involving an autoexec.cfg file are needed (in itself a blast from the past) but the gog forums have detailed and easy to follow instructions for them, and after that, the game looks and works great.

At the time of release, the game was unfavorably compared to contemporaries such as Half-Life 2, as critics were looking for FPS games that did things differently, in a more cerebral and deeper manner. This led to it being called mediocre, boring, an experience you could miss unless you're into "brainless fun", like an action movie.

And maybe that's what's great about this community. With the passage of time, one can judge games on their own merits, outside of the hype or the trends that push the industry around.

And this game is fucking fun. The beginning is a bit tame, with fewer enemies and a very slow movement speed. But after some... upgrades, the player character moves at breakneck speed and the games catches up with him, becoming very chaotic and challenging. With the large and quite well designed arsenal, movement speed and enemy amounts and variety, everything favors a very fast pace and lots of violent fun.

So if it's in your backlog or if you're on the fence, I totally recommend it. Just one thing: harder difficulty modes make all the enemies bullet sponges, which really hurts the pace. Normal is just fine and nicely challenging.

I always thought he had a real cool voice, but can't find it, even on the wiki.
