Movie: Otherhood

Holy shit, y'all!

I was scrolling through Netflix right now and saw the movie "Otherhood." The description blurb intrigued me:

>Feeling forgotten on Mother's Day, three best friends leave the suburbs and drive to New York City to surprise their adult sons.

Then I found this trailer...(trigger warning.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2b8MKsUloc

Not even 20 seconds into the trailer and I'm like, "Holy fuck they seriously think this intrusion into their adult children's lives is a good idea?" And not only that, the way the actresses portray these mothers they CLEARLY know that what they're doing is intrusive.

I don't know anymore about this movie, I may look up the wiki for it ...hold up. I'm going to do that right now.

<spongebob squarepants> 4 minutes later ....

Yeah, nothing in the wiki article about the movie. Sometimes wikipedia will have a plot outline of a movie, book, or tv show. This movie doesn't have such information on its wikipedia link.

I've stopped the trailer at :31 seconds because I can't watch it anymore. It's a 2 minute trailer. It's really triggering. What's interesting about this movie is that instead of the adult children being any gender, the adult children are specifically men.

And whomever came up with this movie though it'd be REALLY FUCKING HILARIOUS HAHAHAHAHAHHA to have what appears to be women who want to be enmeshed with their adult sons.

Gross.

I'm sure any rando reading my post would likely think that this is "just" a movie about women who were forgotten on mother's day and who doesn't want to be remember on mother's day? These poor women! I mean, after ALL they've done for their sons!

Am I right folks? Isn't this what we have heard from our parents in order to elicit some fawning or indebted gratitude from us for them?

I don't know how the movie plays out, I'd rather read a plot line synopsis than watch this bullshit. In Netflix, if you click on the arrow of the movie tile for more information you can see scenes from the movie and they even play out being awkward with their mothers JUST SHOWING UP! Obviously, I don't know the histories of the characters or what's going on because I haven't watched it.

But I will say this.. I'm surprised at how triggered I am. I guess just having watched the trailer and how these women were being portrayed just ... really set me off. Like, HOW DARE they! I PURPOSEFULLY did not tell my mother happy mother's day for her

Otherhood Movie

I have just watched Otherhood on Netflix and MY GOD the amount of drinking in it is insane! Has anyone seen it? Am i just hyper sensitive or is there an extreme amount in this movie? No wonder there are more and more middle aged women with drinking problems these days. As if there wasn’t reason enough to dislike the fat cats of Hollywood

Thoughts on Otherhood being a spectrum.

So the last few chapters have gotten me thinking about what means to be Other. And how Other is different from humans.

Other hood seems more of a spectrum then a binary condition. Practicioners have to become at least a little Other in order to awaken. Many of them become even more Other as they gravitate towards certain practices.

Even unaware humans can easily become Other. People who isolate themselves from society and are forgotten by people can be swallowed up by the Abyss.

People who decieve others and have lives based on lies can easily become far.

I think all humans have a little bit of Other in them. Maybe a special kind of Other? They are part of the spiritual ecosystem of the Pactverse just as much as conventional Others.

Any thoughts?

Perfect (m)otherhood review

Nailed it- a review of the new Netflix movie Otherhood:

β€œNot content to just sit around bitching and whining about their lives, they decide to inflict their neuroses on their grown sons, uninvited. So they pack themselves into the world’s most hostile road trip and storm New York City to make their problems someone else’s.

β€œYou likely know a mother or two just like this, and if it’s your own mother, well, god bless you. This kind of mother wants it both ways: she decides she MUST become a mother because her life is incomplete, but then she spends her kid’s life telling him or her that it was a completely selfless act that requires a well of gratitude whose depth cannot be measured as it is bottomless and unending and nothing will ever be enough. And when the child is grown, the mother is lost and without purpose because motherhood was everything and now she is nothing.”

Otherhood: the romantization of shitty parents

No idea if someone has posted this already so sorry if this is a double!!

Is anyone bothered by that new Netflix movie? It’s so stupid how the story of mothers FORCING contact on their children is romanticized. If you wanted a good relationship with your child, maybe you should’ve been a decent parent! So SICK of people always defending parents. WHY WHY are the experiences of parents legitimized and children chastised. So sick of this bullsh*t.

β€œOtherhood” Movie- A tale of 3 BPD moms

Netflix just dropped a comedy movie about three disgruntled moms who probably have BPD.

I find it cringingly funny.

I just started watching it so I don’t know what triggers there could be in the film.

I’d love to hear people’s thoughts about the film.

Anyone else hoping for a VBAC? I feel like every factor is working against me and I'd like some sisterhood (brotherhood/otherhood welcome, too).

Somewhat planned C-section with #1 about 3 years ago (due to macrosomia and some complications with my amniotic fluid).

Now, I'm wanting a VBAC, but at the 12 and 20 week ultrasounds, I had an anterior placenta. An anterior placenta is normally no big deal, but in those with a c-section scar in the front of the uterus, the placenta can get "sticky" with the scar tissue. This can result in adhesion of the placenta in a condition known as placenta accreta/increta/percreta (each one with increasing levels of adhesion).

This can SOMETIMES result in a necessary hysterectomy if the placenta doesn't detach.

Of course, these are all "what-ifs." My placenta is also, unfortunately, low-lying at this stage, which increases risk of the aforementioned issues. I'm going to be checked again to see if it migrates.

Additionally, my doctor stated that their clinic's policy is to not permit VBAC (or TOLAC) patients to exceed 40 weeks and they do NOT induce them (due to the medications causing increased risk of uterine rupture).

I'm just feeling like the cards are well-stacked against me.

Anyone else hoping for a VBAC? What's your story?
