Is Freire a mainstream figure or thinker in LatAm? Would it be common to read Pedagogy of the Oppressed and other works in school? I am especially curious if he is read widely in Brasil.
I was born and raised in the US, and Freire is very popular among a certain type of circle, like leftist and liberation movements, but I wouldn’t say he is otherwise very well-known here. Curious to hear how he as a thinker and writer is treated in his own territory.
I have similiar questions about movements and ideologies such as liberation theology and liberation psychology (a là Ignacio Martín-Baró in El Salvador). These are relatively obscure at best in the US, but sprung specifically from a Latin American context. Are they well-known in your home?
Others are playing in the Europa League, have billions of euro in debt, their stadium is collapsing, have become Europe's laughing stock and have a joke of a squad. No legit coach wants to go there. They can barely sell anyone from that squad. Can't even compete for top 4 in La Liga anymore. Have no legit leader in that club. It's bad news after news.
While all of these are happening, RM is about to have one of the best stadiums in the world, no immediate debt, a top 5 squad in the world, complete stability within the club, leading La Liga and the CL group and you know we're spending like 300 mil in the summer, right?
Let's take a moment and truly appreciate the position we're in, a lot of it has to do with the fact that we've been blessed to have Don Florentino Pérez Rodríguez as our president.

Ja adianto que sou bem leigo no assunto, mas sempre achei estranho a direita criticar tanto o Paulo Freire, ontem mesmo meus chefes estavam reclamando do ensino publico e um deles largou " isso ai é culpa do método Paulo Freire".
O máximo que sei sobre o Freire é que ele foi um "gênio" da alfabetização para adultos, reconhecido internacionalmente, que além de ensinar pessoas que não tiveram nenhuma base educacional na infância, também os ensinava a ter consciência politica e pensamento critico ( me corrijam se eu estiver errado).
Mas o que vejo a direita reclamar é que as escolas adotam esse método e isso que fode com o sistema educacional do pais, olha, eu estudei minha vida inteira em escolas publicas, passei por 5 instituições diferentes e nunca nenhum professor tocou no nome de Paulo Freire, o modo qual aprendi as coisas na escola, é bem diferente do método que leio na internet que Paulo Freire pregava, meu ensino foi muito mais baseado no método de decorar as coisas do que realmente entende-las e debate-las.
Minha intenção com esse post não é criar um debate politico ou algo do tipo, queria apenas entender mesmo por que a direita odeia tanto algo que, pelo menos ao meu ver, nem é de fato aplicado nas escolas, ou, caso eu esteja errado e o método seja aplicado nas escolas brasileiras, qual é o método paulo freire então?
