A list of puns related to "Os Level Virtualisation"
I'm not sure what people use on Macs so I was wondering what the best virtualisation is for very simple OS dev work was. This is on an Intel Mac.
Hi there,
With COVID-19 and working from home, I'd like to install a Mac OS VM on my QNAP server which I can remote into (As I have the main computer home with me, but the files are massive so can't realistically FTP all the time).
Has anyone ever done this? Server specs are 32gb RAM with a 4 core intel i7, no dedicated graphics card although I could potentially get one installed. If you have done this or know how to please let me know, I'm a total newbie to Hackintosh but I do consider myself an expert on Mac OS. (Using root user etc doesn't phase me for instance).
I currently run ESXi 6.5 on my HP N40L microserver but I am thinking of changing this to something else due to vice tee being so resource hungry and eating 90% of the resources on this box, I have considered OpenStack, Leave ESXi, Hyper V, are there any others I should think about and why?
Hi,
I plan to set up a Mac Os X client and need to use Docker in it. AFAIK it is using a Linux VM to run the docker container in there.
Has anybody experience with this scenario?
Thanks for your input!
They there folks. I recently got a MacBook Pro -- the latest model (with Iris graphics). I have a situation.
I often need to use Virtual Studio on Windows, and it's common for me to do some work/testing on several Linux distributions. Before this, I was dual-booting on two separate machines, but now it's becoming something of an issue.
I tried Bootcamp, and I can say that I'm not a big fan of the experience. Drivers are too basic, and it's nearly impossible for me to code for long hours with Windows/X keyboard shortcuts on an Apple keyboard, and unoptimised support for the trackpad. Long story short, I ended up using VirtualBox with a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse.
The experience is quite sufficient, in that I mostly just type/compile/run in the VM (which is on the external monitor), and I can do anything else (browsing, search, file management) on OS X. That said, I'm not perfectly happy with VirtualBox. It works okay, but it often has resolution issues (especially when moving it from one screen to another), and graphics don't feel too optimised (which is especially important for me, as I often need to work with OpenGL).
tl;dr I'm trying to choose between Parallels and VMWare Fusion for my MacBook Pro to run Windows and Linux distros. I want something that just works, and is especially optimised for my machine and OS. I consider seamless integration with OS X ("launching Windows apps on Mac", too much shared access) a disadvantage, and I'll be happy if graphics are fast. Retina support would be nice, but not necessary.
What is the most tucked-in and optimised solution?
Hi guys, with upcomming Slackware 15, I was thinking I would use it as main OS.
My quetion is: can I have in it virtual machine with Windows for Adobe Creative suite apps? I'm using Photoshop and Premiere mostly.
A lifetime ago I was an avid FreeBSD user (5.x-7.x). I find myself exploring options for developing a self hosted cloud of compute resources (CPU and GPU) that we can allocate on demand to virtual machines that will be running Windows and Linux guests.
We have proof points with RHEL and oVirt, and I am wondering if there are BSD kernel based solution that are comparative from a feature/performance standpoint. Are there packages and configurations that people can suggest I explore.
Hello there.
I am a somewhat newbie to virtualisation. I am comfortable with VirtualBox on Win 10 host.
My cloud provider has given me a ubuntu ( ver 20.04 ) running on an arm64 dual core. It's limited to a command line only. I could install kde-desktop and can access the machine over xrdp gui. However, unfortunately I can't install VirtualBox. When I tried, got an error saying : package architecture (amd64) does not match system (arm64)
I would like to emulate Windows on my linux machine. I already have a VHD on my local laptop. How should I proceed? What are my options?
Some options may not be as straightforward as importing a vhd. I would be happy to try out different combinations. I googled, but couldn't find a definite direction. Please let me know your ideas.
Thank you! :-)

Morning everyone
Just curious to know what peopleβs choices are these days when it comes to virtualising a NAS OS. There are so many options out there itβs a little overwhelming. Iβm leaning towards Windows Server 2019 on my esx host but Iβm also looking at OMV. Donβt want anything over complex as itβs literally only going to serve files, any other services will be used inside a separate docker VM
Thank you
hiii, so i am planning to retake olevels as a private candidate this year⦠anybody wanna join like a telegram grp/ instagram grp⦠where we can in a sense help each other with questions and stuff?? also basically like supporting each other lah
i would use discord but i have no idea how to use it, but if you guys want jt its perfectly fine!!
i prefer instagram tho as we can create fake accounts if you guys are uncomfortable with ur mainsβ¦.
made a telegram link! pls dm me for it, i donβt want spammers inside
hey sorry again, i merge my gc with another one, just join my gc first and i will forward u to the other one
I followed the advice of a couple of people on this thread and tried installing the workaround for the WSA app thingy so I don't have to rely on BlueStacks, but couldn't do it because my computer says it doesn't support vitualisation.
My processor is i7-9750H. I looked it up and it says it does support virtualisation. I ran into problems when I tried to run Mac OSX in a virtual machine as well. I just could not get it to run.
I had a look in the BIOS and I have vitualisation enabled.
Perhaps there's a step I'm missing? Something I have to enable somewhere else?
Does this mean I won't be able to take advantage of Microsoft Android support?
If anyone has any tips, I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Edit: I'm not exactly sure if this type of post is allowed, but considering it's pertaining to Windows 11 and Android app support, perhaps there will be a number of people who may be caught out when the official support for Android apps rolls out.
I recently bought 8GB Ram 256GB SSD mini pc, to set up home lab. I have put 5 VMs on virtualbox 1 dedicated for pihole and consul on ubuntu/focal64 and one dedicated for dnsmasq and consul also on ubuntu focal64.
Rest 3 vms are docker swarm with 1 node as manager and other2 as worker and these vms are also running on bionic64.
All vms have 2mb video memory allocated 1 cpu and 1024MB of memory. Running all these has made the windows run very slow.
I use vagrant to deploy VMs. Am I right to use virtualbox for virtualisation? Have I made acceptable choices for using ubuntu focal OS for running vms? Currently when I open virtualbox box ui on the macgine it further add to sluggishness and so does Microsoft Edge browser and sometimes i edit directly on it using vs code. Which to slows machine down.
How further i can push without loosing performance or infact gaining if i can make any improvements!
Hey everyone,
I am considering using OpenBSD as my daily driver OS, however on rare occasions I need to use Windows and Linux for my job. I know that Linux virtualisation is cli only, however I was wondering if it is possible to connect to that VM via VNC to have a GUI or is it something that is just not going to work? I have also read that Qemu is supported on OpenBSD, but only with software acceleration and therefore it is slow. Does anybody use it and how slow is it? My only use case for windows is basically open documents that get messed up in Libreoffice, so I don't need it to be particularly fast, but slow to the point of unusable is also not an option for me.
So Os ended for almost two months already, and I feel like I've been wasting my holiday. I didn't get a job and I didn't pick up any skills while it feels like everyone else is getting their life together.
I had a dance exam after Os and had many rehearsals that demanded a lot of my time, so i didnt bother finding a job. After the exam ended, I've been spending my days watching kdramas with my dog. Basically, I've not been doing any productive at all, I'm not even socialising with my friends because I naturally prefer staying at home, which is making me feel useless but I can't seem to do anything about it because I feel as if I used up all of my willpower and energy to do productive things.
Am I the only one who's acting this way? Also, any tips?
I have a synology DS220+ with docker and I was wanting to look for something low powered and not too expensive to pair with it for running something not too high stress so I don't need to keep my HP DL360P running all of the time (noisy).
The stuff I was thinking of using it for is low CPU stuff like pihole and Murmur (to start with).
I've seen some people slate raspberry pis for being expensive for what they are so by extension there must be a better option but I don't want to spend huge amounts either (like Nucs and some of the i5 i7 sff PCs are a bit of a stretch at Β£100-200).
To be honest I kind of want a couple of these in the end to play with kubernetes, docker, ansible etc.
hiii as the title says im sec 4 this yr and am in a dilemma and low self esteem in my grades... basically i am good at lang and humanities and would like to aim for biomed in sp or eunoia jc but i am very afraid and worried that my grades will never take me to those places as my l1r5 for sec 3 overall was 23(due to leadership roles, poor mental health and adjusting to sec 3++ very competitive classmates)....my sciences and maths are all Cs...despite getting all As in lower sec... but i have interest in science poly courses. is there any advice or encouragement on what i should do from now on, will appreciate any! πββοΈ
add on: also my scores in sec 3 were so inconsistent >< i had f9 for amath for wa2 then a1 in wa3 and then for eoy i was really closed to passing the paper so im quite happy with my improvπ
Hi. I'm planning to run a fedora on my framework but will need to run a windows VM to host an IIS .net application and run a couple of bits of development software.
Can anyone tell me if the i5 processor will be enough for this? is there any benefit in having an i7 for a development and productivity box? Anyone have any other virtualisation wisdom they can share?
Helloooo!! Since im a fresh sec4 and sometimes get distracted a bit too much i plan to make a telegram study group to keep being motivated!! My friend told me abt how she and her grp of friends had one so i figured I'd make one!!!
Basically ig its just gnna be peer pressure HAHAHA like ig we can write down at the start for each person what we plan to do for the day and shit and at the end say what we did finish at the end of the day and stuff. And ofc, if u dk how to do any qns can send and if anyone know how to do can help and stuff. I just really wish we can all help each other achieve our goal in O levels so yeah!! We can just share whatever educational stuff and yeah. Just all suffer tgt πππ
Maybe drop down your telegram usernames and ill add you?
I was told it was possible to use bluestacks 5 without virtualization or Hyper V,
But when I run it, it seems to be trying to force be to give persmission for Hyper-v Even though my PC doesnt have it enabled and because im using a cloud PC I cannot enable it.

Also, would you have to access the internet using the Tor browser while connected to a Tor server via ProtonVPN running on a Microsoft OS to get a comparable level of security to running these in a Tails OS? Or does running Tor through a Microsoft OS compromise all attempts at privacy?
Hey all,
I have been learning and working with Rust (webshit) in the last year and I would consider myself having a sufficient understanding of the basics in order to continue to more challenging projects.
For a long time I wanted to get into lower level programming i.e operating system level, drivers, networking etc.
Do you have any tips regarding cool projects in the field? Obviously it's not Rust specific, but it will be more fun with Rust.
Thinking about cloud threat models, is there a solution that exists that can encrypt an OS at the RAM/CPU level to further restrict hosting providers ability to reach, view and use a machine outside of the usual disk encryption. While I am sure itβs a a long shot but there does exist a possibility where <insert cloud host here> can access the machine from a local terminal via their hosting infrastructure or dump the RAM on the hypervisor. Is there any way or value in preventing that or is it just a risk that has to be accepted when using a cloud provider?
Title
Deep Rock Galactic freezes after an insignificant amount of play time. Looped sounds/music continue until the loop restarts, after which is complete silence. Currently it is impossible for me to progress in any significant way in the game. Happens regardless of internet connection, number of players, operating system (including Windows), proton version (not that you guys probably care about that), time of day, weather, ambient pressure, sun alignment, etc. The reason I mention Linux at all is to show that this is NOT A LINUX PROBLEM, this happens on Windows, too.

... keep reading on reddit β‘so basically, my computer's BIOS has permanently disabled virtualisation (even though it has support for VTX). But, if I wanna run GUI apps on wsl2, do I need virtualisation? if not, is there a way to run GUI apps on wsl1?
cheers!
