Coin luster. I collect for the intrinsic value but I noticed the difference in luster in these 2 coins. To the numismatists, does the difference account for a difference in value? The shinier coin has a "w" on it, what is the meaning? Thanks

ANCIENT GREEK COINS struck before 500 BCE are called β€œarchaic” by numismatists. Actually, archaic features continue to appear on coins for at least another century or so. Male and female faces on many of these coins bear a faint, enigmatic smile, something that is also found in sculpture and vase pa coinweek.com/ancient-coin…

So I posted this on Silver Squeeze yesterday as I am truly curious; I got 5 of these platypus $2 coins and I believe they are mint errors. Any numismatists out there have a theory? Does it increase value? I’m just a stacker, but I’d like to hear thoughts….

Looking for fair and reputable coin/currency dealer (Numismatist) that can appraise a coin collection.

As the title says, looking for someone to appraise a coin collection for a relative somewhere in the city. Just want to make sure it’s someone we can somewhat trust before we turn over a collection blindly. Any recommendations/experience welcome.

New member here - long time numismatist

https://imgur.com/a/447zObl I started off in the UK when I was a kid - picking up coins when the coinage changed - either keeping the old or getting sets of the new, but very casual

The first set I tried to collect coming to the US was the state quarters. I decided to collect 2 rolls of each state - one from each mint. Originally I got a bunch of sets direct from the mint, but then started to miss some of the launches. I picked up a few gaps from eBay but I noticed that even some of those that claimed to be unopened had clearly been opened (abs presumably searched). I know mine aren’t, but I’m ok that people wouldn’t believe that

My goal was to get a β€œP” and β€œD” roll from every state, but I’m ok not having all 100 - it’s just something to hang on to and pass down to kids / grand kids. Who knows, maybe in 2121, they’ll be worth more than face

I’m going to post some more of my collections over time - as I get them organized. - most of it was opportunistic like I mentioned, but I’m starting to get more deliberate in my LCS purchases. As I organize I might start to fill in some gaps
