A list of puns related to "Non Carbon Society"
Runner wanting to start triathlons. Completely new to biking; though I have been attending indoor spin classes since August. Wanting to cross an Ironman off my bucket list in 2-3 years. After that, we'll see if I keep going or not. A shop is selling a couple of used carbon bikes for less than $2k each, but I'm wondering if it's actually important that I start out with carbon. And I'm wondering if starting on a heavier bike will be a good thing in regard to my fitness.
Here is my question: is it OK if I start training on a low end bike or a non-race bike? For example, one local shop is selling a used aluminum 2009 CAAD 9 for $500. I'm also open to getting a new commuter or gravel bike (so that I can get miles in by biking to work).
Due to current market conditions, I don't feel comfortable dropping $1.5-2k when I haven't seen many options yet and when haven't even tried out the sport yet. Here's what I'm thinking: go ahead and train on a non-ideal bike NOW for a few reasons:
A) to buy myself more time to research before spending over $1k and
B) to see if road biking is something I really want to spend 100s of miles doing.
C) to get strength training from a heavier bike. <--Does this sound like a good reason?
My goals for year 2022:
bank lot of miles at an arrow position so that I can more easily transition to a Tri/TT bike in a couple years.
Get in good enough shape to find and keep up with a road biking group by this Spring.
If you think I CAN meet these goals with a non-ideal bike, would it have to be a regular road bike (like the CAAD 9), or could I get by with putting road wheels on a gravel bike?
TLDR; Is it OK for a runner to start his bike training (for triathlons) on a non-race bike (aluminum frame road bike or a carbon bike)? Or will I need a race bike NOW to keep up with bike groups?

Hello all, my knife condensing tour continues. Up for sale (maybe trade?) are the last two of my higher end knives. The only trades of interest are a Koenig Arius or a Shiro of some sort (no Micarta). Will also consider other CRK trades. Yolo will trump all else. No notes in PayPal. Please PM for more pics if needed for some reason, but video shows condition.
Up first is a Knife Art Carbon Sebenza 21 with a rarer Insingo blade. This was sharpened and lightly carried by the previous owner, and only has very minor snail trails. It includes the original lanyard, patch, and docs. Looking for $600 traded on this one.
Second is a new, never used, never carried, never cut, Hinderer Fullered Non-Flipper in M390 with battle blue from DLT. This one has great action as seen in the video. I haven't even flipped it much. Includes box and extra washers. Looking for $500 sold on this one.
Why? Why not?
Homelessness caused by drug addiction is not citizens problem, we shouldnβt foot the bill for their bad personal choices.
Canada providing free housing to homeless is already an issue in downtown area, and now they have trial running on providing free βsafe drugsβ to users.
Itβs crazy the amount of damage they caused to business/people everyday, they get arrested and released the same day.
And if youβre gonna provide housing, please place them in suburb northern region, so at the very least we could see some work being done in remote community.
Make them work for it not freebies.

Starkk? In soul society. Orihime's brother? In the soul society. All of the Sternreiters? In the soul society(or hell). Gin? Naw, he's just fockin dead :D
I think climate change is the greatest existential threat that humanity faces, but I donβt know how we can prevent damage to the environment without some kind of centralized state to enact taxes on carbon or to fine people for oil spills and stuff
How can anarchism be reconciled with environmentalism, if itβs possible?
When I see scenes on television or in films, of people having happy interactions in society with other people, going on dates, forming relationships, feeling safe in public, meeting life milestones... I get incredibly jealous, and I also get this feeling that this is like... "cis people stuff" that is shut off from me.
In my case, I feel like I need to be anxious all the time because a not-insignificant number of the people around me would prefer that I was dead, and if I was in trouble, they may push me off a cliff sooner than render aid.
I am maybe 4 years into transitioning medically, and it's been 5 years since I've been in a relationship or been treated well on a date by a man or a woman, or been kissed or hugged. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I've gone out with someone, they seem fun and cool in video chat, only to be dehumanizing and abusive in public, and it's months before I want to do it again, for the sheer anxiety.
I pass only conditionally, and people can often clock me. I use the men's room in a woman's presentation, because I am terrified of being beaten to death in the women's, and I also feel explosive anxiety and have awful encounters in the men's room.
I look around in public, and I think about how the people there are out living their lives and participating in society, and I am struggling to survive in the same environment they are thriving in, like I live in a private combat-zone superimposed over everyone else's world. I feel like I may die never having experienced a basic human life where I share mutual love with other people, that all school children expect to experience. I have to believe the anxiety my life is costing me is harming my health in a big way.
The generally accepted reason we use a base 10 (decimals) number system is that we have 10 fingers and it made the most sense to us when we were learning about numbers. So if you're introducing a non-human race, why should they necessarily use base 10?
Think of the possibilities:
I know the concept has been used before, but it deserves exploration and it could be a great tool for helping to make your alien cultures seem that little bit more alien
I'm writing a novel that starts in the present day and explores how society changes after an unusual event. There's a load of books out there where the event is an apocalypse, however I wondered if anyone could recommend any books for inspiration where it's some other kind of event?
I think Nicaragua is a country on the way up. Once developed it will be an economic powerhouse in Central America.
Let's say that a world worships Khorne for his martial discipline and military stuff but without the boner for mass murder
Can they work as a functional society or they will inevitably become fucked in the head?
I have seen alot of articles talking along the lines that 2030 is when climate change is irreversible but when is it going to be deadly to the survival of the human race? If it will happen in our lifetime, this seems absurd that we are detailing future plans for cities and economies when climate change is going to wipe it all away.
Edit: I am seeing alot of comments that estimate effects of climate change coming into play soon in the next few decades getting downvoted. Is this not the case that we are facing? I would love to see some opposing views if there is a large disagreement to the timeline.
If the majority of members of a polity agree with the non-aggression principle, then they will probably propose and vote for policies which are consistent with the non-aggression principle.
Assuming there are other benefits to having group decision making systems and deliberation, would it not be more beneficial to have both democracy and the Non-aggression principle?
Regardless, for any principle (including the non-aggression principle) you are going to get minority or majority rule and enforcement. In both scenarios, there is potential for unethical decisions to be made.
As development of North America's only lithium-boron deposit accelerates, aspiring lithium producer ioneer (ASX: INR) has co-sponsored a "first of its type event" featuring an electric vehicle (EV) rally across the United States.
The EV rally, dubbed Charge Across America, is a 10-day event that pits five teams against each other from New York to Los Angeles.
The goal of the event is to demystify electric vehicles and highlight recent achievements in the field.
The global shift to electric vehicles, according to ioneer managing director Bernard Rowe, is key to the company's lithium production plan.
It is a simple question, really, and I hope we can all openly discuss facts, develop logic, and gain insight into the current situation in New Zealand.
Question: Why is there such a strong government push to exclude people who chose to not get the covid-19 vaccine from society?
Vaccine passports, checkpoints, scanning in, booster shots, these are all very serious topics that should not be taken lightly. For businesses they are an added cost and frustration, for most people they are inconvenient and anxiety-inducing, but for the vaccinated they are a tool for social exclusion.
This is quite serious, don't you think? Under what circumstances is such exclusion deemed necessary, and what is its logical justification?
If the vast majority of people who are at-risk, including older folks and those with co-morbidities have already been vaccinated which is now the case in New Zealand, then why is there such a push to exclude those who have decided to maintain the default position of not getting this particular vaccine?
Do the non-vaccinated pose a risk to the vaccinated? Of course not. The vaccine and its boosters should be protecting you, right? However the vaccine does not completely stop someone from carrying the virus and infecting others, right? If you are vaccinated you will not get sick, but you may infect others! As for me, I do not have anything protecting me except luck and my immune system. Thus I am the one who is most vulnerable and at risk it would seem!
Thus if many like me get sick, the justification must be that our hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed. But those who are at personal risk of being hospitalized (the sick, older folks, and otherwise immune compromised) have already taken the vaccine, no?
So that leaves just the non-vaccinated, that vague tribe of people who for each their own reason have decided to just stay the way things are. Whatever that reason is does not really matter though because it is our human right to choose what we do with our bodies, right? This vaccine, as with all medical procedures is and should always be opt-in, consent-based, and not coerced under any circumstances, right? Heck, maybe people like me are choosing not to take it even though we have all been inoculated against things like measles and mumps, just because we think there is a line in the sand to be drawn here.
