A list of puns related to "Navvy"
Maybe 30 years ago I read a scifi book about a world in which humans lived a hunted life. Smaller robots were called Navvy's. There was referenced to 'boots on top, meaning whoever is on top keeps their boots on in case there was a need to defend or run. The AI overlords would also produce human organic 'art'.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Hey there! I run a small modded youtube SMP, with mods such as ancient warfare, flans, immersive engineering, traincraft, and many more. Our server has just entered the industrial era, and we are looking to build international railways to connect each of the three teams, goods lines to transport resources from farm to factory, and passenger lines to transport villagers and players domestically. If you are interested in shaping the future a unique server, please let me know your discord so I can add you :)
Does anyone have a YouTube video of hog eye navvy's cover of Whup Jamboree? I am just missing that . It was the only song I knew and I would jump for joy when they played it at the restaurant my dad would take me to every Saturday. I wish I could see them live again.
I think that the book was partially told in flashback from the POV of the girl currently in jail, who I think had some sort of mental disability that meant she was an easy target. I think the murdered man had been harassing her or something and that was why everyone assumed that she had done it. There may also have been another POV of someone investigating but I donβt remember anything about this.
I think it was set in winter, in a small village, and that a red cloak or cape had something to do with it - this may have been on the cover but Iβm not certain.
I think the climactic bit was either at her trial, where she was going to be sentenced to death, or it might have been after the trial and she was about to be executed - something important like that - and it was revealed to the reader that the real murderer was a navvy - I remember that really clearly because it was how I learned the word. However I donβt remember if the navvy actually gets caught or if the girl ends up being freed.
It may have been a Point book or something similar. I think Iβd have read it about 2000 and probably would have got it from the school library, so Iβm almost certain it was YA fiction.

Overview
This is my third attempt now at buying bespoke shoes second-hand - see my last one here with these bespoke George Cleverley's which was almost, but not quite, successful.
Continuous repetition of the same thing expecting a different outcome may well seem insane to you - there is some squeamishness around buying used shoes, let alone used shoes that were specifically shaped around another person's foot. For me, the allure around the companies that make these shoes (John Lobb, Foster & Son, G.J. Cleverley et al) combined with a RRP that I am probably a good few decades/centuries from affording is a sufficient draw to keep on trying to buy them.
The previous attempts went wrong because it's a complete crap-shoot in terms of whether they will fit or not. They were literally made with somebody else in mind, and you can only hope that person's foot is sort of the same shape as yours. So caveat emptor (and make sure they have a good returns policy) if you're going down this road.
Hopefully, you'll agree it's a worthwhile review, because for a brand with so much heritage, there are very few in depth reviews of John Lobb St James shoes online. For good or ill, their customer base just doesn't overlap that much with people who post photos of their shoes on the internet. They must be off buying horses and looking at stock tickers, or whatever the rich do.
The purchase process
Having angled for a robust pair of black derbies for a while, when these came up on Classic Shoes for Men I jumped on the chance.
They were punchily priced at Β£800 - a lot, but the condition was essentially new, the style exactly what I wanted, and the site has a very comprehensive returns policy even if it's for fit reasons, so there isn't the same risk as buying on eBay. After some quick email exchanges discussing sizing with the site owner
... keep reading on reddit β‘I think you can become a pilot right ? But apart from that, what jobs are there in the navy and air force? Anyone who has any experience with them?
In cooperation with the Chinese labour force working from the west, they built the railways across North America. But who were the Navvies really?
