A list of puns related to "National Insurance Number"
Hi,
I've been trying to figure this one out, hopefully someone here has an idea.
I'm currently a student at university, I've only ever had two jobs.
Job 1 from 2019-2021 paid me on the incorrect NI number for most of my employment, and was rectified when I picked up on it. My online HMRC personal tax account has all the correct information for this employment.
Job 2 from 2021- has also paid me on the same incorrect NI number (likely from my P45). I just picked up on this today when I got my first payslip. This employment hasn't yet shown up on my online tax account.
I have updated my NI number with my new employer. My concern is getting back any deducted tax, as well as the status of my student loan/NI contributions.
So I applied for a NIN Bachk in September and I sent all my documents on the 23rd of September. Yesterday marked the 16 week deadline since I sent all the necessary documents but I haven't received anything. Should I be worried?
I have called them 11 times today and everytime I'm cut off almost immediately. I know they say there's a large number of people calling but you would expect for there to be a queue at least or a "we'll call u later when someone is available" like with the NHS
Is there anything I can do to get an update, or will I never hear from them until the NIN arrives?
I had a discussion with my family about this earlier, and my parents in particular were shocked that I donβt know my NI number off by heart.
Am I that weird? Who here can remember their NI number without having to look it up each time?
I arrived like a month ago in England, I registered to get a national insurance number on the gov.uk website and someone from ninodirect contacted me to make a payment for the application is that normal ?
Hey! New to the UK and have applied for NI number. They say it will take 16 weeks to arrive. Has anyone applied for one recently and how long did it take? Thanks!!
I recently took a job in the UK that would pay Β£18,000 but I haven't applied for a national insurance number yet. Can anyone tell me how much should I expect to be paid after taxes and stuff? and since I don't have a national insurance number yet, would that affect my salary pretty bad?
Just realised the number I have saved in my notes (which i have used to apply for student finance, get paid from jobs etc) is actually my sisters. The phone lines are closed now until tomorrow, i donβt know how much iβve done using that NIN or what the implications areβ¦ any tips/ comments/ advice welcome!
Hi AskUk,
Wonder can someone help me out. I started working in Northern Ireland while living in Ireland but now live in England but it wasn't until I seen on this page that I should be updating my UK NIN but never did. I believe it still uses my Irish home address is this bad and any advise on what I should do or just leave it be. I'm a UK resident now 7 years with everything apart from that changed to the UK. Thanks.
Thanks.
So today I received a letter from HMRC saying that I'm owed a refund on tax paid for the 2019-2020 financial year, and a cheque for about a grand. Happy days.
The only issue is that my national insurance number is incorrect on the letter and cheque remittance. All of my other details are correct (name, address, employer, salary details) however the cheque itself only has my name on it. My national insurance number is correct on my payslips, p60 and every other document, this is the first time I've received a letter where it's been incorrect.
Am I okay to lodge this cheque and follow up on the NI number after, or should I sort this out first? Should I even worry about it at all?
Any help appreciated, cheers.
[UPDATE]: I did some more research and it seems that the NI number on the letter matches the format of a TRN (Temporary Reference Number).
I arrived in the UK in Jan 2020 for work and didn't receive my national insurance number until May 2020. This would make me think that the letter and cheque is legit, as I would likely have been given a TRN for those first few months working before the financial year ended in April.
So I think I'm in the clear, would be great to hear if anyone else has experienced this particular scenario.
Hello everyone,
For those of you who already received BRP for the graduate visa, could you kindly let me know if there is a national insurance number on it? I'm still waiting for my BRP to be delivered (-_-) and would like to apply for the number tomorrow if it doesn't come with the BRP. Thank you a ton!
People who hold a spouse visa, was your national insurance available on ur BRP card? or did u hav to apply for it? can you apply for it before collecting ur brp?
I have been on hold for an hour now, the music is driving me insane, and I'm wondering if nobody actually works there and they're just counting on people giving up after 15 minutes...
As a wise women once said: "We are sorry. But all our customer service agents are busy at the moment. Please hold, and we will answer your call as soon as possible."
I checked my national insurance record and found the following:
You have:
β21 years of full contributions 29 years to contribute before 5 April 2050 2 years when you did not contribute enoughβ
I thought 35yrs were now required but is the above because of straddling old and new schemes?
Do I only need 8 more years to qualify for a full state pension?
Thank you
Got my NIN in the mail today (18 August) - sent all the documents to them on 16 April. Total wait 17 weeks 5 days.
Good luck to everyone still waiting!
I have been offered my first job but as of yet I haven't updated my national insurance card to have my new name, although I have updated my Passport and Drivers License etc. will this be an issue?
My BRP says Work Permitted and I can provide a share code if they want. I have applied at Amazon and got invited to the next step but the email says "upload BRP with proof of NI".
Is there even a chance for me to apply for jobs and get a job without it? 16 weeks is a long time. Add to that my wait time for my FLR M. I'm becoming a burden and badly need to get a job soon as my savings are fast depleting.
Thank you in advance for replies and tips!
I've got my first job in the UK. I have a pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (includes right to work). Should I get a National Insurance Number as well? Is there any chance I will have to pay more taxes or something like that?
Hi,
I started work for a UK company last month and moved to the UK at the end of September, and immediately applied online for a NIN. Unfortunately I misread the email and only realised today when I went looking for an update - I thought they would send me an update but actually I had to contact them for an appointment first. I left the UK last week for a two week trip abroad (EU) for dental treatment and when I called them they said they couldn't give me an appointment as I'm not currently in the UK and to call when I get back.
Now, I'm certain I'm massively overthinking this, but I have extreme anxiety problems and so can't help it - I am wondering if anyone knows what I need to bring / prove at this appointment? I'm asking because the person on the phone mentioned needing to declare when I was abroad and now I'm terrified I have committed some major crime by going abroad before getting my NIN number.
I'm Irish so I have no visa requirements to live / work / travel between the UK and EU.
Hello, I recently got my UK student visa and I saw on the conditions that I could work part time here. Would I be needing a national insurance number to do that ? Is it a different number than the IHS number I already have?
The uk gov website says
If you have a biometric residence permit (BRP)
If you have aΒ biometric residence permit (BRP), you might have a National Insurance number already - it will be printed on the back of yourΒ BRP.
For which visa and for what cases it is true?
Hi Guys, I applied NI number mid May and still havenβt received it. I checked with the web advisor and they say they donβt have my records?? Then I called NI and I provided my reference number they provided when I post my passport copy and forms etc, they still canβt find my record??? Then I ask if I can reapply they say I cannot?? How is that possible??
Ps: does it affect the application if I applied it when I donβt have a job yet, cuz I was studying in Leicester at that time now I move to London and start working. Also, my address change cuz Iβm no longer stay in Leicester but I canβt change cuz I have no recordβ¦ itβs a loop..
Send help π’π’π’
hi, im applying for my provisional driving licence and i need to send in a "letter showing my NI number", since I lost my NI card. I have a Christmas bonus letter from the dwp with my NI number on the top left saying to use this as a reference... my question is can I use this? or do I need to request some sort of special letter? i cant request one online as I do not have the proof and it will take 3 weeks to do it by post so i was hoping this would be enough thanks.
I just recently received my national insurance number (EU National). I started my first job back in September 2020 and worked at this company until the end of March 2021. I did not have my NI number then as this was the height of coronavirus and so applications were closed. I received a P45 from them once I left which I then gave to my new (current) employer. I believe I was on the 1250L tax code.
Since receiving my NI number, I logged into my personal tax account just to check things out however they say I've paid the right amount of tax and HMRC has no record of me being employed in this tax year. How do I go about correcting this?
I've been working without an NI number up until this past week so I'm quite confused as to what needs to be done to make sure my contributions are being accounted for. I am leaving my current job at the end of this month and will be starting a new job in October so is this something that will be sorted between that time once I receive my P45 from this job?
Hi all,
I have very recently arrived in the UK thanks to a visa and I'm trying to get my NIN.
I filled the online form on gov.uk, which lead to the generation of a reference number for my application and asked me to contact the designated service to schedule an appointment. I called twice and each time I was suggested to print and fill the CA5400D form and send them to th address indicated on said form along with a copy of my passport. So far so good, right? The problem is that I cannot find the damned CA5400D on gov.uk. What am I doing wrong? Thanks,
A frustrated Redditor
EDIT: hi fellas, just wanted to update this post by stating that last week (first week of November) I finally received my National Insurance Number in the mail.
Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice. My sister is trying to rent a room up in the North of England and landlords are asking her to provide her National Insurance number (alongside passport and proof of income) to apply for the rooms that they have on offer. Is this normal? I have rented all my life in London and haven't had to provide anything like that. I don't know if this is normal practice elsewhere or whether this is something she should be refusing to do.
I've looked online and have seen some websites recommending that landlords ask for this information to guarantee that they get "good tenants", but nothing on official guidelines for prospective tenants' rights.
Pretty nervous for her because there is no guarantee she'd actually be given any of these rentals - they could simply choose someone else and still have all her info on file. It's handing over everything that anyone would need to steal her identity, to be honest.
Any advice is most welcome at this point. She needs somewhere to stay pretty urgently so I don't want her to ruin her chances of finding a room, but if anyone has any guidance they can share on how to handle this situation, that would be great. Thank you!
Hiya folks from the UK
Iβm a student here on a tier 4 visa and would like to try my hand in stock trading using Revolut. However I canβt get past where you input the National Insurance number - I dont have one either cause I havenβt got the chance to work here yet (sadly). What can I do?
Thanks anyone
I have a certificate or letter stating what it is. I also have it saved on my phone. So when I need it to fill out a form I just look it up.
My mum knows it by heart. I dont know if she is being extra or if other people know theres by heart too.
Do I need to know it by heart? Is there any other information people memorise?
Hi guys, Iβm applying for a NINO and have already sent off my CAD form and photocopied documents about a month ago. However, there has been no updates and Royal Mail tracking did not say if the letter arrived or not. Did anyone experience the same problem? Should I mail in another CAD form and photocopied documents again? Thanks!
Something has been really bothering me lately and i'd like to ask the people of Reddit on your theories. I recently discovered that my dad has my National Insurance Number (UK) written down in his private records. I've never given it to him or anyone else, I've always kept it private where nobody can find it. Why would he want to have it in the first place, would it benefit him in any way? And most importantly, how did he even get it? This is really stressing me out. He doesn't even have both of my older sisters NIN written down (I'm a 24 year old adult btw), just mine. I'm worried if him having it is his way of controlling me in some way or if it might be another reason. And before anyone asks, I did try having a conservation with him about this but it just ended in him lashing out and never answering the question. I'll never get the answer from him. I'd just like to know what you all think as I find this so weird and creepy.
Not sure how protected it needs to be, but our payslips come in a password protected form, so I'm not sure what's the norm.
Hello,
I consulted for a few months March-May. Earned Β£1500 before the beginning of the next tax year. I have no other earnings, but believe that I need to declare this anyway?
Firstly, I have an invoice for the entire of April, would I be required to somehow prove that I earned Β£250 before the 5th and the rest of that invoice thereafter?
When I went to fill out the self-assessment form, it kept giving me an error that my national insurance number was incorrect. I clicked through a few links on the online gateway and found my number there, exactly the same as the one I have always used except that instead of ending with a C it ends with an A.
I've given my new employer the one with the C, and always given the one with the C to everyone from credit checks to student finance to everything and never had a problem. Am I about to run into a boatload of trouble? What do I need to do?
Thanks.
