I was at my friend's place and she had that Naoise Dolan book exciting times that was everywhere a few years ago or whenever it came out. I was flipping through and I read this passage where the main character is meeting up with this wealthier woman she knows at a french tea room. The wealthier woman orders thΓ© au citron but mispronounces it, and the main character has this internal dialogue because she wants to belittle the woman, so she changes her order to also order the lemon tea, but says it in english on purpose, then she repeats herself in french with the proper pronunciation.
I thought this was so dumb and funny, the main character in this situation is obviously a neurotic weirdo, and the other woman just mispronounced a word in a language she didn't know, while still attempting it in the language, at least. So I was like okay the main character is just an insecure sad sack who wishes she was upper class while pretending to hate them or something.
Anyway i googled a review of the book and the LA times brought up the tea scene and said "This evisceration of class tension feels scalpel-sharp"
Haha what!! Come on! It seriously read like some smug weirdo remembering the time she knew basic french pronunciation and someone else didn't. It's just an internal dialogue that someone with an inferiority complex would have. Today when I left my apartment a man in bare feet was chanting "women are the bitch, les femmes sont des bitch" over and over again in a sing song tune. I wondered why he chose to use the anglophone bitch in both cases even though he was clearly a francophone. Naoise dolan come to montreal someone call the LA times.
Anyway didn't read the book obviously so maybe shouldn't make fun u can tell me if it's good and all.

We all know that Siegfried, Naoise, and Stan have the blood of the True Dragons circulating in their bodies so they can escape death (Siegfried in the SIEGFRIED Event flashbacks; Naoise in Scathacha's Lv. 100 Fate Episode; and Stan in Boots and Blades Event). Assuming that Naoise's and Stan's dragon blood are also activated, would their lifespan be extended way, way more than that of the humans and erunes? Since it is proved in Siegfried (Fire)'s Fate Episode that when the dragon blood running in one's veins are activated, his body transforms to that of a dragon (tho I am not certain if he would turn to a real dragon or similar to Chulainn or Grea's situation), so it might make sense if their lifespan would go closer to that of a dragon's.
If that's the case, then I would weep for Stan and Siegfried since they'll witness the death of their companions (especially Aliza's, I can imagine Stan's emotional drama) while they are practically not aging since the activation, due to the fact that they are aging hundreds (maybe thousands) of times slower (Naoise would be fine, he has Scathacha/Deirdre anyway).
What do you guys think?
I recently finished Normal People by Sally Rooney and I absolutely loved it. By chance found Naoise Dolan's Exciting Times at a thrift store the next day and have been enjoying it so far. Both books are very similar and I really love the tone, writing style and wry humour. Any recommendations for similar novels? Doesn't have to be Irish specifically but I am keen to dive into more irish literature given how much I enjoyed these ones. Thanks!
Hello everyone! My name is Skele. Some of you know me on the Discord server; here on the subreddit I have lurked for some time before posting for the first time today. One of my favorite games in the series is Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War; despite being well-loved, Genealogy has yet to get a character analysis series like βBonding Bladeβ for FE6 or βThe A-Listβ for FE7. Seeing that today is the 24th anniversary of Genealogyβs release, we are premiering a new series, Examining the Crusaders, in which we will analyze the character of each unit in FE4. Today we are starting with Naoise, Loyal Knight of Chalphy; we will then go in recruitment order for Generation 1 and end in Sigurd, after which we proceed to generation 2. I also apologize in advance for any formatting errors if there are any; this should get better as I make more posts and get more familiar with how Reddit works.
------
Naoise (also known as Noish) is a cavalier from Chalphy. He is one of the three Chalphy knights who is in your party alongside Sigurd when the game starts. Naoise is a bit dry on dialogue; in fact, there are only three places in the entire game where he speaks which is less than any other playable character in the entire game. Regardless, there is still a cohesive and consistent characterization to analyze as we find that Naoise, much like other Cain archetypes, is a serious yet loyal knight.
------
Opening cutscene in Prologue: The news that Edain is in danger of being abducted violently from Jungby by the Verdanians reaches Chalphy. Sigurd responds to this by choosing to attempt to fight off the Verdanians and save Edain by himself; he leaves Chalphy under the guardianship of Naoise. However, Naoise refuses to stay at home in Chalphy. Instead he says that he would rather die by Sigurdβs side than allow Sigurd to die alone, a sentiment that Alec agrees with. After Sigurd agrees to allow Naoise, Alec, and Oifey to accompany him, Naoise points out that Chalphy needs to be defended; this is a hint at the fact that allowing the home castle to be seized by the enemy results in a game over. Alec then volunteers Arden to take on that task, after which the gameplay begins.
This is the most that Naoiseβs character is really established. He has a calmer head than Sigurd and seems to think through things more carefully than Sigurd does given that he talks the latter out of attempting to fight a

This upstanding knight embarked on a long voyage of atonement. It has broadened his mind and his perceptions of right and wrong. He has earned the title of hero, just as his father once did. May he and his companions stride forth with the true dragon's blessing, unsullied by the blood spilled all around them.

Although the crown prince and princess have given up the throne, Naoise still does what he can for the people of Irestill. He descends upon the beaches of Auguste to safeguard Seruel and Heles for a mission, stripping off his armor as a symbol of trust. Although the True Dragon Dierdre and others in the crew often tease him, it is all in good jest for a fun-filled time at the summer beach.
