Sorry for the serious thread on Christmas eve, but I think doing it later will make the news about it fade away.
So, as it turns out, hundreds of babies in Haiti have been the result of sexual activity between Haitian women/girls and the UN peacekeeping mission personnel. Girls as young as 11 were sexually abused and impregnated by these military men, often in exchange for money or food, and then abandoned pregnant when these were going back to their respective countries. Furthermore, most of the reported cases mention men from other Latin American countries being the main culprits of this, being frequently pointed out how Uruguayans were the ones most often referenced as committing these acts, something worrying considering that Brazilians troops were actually more numerous but were still behind them in number of reported cases. Something that's also not being talked about enough from my point of view is the fact that these were the girls whose abuse was apparent due to the pregnancy, the number of girls who were also abused during the occupation but who did not have a pregnancy is a number that will forever be obscured.
Did you all know about this? What's your opinion on this? Do you consider this could've been prevented?
Hurricane Matthew has struck Haiti with great force, leaving hundreds of Haitians dead and many more displaced, and causing huge infrastructural damage.
Being the largest contributor to the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), we propose some changes to the mission which will help Haiti through this crisis.

The amount of civilian help personnel should be increased. We will ourselves send 43 more people, consisting of doctors and other volunteers who will assist with disaster relief.

We will also send materiel support, supplies and aid to Haiti and urge other nations to do the same.

We petition the UNSC to extend the mandate of the mission until 2018.

SAN JOSE - Following the approval of the Legislative Assembly to reinforce the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), two battalion-sized units of the Fuerza Publica have been sent via chartered airliner to Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince. Accompanying them via DCH-4 Caribou were multiple Toyota Land Cruisers and Rav4s, Mitsubishi L200s, and other unarmoured and unarmed utility vehicles painted in UN white.
Approximately 1600 Fuerza Publica officers have joined the UN contingent, providing policing, security, law enforcement, and logistical support services.
This is far from Costa Rica's first peacekeeping mission, with personnel previously being deployed in Cambodia in the early 90's.
It is hoped that the UN mission, under the command of Brazil's Lieutenant General Ajax Porto Pinheiro, will recognize the results of the recent Haitian referendum and support President Brazar's regime in stabilizing and rebuilding the fragile island nation.
Police Commissioner Serge Therriault, from Canada, could not be reached for comment regarding the addition of Costa Rican officers to his force.

So, Brazil was leading a 13 year old United Nations peace mission in Haiti, the Brazilian army commander says that the country now has conditions to keep peace on their own. As a Brazilian I wonder what Haitians think about this peace mission, if it brought any good or any bad and what were the consequences of Brazilian forces on Haitian soil, so any insight would be appreciated. I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
