So, I know some of you have been asking for an update, and I've had some very annoying interactions with our favorite Millennial, so hopefully I don't disappoint:
So over the last few weeks Mike has been pretty pleased with himself. He was given tasks that make him feel like he's contributing to the company, and that he's important. A "vital" component of the company. I'd disagree, but I digress.
We've all gotten used to his ridiculous behaviors:
- Always late by at least 5 minutes
- Immediately proceeds to the kitchen to get coffee
- Then spends 10-15 mins in the washroom
Anyway.. one of his most recent tasks was recording and live watching a meeting through the internet. He was required to take minutes of the meetings which generally lasted all day. So, he would sit at his computer, with his headphones on listening to these meetings.
The boss instructed him to take jot notes, but oh no.. that wasn't good enough for our Mike. He was determined to do it right! He refused to help the office out and answer the phone, claiming he couldn't hear it ring with his headphones on (but was able to butt into conversations that interested him around the office with the headphones on). He would type away, and we'd notice him browsing facebook, or notice that the room where the meeting was held was empty. So basically--avoiding work and using any excuse possible.
He then spent 3 days after the meetings preparing his notes. He listened back to the recordings and made notes that actually resemble a movie script.
Ex:
<Bob enters room, sits down>
Jake: Oh, hi Bob, did you enjoy the free lunch?
Bob: Yes, I had a tuna salad sandwich, it was delightful.

During this time, if anyone was having a conversation (work related or not) that he had no interest in joining in on, he would shoot dirty looks at people. Unfortunately, we all work with each other and need to have conversations, but how DARE we interrupt Mike's incredibly important work!
A few days pass, and Mike mentions that he's short on money for Christmas because the bank messed up and took a fair sum out of his account. I almost felt bad until I probed further and found they didn't mess up, he just went into overdraft. This would be the 2nd or 3rd time that he's mentioned to me. GET OVERDRAFT PROTECTION AND STOP TAKING OUT MORE MONEY THAN YOU HAVE!
Shortly after this, I find out he's been bragging about the bonus he's getting for the work he did on the meeting "script."
