Following on directly from the last chapter, the Count invites Albert back to his house for some tea. While there, Albert hears Haydee playing some music. The Count invites Albert to meet her, under two strict conditions - Albert must never tell anyone about the meeting and he cannot ask about his father. Albert agrees. The Count asks Haydee to tell the story of her father's downfall, leaving out the name of the soldier who betrayed him. She is visibly shaken by the end of her story, and Albert sympathizes but remains oblivious as to his father's likely involvement in the affair. The Count consoles Haydee in Greek, telling her that 'there is a god to punish traitors'.

Eventually, Ed stops zapping the plate, and the ship slowly glides to a halt. We all start to stand, gathering our bearings while Ed continues to laugh. Evanna's up before anyone else and charges up to him, yelling.
"What the fuck are you doing!? Are you crazy?"
"Sailin', and yup." Ed keeps grinning as she gets in his face and I get on my feet. "Relax, kiddo. I know what I'm doin'."
She flashes a purple fist in his face. "Say that again?"
"Hey, whoa, hold up." I interrupt, pushing them apart. "Why so angry?"
"This idiot is... this ship..." Evanna sighs. "Look, about ten years ago the Emperor tried having lightning-powered ships like this."
"And?" Ed leans in, still grinning.
"And the ones that didn't instantly sink practically exploded." She sighs. "A few got really quick starts, but then as soon as they hit the open sea they just fell apart under the speed. Anyone that didn't die in an explosion died in the water. Drowned while the rest of us watched from the docks." She glances about, worried. "So... why isn't this ship falling apart?"
Ed's grin grows into a cackle. "I've got somethin' the ol' Emperor don't."
"Oh?" Evanna's eyes narrow. "And what would that be?"
"An ounce of fuckin' self-control!" Ed wheezes, slapping his hand against a railing. "I was there too, ya know. Watched a thousand morons fly off to their deaths 'cause the Emperor was too dumb to tell the mages to actually stop once in a while."
"You... I..." Evanna stops, stunned. "Some of them were my friends!"
"Oh." Ed stops laughing, the grin still plastered across his face. "Well then, I'm sorry, little lady. But your friends were fuckin' idiots." He claps her on the shoulder, then gestures around to the rest of the ship. "Welcome aboard the Titan, my pride 'n' joy, and the only lightnin' ship on the face of the Emperor's green earth."
"That, uh." I glance around at the weathered deck, rickety railings, and sails worn completely to tatters. "That's an... odd name."
"Yeah, you'd think that, wouldn't ya." Ed's eyes keep twinkling as he glances toward the deck. "Here, let me show ya what she's really like." He walks over to a hatch and throws it open, jumping down into the ship's belly. Evanna and I glance at each other, then at the rest of the group, still struggling to get on their feet. Well, everyone except for Nex, who is on her feet and laughing almost as madly as Ed.
"Come on down!" Ed's voice echoes up from below. "'s fine, I promise!"
