A book (fantasy?) about poets who use language as magic

It is a fantasy/thriller that involves a school to train those naturally gifted to use language as a sort of magic. The characters had code names of famous poets or authors. The main character was female. That's all I've got.

Are there any really dark romantic poems/poets in the English language?

I'm looking for something similar to the style of of Schuberts' Lieder, except in English. I absolutely love romantic era poetry and literature as it is, Dickinson, the Shelleys, Thoreau, it's awesome and a hell of an experience to read.

However here I realised that most of the poems I found, even the designated dark romanticism ballads and poems, didn't really feel that grim. Not talking about novels here, but whenever I try to find dark romantic poems online they suggest me stuff like Because I Could Not Stop For Death, The Second Coming, The Darken'd Veil, Go to the grave. Which is great literature, just not what I was looking for, because as much as they talk about death, they all have a type of peacefulness about them, an inner agreement that this is the way it is and there's nothing to do about it. They all talk about death in a more holistic, generalised, philosophical manner.

What I'm looking for is pain, from a single person's point of view. Terror. Dissonance between the will to live and your own dark thoughts hunting you down. The narrator himself being tormented and lured in by death.

I guess The Ocean is one of the closest things I've been able to find, also the wartime poets, Dulce Et Decorum Est. Do you guys know of any poems that are as... personally tormenting as those?

Again, this isn't supposed to be a nitpick or a criticism of anything else! I adore, I worship all the classic romantic poets and authors, I'm just this once looking for something slightly different.
