The technological advancements over centuries are often hard to grasp. Sometimes I like to wonder if a basic tool, such as a kitchen knife would be a good benchmark for it.
If we consider an OK everyday knife, e.g. Ikea https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/ikea-365-3-piece-knife-set-90341170/ worth ~$20, would it roughly compare to an european medieval knife in terms of quality and durability? (except for stainless steel material). How large portion of household's wealth would it be?

hi everyone, i dropped off my favorite shun chefs knife at a local sharpener i hadnt used before and was surprised that it came back sharpened basically past the indentations where aesthetically the edge looks a bit funky right now
was this incorrectly sharpened or am i just not used to seeing what this knife looks like after use/proper sharpening? any tips? thanks!

I (25 f) moved into a new dorm a few weeks ago and met my two new roommates, let's call them Julia and Hannah. Now Julia isn't great when it comes to doing her dished, she has a habit of leaving all her stuff in the sink, sometimes for days and leaving her cutting boards full of leftovers on the counter. We have talked to her several times about how this has given us problems with flies and she promises to be better but never does. She also never bought kitchen knife.
Due to her often running out of clean dishes (and not owning certain items), she has started using our stuff, especially my knives and cutting boards since I have the top drawer and I guess it's easier. The problem I have with this is that she never cleans it either and I have to scrub away her leftovers when I need to use it. I have told her several times that she needs to stop stealing my things. The last time we talked I was a bit snappy with her and she started to cry and told me that she can't afford to buy a good knife due to all her money going towards food and rent. I felt guilty for losing my temper and perhaps naively asked her to at least clean them after she used them.
Last weekend was my birthday so I went on a small road trip with my friends, when I came back on Monday I found all of my things covered in dry chocolate, I think Julia might have baked. This was my boiling point, I angerly scrubbed it off, and then I just put everything in my room, I have since then bought a plastic box. However Julia is furious at me, she texted me and asked me where my things were and when I answered that they would be kept in my room from now on she became furious. She has angerly banged on my door several times while screaming about how I am killing her by letting her starve, she blew up my phone with angry text until I blocked her. Now she is taking Hannah’s stuff and she called me an asshole for creating a hostile living situation and is telling me to apologize, but my things back and deal with it until Christmas break. I am starting to feel really guilty for causing this drama and thinking that I really overreacted. Am I the asshole here?

So my cheap russell hobbs knifes simply arent cutting it (ha!) a couple of them are ok but the ones I use the most are rubbish, I have tried sharpening them with an Anysharp but it doesnt make much difference at all. I am not after something that will shear through a phone book with ease, but just a reliable decent set of knifes, can anyone recommend anything? thanks.
It has no use to it bc it just arouses suspicion and for EVERY animation he does he has to flip it, cut NPC's throat or stab them AND THEN FLIP IT BACK why? This is just stupid

hey guys im making available this amazing utility knife i finished recently out of w2 steel with a beautiful genuine hamon on it.
It has a 140mm blade and 121 grams overall. Its handle is made out purpleheart with 1300 years old stabilized bog oak spacers (certified by radiocarbon dating). Its zero grind, it cuts like a laser.
Edge condition: sharpened to 3000 grit + strop with polishing compound
Both spine and choil are rounded for better comfort.
Never had an owner, finished it in the end of december.
