Hello everyone this is my first post on this subreddit so I don't really know how this will go but my hopes are that this will inspire atleast some questions regarding some topics. Now I will be honest here and say this that the primary reason why I am making a post like this is due to some personal reasons which I don't really want to share so do be aware that this is probably comming from a place of extreme bias, regardless here are some of my reasons of why I don't believe in the theory of Kali Yuga.

Moral reasons: The main reason why I don't really believe in the Kali Yuga is the fact that according to the scriptures that I have read it sort of assumes that all morality at the end of the day is derived from God/religion and that it is due to the fall of religion that mankind looses it's moral character. As I stated before from my personal/biased perspective I think that you don't need to be a devotee or even a person who believes in God in order to be a moral person and that just because someone abandons God/sanatan dharam they are not going to immediately start raping and murdering other people. Because as human beings we all have a inherent instict to not get hurt and a common way of getting hurt by another human being to do something that offends them or hurts them. This is why as studies have shown that from brith we all have a natural inclination to do good, it's an evolutionary advantage to be nice simple put. One last point on this, before anyone counters this by saying that in the Kali Yuga even "religious people" will also commit atrocities, that's fair but my primary assumption behind this point relie on this line from a word of scripture that I read from this very sub. "After my devotees leave the earth the dark age or the Kali age will begin" now I can't really recall where I read this but the criticism is because of this, the scripture says that it ONLY because of true devotees that Kali Yuga hasn't yet kickstarted in full swing. This whole point of mine becomes completely meaningless if the scriptures instead said that after all good and decent people leave the earth will the Kali Yuga begin in full swing since literally anyone can be a good person regardless of their religious beliefs or lack of. This line also assumes that ONLY Hindus are the one people who actually matter in the eyes of God and thus all other people of all other religions are not really that necessary to exist which is like em yikes to say the least.

I've often heard of Buddhist teachers, specifically more traditionally oriented Tibetan Buddhists, that we are living in a Kali Yuga or degenerate age. I was wondering what others in this sub make of this notion of humanity generally being in a 'fallen' spiritual state nowadays, compared to civilizations of the past.
Notions like Kali Yuga or the Dharma Ending Age tend to be dismissed by Western Buddhists, and are thought of as mere religious superstition, but I am beginning to feel that these ancient cosmologies are pointing out something important about the rise and fall of spiritual values in human cultures across time. In my own experience, it is always striking to return to the pace of modern life, after being in a low sensory environment like an extended stay in nature or intensive meditation retreats. I wonder if Buddhist practitioners in ancient times, in a sense, had fewer barriers to understanding the Dharma in all of its depth compared to modern practitioners. Of course, the flip side is that the speed at which information flows in modern times makes access to teachings much easier, even if the depth is more difficult to achieve. Almost seems as if karma itself is functioning much more rapidly, at a level unheard of for the ancient masters of India or Tibet...
Anyways, these are just some late-night ramblings that came to mind. Would love to hear what y'all think about this concept and if you could recommend any texts or resources that delve more deeply into the Hindu/Buddhist cyclical theories of time and human progress.
A discourse by Markandeya in the Mahabharata identifies some of the attributes of Kali Yuga.[32]
In relation to rulers, it lists:
Rulers will become unreasonable: they will levy taxes unfairly.
Rulers will no longer see it as their duty to promote spirituality, or to protect their subjects: they will become a danger to the world.
"At the end of Kali-yuga, when there exist no topics on the subject of God, even at the residences of so-called saints and respectable gentlemen of the three higher varnas (guna or temperament) and when nothing is known of the techniques of sacrifice, even by word, at that time the Lord will appear as the supreme chastiser." (Srimad-Bhagavatam (2.7)
With regard to human relationships, Markandeya's discourse says:
Avarice and wrath will be common. Humans will openly display animosity towards each other. Ignorance of dharma will occur.
Religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, physical strength and memory diminish with each passing day.
People will have thoughts of murder with no justification and will see nothing wrong in that.
Lust will be viewed as socially acceptable and sexual intercourse will be seen as the central requirement of life.
Sin will increase exponentially, while virtue will fade and cease to flourish.
People will become addicted to intoxicating drinks and drugs.
Gurus will no longer be respected and their students will attempt to injure them. Their teachings will be insulted, and followers of Kama will wrest control of the mind from all human beings.
All the human beings will declare themselves as gods or boon given by gods and make it as a business instead of teachings.
People will no longer get married and will live with each other just for sexual pleasure.
Weather and environment will degrade with time and frequent and unpredictable rainfalls will happen.
Earthquakes will be common.
Maximum age of humans will be 20 years by the end of Kali Yuga.
Many fake ideologies will spread throughout the world.
The powerful people will dominate the poor people.
Many diseases will spread.
At the end of Kali Yuga, Vishnu will take birth on earth as Kalki to wipe out the sinners. It is mentioned that Vishnu's Kalki avatar will come to the Earth in a white horse which has wings (here, the destruction caused by the white horse is used as a metaphor for the destruction of darkness in the minds of the human beings).
Sukadeva Gosvami said: Then, O King, religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, duration of life, physical strength and memory will all diminish day by day because of the powerful influence of the age of Kali.
In Kali Yuga, wealth alone will be considered the sign of a man’s good birth, proper behavior and fine qualities. And law and justice will be applied only on the basis of one’s power.
Men and women will live together merely because of superficial attraction, and success in business will depend on deceit. Womanliness and manliness will be judged according to one’s expertise in sex, and a man will be known as a brahmana just by his wearing a thread.
A person’s spiritual position will be ascertained merely according to external symbols, and on that same basis people will change from one spiritual order to the next. A person’s propriety will be seriously questioned if he does not earn a good living. And one who is very clever at juggling words will be considered a learned scholar.
A person will be judged unholy if he does not have money, and hypocrisy will be accepted as virtue. Marriage will be arranged simply by verbal agreement, and a person will think he is fit to appear in public if he has merely taken a bath.
A sacred place will be taken to consist of no more than a reservoir of water located at a distance, and beauty will be thought to depend on one’s hairstyle. Filling the belly will become the goal of life, and one who is audacious will be accepted as truthful. He who can maintain a family will be regarded as an expert man, and the principles of religion will be observed only for the sake of reputation.
As the earth thus becomes crowded with a corrupt population, whoever among any of the social classes shows himself to be the strongest will gain political power.
Losing their wives and properties to such avaricious and merciless rulers, who will behave no better than ordinary thieves, the citizens will flee to the mountains and forests.
Harassed by famine and excessive taxes, people will resort to eating leaves, roots, flesh, wild honey, fruits, flowers, and seeds. Struck by drought, they will become completely ruined.
The citizens will suffer greatly from cold, wind, heat, rain, and snow. They will be further tormented by quarrels, hunger, thirst, disease, and severe anxiety.
These days people only care about money and material, some parent's extreme love for their children lead to destruction of their and their children's lives, people these days are massive hypocrites and being a manipulator and deceiving people is the norm now. We live in a time where religious scriptures are being shunned and called regressive etc. So now what we as devotees can do in this horrible time?
