We are Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, showrunners of THE AMERICANS, premiering tonight on FX. AUA.

Hi everybody. Thank you for joining our first-ever reddit chat. We have no idea what we're doing so please be kind. If you like spies, especially from the no-longer-existent Soviet Union, or if you are married or have ever been married (or might one day want to be married), or know for sure that you never want to be married or wonder about it, we think you might really enjoy our show. The Americans is about 2 KGB spies living under deep cover in the Washington DC suburbs in 1982, and it premieres tonight at 10 PM on FX.

Ask us any non-classified questions.

https://twitter.com/joel_fields/status/438828922910695424

Thank you so much for participating in our first-ever Reddit AMA! We are still not exactly sure what happened -- but we think we enjoyed it! We now challenge you to spread the word between now and 10pm. If our ratings jump significantly over last season, we'll do another Reddit chat soon.

[Discussion] Slate's Americans Podcast S:6 E:1 Dead Hand with Joe Weisberg, Joel Fields, Katie Irish and Chris Long

I don't know if anyone has ever posted a discussion link to the Slate podcast before but I absolutely love it and think June Thomas does excellent work getting really interesting insights out of a variety of interesting guests. I thought maybe we could make this a weekly thing if there's enough interest. It's a must listen for me after each episode, especially when Rhys, Russell or Noah Emmerich are on (or Ronin or Wright or...y'know what? Everyone.)

It's always interesting to hear from the costume designer on details that I otherwise never would have thought about and obviously the J's going in depth into the process of choosing 1987 amongst other things. What did you guys think?

Anyone going to any of The Americans events next week as part of the Split Screen Festival in NYC? Live finale watch + debrief with Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields

There's a number of different TV-related events, and two focused on The Americans. One is on Wednesday night and is a live screening of The Americans finale followed by commentary and audience discussion with some TV critics (including my fav Matt Zoller Seitz). The other is next Friday and is a debrief of the series with the show's creators Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields. Tickets are $15 each or you could attend both events for $20.

I'll be at the finale event but will be out of town for the Friday event. Should be a fun time, I went to one of their events last year and it was super cool!

Questions Answers
1) There were several significant historical moments that were present during the first season (e.g. the Reagan assassination attempt). Do you have any more of these planned for Season 2 and beyond? Anything you'd particularly like to explore from Philip and Elizabeth's point of view? 1) The new season will deal with the war in Afghanistan (the Soviet-era war, not the present-day American one), Nicaragua, and stealth technology -- not to mention Intellivision.
2) Can we expect more Margo Martindale? She's awesome. 2) Margo will be back, and she is as awesome as ever. Her work in comedy has not dulled her dramatic genius.
3) Will we continue to see more of Philip and Elizabeth's lives before they moved to America? Or perhaps in their early days, when the children were younger? 3) There will be more flashbacks, and more backstory for the characters.
Such a huge fan of the show, and am so excited for season 2, especially since all the early reviews have been so glowing…My question is, how much backstory do you work out for yourselves before you plot out the stories? For instance, do you find it's important to know things like where Nina comes from, or how Philip was recruited, or does that character history only come up if it's pertinent to the current story? We plot out some, but a lot of it unfolds as we create the scene work and the story arcs. Sometimes, we have a very specific backstory in mind, but then in a specific episode we actually change the backstory if we can to accommodate something that's happening.
1) How do you guys pick the great music for your show? 3) Have there been any historical inaccuracies that have slipped into The Americans, and do they bother you? We have an astonishing

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Just because it's a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB

Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"

I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes

r/unclejokes for dirty jokes

r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC

r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes

Punchline !

Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
