A list of puns related to "Jinnah"
You are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in this state of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed, that has nothing to do with the business of State. What do you think did Jinnah want an Islamic republic? I am just asking what do you guys think?
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and Mohammed Ali Jinnah were Islamic modernists who served as the first presidents of turkey and Pakistan respectively. Jinnah took his opinions on secular democracy from the united states and to prove it, the first signature on the Pakistani constitution is that of a non-muslim. However, Ataturk took his secularism from France and it shows with his statements of freedom from religion. So what do you guys think of them?
For some years now, Quaid-e-Azam’s vision of Pakistan has been a source of controversy and conflict. The people who advocate for a secular Pakistan point out to his speech in the constituent assembly on 11th August 1947 when he said:
“You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place or worship in this state of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed – that has nothing to do with the business of the state”
However, most people do not discuss what he said before and after those words. He was pointing out to the religious freedom of minorities, which were suppressed by the British in the subcontinent and gave the analogy of the sectarian fights between Catholics and the Protestants in Europe. Before the words mentioned above, he said:
“Indeed if you ask me, this has been the biggest hindrance in the way of India to attain the freedom and independence, and but for this we would have been free people long long ago. No power can hold another nation, and specially a nation of 400 million souls, in subjection; nobody could have continued its hold on you for any length of time.”
He also said:
“As you know, history shows that in England conditions, some time ago, were much worse than those prevailing in India today. The Roman Catholics and the Protestants persecuted each other. Even now, there are some states in existence where there are discriminations made and bars imposed against a particular class. Thank God, we are not starting in those days. We are starting in the days where there is no discrimination, no distinction between one community and another, no discrimination between one caste or creed and another. We are starting with this fundamental principle: that we are all citizens, equal citizens of one state”
Every Islamic state is liberal in the sense of protecting the rights of its minorities and is conscious of its religious practices.
He is simply pointing out that Pakistan will be a state that will respect minorities and their religious freedom. Never does he say that Pakistan will be a Secular State with Western Values. Whereas there are numerous speeches of his available where he points out that Pakistan will be an Islamic State.
He said in a broadcast talk to the people of USA in Karachi, 26th February 1948 (YES AFTER PARTITION):
*“The constitution of Pakistan has yet to be framed by the Pakistan Constituent Assembly. I do not know what the ultimate shape if
