James Redfield Puns

A librarian gave a copy to me in high school but I stopped reading halfway through because I couldn’t tell if this book was about real spirituality or if it was just a novel. It’s listed under religious fiction and I can’t really find much on the manuscript he writes about other than this book (although I didn’t do much other than a quick Google search.) I also didn’t want to read it just in case this book was true because I felt like it was holding my hand too much through the journey and I figured if I wanted to I would rather experience what he writes about in my own life than read and spoil it for myself, if that makes sense. I’m reading it again now but I wanted to know what people here think about it? Also does anyone have any additional info/sources on the manuscript? The book so far is resonating with me a lot more than when i initially read it.

Almost done with this book and I definitely recommend it! It was very popular a few decades ago, I heard about it from my Mom. A fictional storyline/characters containing some universal truths/lessons called 'Insights' that they discover as part of this lost manuscript. At first I thought the writing and storyline to be a little cheesy (and part of that was surely the old 'book-on-tape' style of randomly including a soundtrack during pivotal scenes--but don't worry this happens rarely if you're listening to it). But as I've progressively read it I've been reminded of how important STORY is to every single human culture, how it allows us a deeper and more memorable understanding of the subject matter (see: every religious text ever written), and so I can appreciate the story for that purpose.

The author unveils these 'Insights' in such a way that I've had an epiphany of sorts on the way I and those in my life have behaved, and have already begun letting go of a lot of my anxiety around it. The 'insights' themselves involve nature, our world, humans, our souls, and how we can all live more peacefully and contentedly together with a sense of meaning simply by evolving the way we think. It is very inclusive /doesn't try to control your beliefs (it is, after all, a fictional story so take what works and leave what doesn't!) I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

I know the reason Fortnite is not included is due to the fact that its events have limited access... but what would happen to characters if we did include it? What if we took every limited time appearance and included it as a link to the game? I did a little bit of digging to see what I could find, and it would drag a LOT of characters' Ryu Numbers down, and even include a few new characters who didn't have Ryu Numbers before! It also gave me a chance to go through various characters and double check what their Ryu Numbers currently are. That way, I could also find out the magnitude by which their Ryu Number would change if we included Fortnite. Here's some of what I found:

For starters, Ryu himself appears during Fortnite Season 15, which means any characters appearing in Fortnite (including Jonesy) would have Ryu Numbers of 1.

Characters whose Ryu Numbers would not change (as they are already 1):

• Street Fighter characters: Chun-Li, Cammy, and Guile, who I feel are self-explanatory.
• Marvel characters: Thanos, Captain America, Spider-Man, Venom, Deadpool, Galactus, Taskmaster, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Gamora. They all appear with Ryu in some iteration of the Marvel vs. Capcom series.
• Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, who appear with Ryu in Project X Zone.
• Lara Croft, as Ryu has recently been included in Brawlhalla with her.
• Daryl Dixon, Rick Grimes, and Michonne from The Walking Dead, who also appear in Brawlhalla with Ryu.
• Frankenstein's Monster, who appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
• Aloy from Monster Hunter, as previously calculated.

Characters whose Ryu Numbers would decrease to 1 (ordered by magnitude):

• Marvel characters (from 2) Ant-Man, Carnage, Loki, and Nick Fury, since they (surprisingly) do not appear in any Marvel vs. Capcom games. Otherwise, they can be linked through either the LEGO Marvel games, Disney Infinity, or both.
• The Demogorgon (from 2), which otherwise appears in Dead by Daylight.
• DC characters (from 2) Batman, Harley Quinn, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, The Flash, Aquaman, Catwoman, Black Manta, Beast Boy, and Raven. All of which are previously linked to Ryu through the Ninja Turtles in Injustice 2, Sonic in LEGO Dimensions, or both.
• Kratos (from 2), who could previously be linked through Minecraft, PlayStation All-Stars, or Shovel Knight.
• Master Chief (from 2), who was previously linked
