I have read and followed Kenneth Waltz and John Mearsheimer, Now I think I have understood some talking point and logic of their view. Especially enjoy reading ' Tragedy of Great Power Politics ' and ' The Great Delusion '

My in laws are in town and my Father in law asked if I could make some ribeyes for them. Of course I said sure thing! This morning as I am getting the steaks ready with some salt and pepper, my mother in law waltzes into the kitchen and explains that she wants hers cooked well done. I laughed and played it off thinking she was joking… she wasn’t… so now I’m am seeing if there are any lawyers in this sub who can help me divorce just my mother in law. All in all it was a great dinner surrounded by great conversation and that’s all that matters

I looked over some players within the MLS who could fill in the roles of the diamond and came up with these 4 as my favorites, currently we only have 3 midfielders on our roster: Harris Medunjanin, Yuya Kubo, and Allan Cruz. In addition i typed up some words on each of the player’s i suggested.

4. CAM/LCM/RCM- Paxton Pomykal (FC Dallas)

I tried to take into account player flexibility and found that these players could play in a variety of positions and formations. In addition, focusing on players with years and minutes of experience as well as with contracts ending soon not being linked with European moves. 1 and 3 have had european experience and are competing for spots on their current squad, 2 has huge upside and needs a spotlight, and 4 could be looking to build off from previous seasons and to do it in a new environment with a team that could use him and provide him that platform to get back to basics.

Thoughts? Or, who else do you think is realistic and would like to see?

1. RCM- Emerson Hyndman (Atlanta United): At Atlanta United he filled a very specific role in the midfield that helped their defense and gave goal scoring opportunities. That role was cleaning up the messes from the likes of Barco, Pity, and Josef (or in 2020 Jahn). There are however some practical limitations to this.

While all these factors play a role, they ultimately boil down to how nations can leverage physical authority in the geopolitical arena. Practically Speaking this is done primarily as a function of two things: Military Strength and Economic Power

At its core, all 5 criteria listed above practically resolve themselves into these two (From the role of Resources in the economy to the Population Fit for service)

On the surface, it appears the idea is sound but the balancing is just off, but rather I feel it is more than that actually.

I think its entire approach to power ranking is indeed fundamentally flawed as it takes little to account for many factors that do indeed determine the power of a geopolitical entity.

I think Power Rankings should be determined by the two traditional Geopolitical Metrics, Mostly a mixture of Economic Strength (Domestic + Weighted Subjects) and Military Power (Domestic + Weighted Subjets): Both Army and Navy with Navy giving extra Points and Prestige (more on that in a bit)

So I settled in an area where our civilization was at war with the elves. Overall this wasn't a huge issue. They never attempted to trade with us, and we mostly had internal issues and little mishaps. Honestly, I thought the were-giraffe infection would claim the fortress.

We had a were-giraffe appear after the city walls were set up. I don't know how it got in, because it went from the edge of the map, on a small hill, to the middle of my manufacturing area instantly, as it jumped across the small gap between the hill and my 1-Z wall. I couldn't find anything in the combat logs with it climbing.

I had no choice to send the military in, and they made short work of it. While I was sorting out which dwarves the were-giraffe had left alive so I could quarantine them, the head of my military turned into a were-giraffe. This happened two more times before everything was settled, and I had lost over half the fort.

And to top everything off, the KILL order for the final dwarf overlapped with him turning back into a dwarf, so the town decided to hate each other. It was not a full-on loyalty cascade, but there were a few deaths. I ultimately solved the problem by locking everyone in a small room. Turns out by that point everyone just hated a single dwarven child. They were quickly taken care of after starting a fight in lockup.

Then... peace. We had a ton of migrants "brave the evil" on their way to the fort. We did a few skirmishes against nearby elves, and they captured about five of the dwarves. Since rescuing seems bugged (the squads would leave only to immediately return, a known issue), we just harassed them some more.

The final straw for the elves was when we stole a pillow. Yes, a lowly pillow. This angered them they sent an entire ambush of around 60 elves, including a few ghouls. They burst into the fort before the bridges could be raised and took a position in the area with the lever. No one would pull it. The rest of the elves waltzed right in.

Then I learned I had a necromancer. He raised a few bodies to no avail. Our military of two squads was not enough to hold off the elves. Eventually, they left, leaving the ghouls to chase a small dwarven child. He was eventually caught on the shore of the ocean, and the fort was officially empty.

So in the end, a fortress of about 80 dwarves was decimated by the elves. I am currently trying to reclaim it, but due to another bug where oceans cause non-water tiles to flood during reclaim, I am not sure how

Here's how Salem can take over a Kingdom; let's use Atlas as an example. No need for a Grimm army - just walk in there herself and find a nice spot to live in.

Just her waltzing into a Kingdom puts the entire place into high alert, and killing/stopping her takes utmost priority. Every time the Atlas military kills her, she just regenerates and goes about her day, buying groceries, sipping tea, no need to go for the Relic yet. Why should she? Might as well enjoy her stay.

Every place she walks to becomes a giant hazard zone, disrupting traffic, trade, civilian life and infrastructure for miles around just by standing there. If they keep blowing her up or deploying troops there, they cause massive internal damage to the city trying to kill her multiple times.

The entire military budget gets drained and reallocated trying to find ways to kill her. She can fuck with them by walking closer to the Vault location, make them carpet bomb the whole neighborhood out of panic, then just walk back and resume her day. All the resources used to destroy her are slowly bleeding the Kingdom dry of its budget for other areas like border defenses and Huntsman programs, chipping away at their resolve and options to fight her with.

Continual economic drain, bombings and military operations in the city, along with her sheer presence there causes massive unrest and panic among civilians, which just naturally draw Grimm to the city every day. She can even convert the populace to her ideology by exploiting their despair, or turn them against their government en masse.

Salem can do so with a huge, rallying speech, or if she's feeling pretty lazy, just talk to people she passes by as she goes about her day, because every word that comes out of her mouth is being recorded and broadcasted in great detail due to the massive media attention she draws around her. Clearly the Kingdoms cannot defend their people from her, but she can treat them with mercy. She has done nothing to directly harm the people, after all - it's the governments that constantly come after her and endanger civilians in their overblown witch hunt.

The only real work she has to do is make a few Hounds or recruit the local populace to find or bring the Maiden to her. There would be massive nationwide manhunts for the Maiden in order to appease Salem and every possible ally the Maiden has are considering betraying her to Salem with every passing day, so even making Hounds seems superfluous at this point.

Shostakovich’s symphony number 5 is by far his most popular symphony (competing with his second waltz and the second movement of his second piano concerto as his most popular piece period). I was composed in the summer of 1937 after his official denouncement but the Soviet government. It is one of the greatest factors in his political rehabilitation, and many think saved his life. As we all know Shostakovich did not stop writing symphonies after the 5th. He also didn’t stop having run-ins with the Soviet government.

In 1944 Shostakovich wrote his tragically emotional 8th symphony. The Soviet government was… less than pleased with this symphony. Especially after his heroic 7th (written at the Soviet Union's lowest point during the war), what was the thoroughly gloomy 8th supposed to be saying while the tide of war changed for the Soviet Union?

As I have listened, I have been unable to help myself from noting several glaringly obvious similarities between Shostakovich’s 5th and 8th symphonies.

The first (and most obvious) similarity is in the very first few bars. They both start with powerful boomings from the cellos and contrabasses. Soon after they are joined by violins and violas. The opening of the 5th is marked “F”, the opening of the 8th “FF”, to be played even louder. Both are powerful but thoroughly depressing. Both introduce motifs used throughout much of the rest of the first movement. Both recede away to allow a snowy introduction of the 1st theme.

The second similarity is in the very nature of the second subject. Both are melodies played by first violins over chords in the other strings. The 5th fills a very simple short short long pattern while the 8th has an off-kilter 5/4 pattern.

Both symphonies feature marches in their development. The 8th is a sharp and despairing funeral March with a 3 note pattern (barriers from the second subject) first stated by dissonant brass and then taken up by a snare drum. The rest of the orchestra plays the 1st theme. The 5th’s is sarcastic and brash, with the same short short long rhythm from the second subject, propelling the music forward while the trumpets blare out the 1st theme. Both feature the 1st theme.

Both symphonies climax with material introduced at the start of the movement, although in different ways. The 8th is made of full orchestra chords with the theme played by trumpets over roaring percussion. The 5th is a frantic statement by strings and woodwinds occasionally punctuated by brass and
